Mikey Garcia vs. Danny Garcia (WW, 2018) ?

Post by ValMar »

If Mikey decide to move up and face Danny, what kind of outcome do you expect ?
I know that possibility for this fight is pretty slim, but, I hope......
It might be very, very interesting............
What do you think ?

I really think Garcia would take him out in mid to late rounds. Once Mikey gets used to additional weight, he'll find his power.

I hope Mikey takes it slow going bigger than LWW. He definitely looked out of his comfort zone size wise. Maybe after a year or two he can tangle with the Welters. Buy I think the best fights for him from a financial and professional standpoint are at LW.

But it would be a great matchup!

HOrrific stylistic matchup for Danny. Mikey takes it wide. Danny needs openings to succeed, and Mikey won't give him any.

I don't think he's looked bad. The whole time I was holding my breath because Mikey was put on his ass by Martinez and Burgos, but Mikey proved his chin is strong at 140.

Also, no. No one currently at LW is a draw. There are strong fighters coming up: Prograis, Taylor, Ramirez, etc., but no one will give Mikey any recognition. Only big fights for him: Linares, Lomachenko, and everyone at 147 lbs.

I think he runs into a lot of problems when he tries for 147. Regardless of talent eventually the size differential is too much to overcome, and frankly as good as Garcia is he's not some unbeatable talent even in his own weight class IMO, let alone when he's going to be the smaller man against a pretty deep field of competition.

Who do you think beats him at 140 lbs.? Only one I think that has a chance is Ramirez. Prograis is too defensively lax. He gets hit square a lot, and Mikey still has power at 140.

At the moment, at 147 lbs., only ones I can see beat him are Spence, Crawford, and Porter (from a stylistic point of view). I don't think Thurman or Garcia beat Mikey.

Prograis would definitely be a live opponent for Mikey Garcia at this point, and he's still improving with each fight so I wouldn't confidently pick Garcia to beat him...that being said I wouldn't confidently pick Prograis either. That'd be a real interesting matchup.

I don't see anyone else at 140 beating Mikey, and frankly I think fights between him and Linares or him and Lomachenko at 135 would be more interesting than any possible fight at 140 for him other than Prograis.

Prograis is a good fighter, but I think he's made for Mikey. He's not very fast on his feet, and he gets hit a lot coming forward. He's shown a great chin so far, but he's never faced anyone with the power of Mikey.

As I said, Ramirez is enormous, hits hard, and he's a very skilled fighter. I think people are sleeping on him at 140. I think he's going to dominate Imam as his coming out party.

I'm not confident in Prograis getting past Lipinets if they ever fight. I see great things from Lipinets. I think he is next consistent champ at 140 depending on what Mikey does.

Prograis won't land it. He's not an awkward, athletic guy like Lipinets. It's all about styles here. Mikey eats up come forward plodders like Prograis, but if you talk about power, anyone has a puncher's chance. Also, Mikey's win over Lipinets is better than anything Prograis has done at the moment.
