So much animosity and complaining here.

I thought last night's bout was simply a terrific contest, no matter who you were rooting for.

Both Quigg and Valdez dug down as deep over 12 rounds as you're ever likely to see with two fighters.

Lesser fighters---and that would include quite a few---would have quit in the face of the adversity each encountered.

Busted nose. Fractured jaw. Half severed tongue. Blood dripping everywhere. Absolute exhaustion.

So how can anyone question the resolve, resiliency and refuse-to-lose mentality displayed in that ring last night?

Sure Quigg came in overweight, and for that, he does deserve condemnation.

But with nothing to gain, he fought his heart out and displayed the moxie few modern boxers care to develop.

And Valdez, with his superior movement and quickness, probably could have played it safe and boxed his way to a comfortable, dull decision.

Instead the battered champion went toe to toe with the much bigger, strong Quigg and yet came away with a deserved, gut-check decision.

Is there anyone out there who wouldn't want to see both Valdez and Quigg in the ring again, after last night's war?

It was FOTY worthy and yet too many prefer to nitpick instead about the deficiencies of each boxer.

Ingle is the obvious answer, but wouldn't go anywhere near the likes of Quigg as his style is the polar opposite .

I have always liked the lad , but at top level he ain't going to cut the mustard .

Learnt nothing stateside and can't help think Tesco was doing a better job .

Maybe McGuigan would be a good choice of trainer for him, particularly now he doesn't work with Frampton. He'd be able to work with Quigg's style and might help him get a bit better.
