Mikey Garcia: In a Couple of Fights - You Will See Me at 147!
https://www.BS.com/mikey-garci ... 47--126112
With the victory, Garcia (38-0, 30 KOs) joined Manny Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez as the only fighters in history to win titles at 126, 130, 135 and 140 pounds.
"It's a great feeling. Winning this fourth title in a fourth division is an honor," Garcia said. "To get to be mentioned with Manny Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez is a huge honor for me. It just leaves a little chapter in boxing with my name, my brother, my dad. I think people will remember the Garcia family for ages to come."
After the fight, Garcia, who still holds the WBC title at lightweight, reiterated his mantra that he's seeking the biggest fights available, regardless of weight division.
"What I love is I have all the options," Garcia said. "I could go down to 135 to unify titles, which is what I really want to do. And in a couple of fights you're going to see me at 147."

imo 147s over stretching himself, at least if hes going to fight the best and not just cherry pick a 5th division belt

I don't think he would have much of a problem as long as they have a proper strength and conditioning coach. I mean he did floor a bigger guy who was a champion who had never tasted the canvas before at 140. His power might not be as prevalent at 147. But his fundamentals are still intact and the speed should still be there. But, we'll see.

Top welters would kill Mikey. His brother won't allow that.

Yeah he can't live with Spence or Crawford
Re: Mikey Garcia: In a Couple of Fights - You Will See Me at 147!
I hope he fights Loma before moving up, but doubt it. I don't think he wants that fight g or some reason.
Re: Mikey Garcia: In a Couple of Fights - You Will See Me at 147!
Garcia is the kind of generational fighter that I can't say can't do something. I went through that with Sugar Ray Leonard, thinking he'd lose this fight or that fight, and he ended up, well...Sugar Ray Leonard.
Re: Mikey Garcia: In a Couple of Fights - You Will See Me at 147!
Oh...and please, I'm not saying Garcia is in that class (yet), but he is still fighting and he is already a great fighter.

Supposedly, they wanted him to sign off his soul like he did Top Rank to get the fight, same with the Cotto fight. Mikey gets his business tactics from Andre Ward it seems.boxing_rocks wrote: ↑11 Mar 2018, 14:45Any idea why he also quit negotiations with GB regarding Linares fight?
Speaking of which, I wouldn't bet on anyone beating Mikey. Mikey also needs to get with a good S&C coach. He looked chubby and supposedly weighed 147 lbs. on fight night. Dude was looking great under Ariza. Very strong and powerful.
Ridiculous that Lipinets seemed like a joke to "fans" while Indongo was somehow a legit threat. Funny that the same people talk about belts like they mean nothing yet were awed over Indongo having 2.
Re: Mikey Garcia: In a Couple of Fights - You Will See Me at 147!
I agree...Lipinets is no joke and I'd be interested to see him in the future. Indongo looked like a shot fighter. And yes...I thought Mikey looked physically 'soft.'Mexi-Box wrote: ↑11 Mar 2018, 15:04Supposedly, they wanted him to sign off his soul like he did Top Rank to get the fight, same with the Cotto fight. Re: Mikey Garcia: In a Couple of Fights - You Will See Me at 147!
Mikey is flat out better than Leonard... His jab, straight right combo is the best ever... His defense is tighter than Ray's... Sugar Ray got hit with storms of punches by Duran and Norris in 2 of his worst losses... Mikey already has more wins than Leonard ever had - and he has ZERO losses... All of Mikey's 4-Divisional World Titles are legit... Only 3 of Leonard's were.
You'll say Leonard fought better comp, but that's crazy... Duran was a notorious quitter.... Tommy Hearns got knocked FLAT by massive underdogs... Hagler got hit with voluminous avoidable shots by wild swinger Mugabi until he was growing a double head.. Those guys couldn't defend, and certainly weren't the slickest masters of that era.
Leonard ducked the brilliantly skilled Michael Nunn, Mike McCallum and other top middleweights. He abandoned the belt.. Mikey talks like he may walk into the lion's den with Vasyl Lomachenko, Errol Spence, and Terence Crawford... Scary!!!
If Mikey beats Lomachenko and the current undefeated crop at 147 he'll go down as the greatest fighter ever... Let's see what happens in the next 4 years... It would be extremely interesting if he achieves anything like that.

Is that why Lipinets was winning rounds?Kalan wrote: ↑11 Mar 2018, 17:23Mikey is flat out better than Leonard... His jab, straight right combo is the best ever... His defense is tighter than Ray's... I've been there mate. You know when you've drank a little bit too much and the day after, you wish your phone had a breathalyser... when you said something so incredibly absurd that you can't take it back.Kalan wrote: ↑11 Mar 2018, 17:23Mikey is flat out better than Leonard... You're a good guy and I won't bother even trying to explain the bizarre claims you've just articulated, because I suspect you already know.
Re: Mikey Garcia: In a Couple of Fights - You Will See Me at 147!
i dunno, he did floor lipinets but imo clearly hasnt been doing the same damage at 140, and i also thought he lost maybe as many as 4 rounds last night. lipinets isnt really that big for 140 and i think even at 140 theres several guys better then him. lipinets has never looked good to meImpractical Poster wrote: ↑11 Mar 2018, 10:29 I don't think he would have much of a problem as long as they have a proper strength and conditioning coach. imo mikey is going to greatly drop in effectivenss if he goes to 147, think even at 140 hes already past his most effective

I was going to quit reading after your first statement, but hell, your posts are so far-out and delusional, I thought I needed a good laugh.Kalan wrote: ↑11 Mar 2018, 17:23

Mikey is a good, solid, technical fighter, but come on man....
IF Mikey beats Lomanchenko? I once picked him to win that fight, and somewhat easily, but I honestly don't think he will have the balls to fight him. Maybe I am wrong. When the thought of fighting Loma makes him make stupid statements of taking on Spence, something is wrong.

I give this post 0 out of 10 and that’s being generous.Kalan wrote: ↑11 Mar 2018, 17:23Mikey is flat out better than Leonard... His jab, straight right combo is the best ever... Re: Mikey Garcia: In a Couple of Fights - You Will See Me at 147!
What I saw last night ...
Garcia is a good technical boxer, Lipinets was game and took a lot of good shots.
Can't say I'm 100% sure Mikey can take it at 147, he can box has an ok defence but can he take that kind of power timing and skill I ask myself.
Yeah he's slick but Lipinets took he his shots, Sergey got rattled floored but was there at the end.
Garcia came out of it looking convincing to a certain degree, but knowing what his future plans maybe throws a spanner in the works, can't say I'm sold on it.
Lipinets is hard he can take it, his skill level was good with hooks straights and body shots he had something going on, volume timing and accuracy won the day for Garcia but it wasn't a walk in the park.

Re: Mikey Garcia: In a Couple of Fights - You Will See Me at 147!
We may be overlooking just how good Lipinetes is. He may very well be the next dominte 140 pounder when Garcia leaves. He looked very solid, and gave Mikey more problems than I have seen anyone do. I don't really thing size had much to do with it. Lipinette was fast, powerful, moved well, put his punches together well, and has a great chin. I'd pick him over Broner easily.
Re: Mikey Garcia: In a Couple of Fights - You Will See Me at 147!
lipinets hadnt impressed me at all before that, maybe hes improved though, he only had just over 10 fights and i think was a kickboxer rather then amateur boxer before going pro, so youd think a guy like that could get better with extra seasoning
Re: Mikey Garcia: In a Couple of Fights - You Will See Me at 147!
As some are saying...lipinets goes up in stature in my opinion. Fought very well. Mikey though, he should stay at 135 or 140.
Re: Mikey Garcia: In a Couple of Fights - You Will See Me at 147!
Lipinets did impress me as well; although, I think he didn't get enough respect from the start. I think he only won 1 round, and I think anyone who says he won more than 2 rounds were listening to the Showtime commentary too closely. Showtime was extremely generous to Lipinets anytime he landed a single punch.
Honestly, Lipinets is the kind of fighter that I think would go on to accomplish something post-Mikey fight. This is a lot different from looking at guys like Indongo and Postol that Crawford gets so much respect for beating.
Lipinets followed his gameplan well and never lost heart. He's the kind of guy anyone would look bad trying to fight. Athletic, strong, and he can take a walloping. He was also a touted prospect at one point. I heavily favored him over Indongo from the start too.

Re: Mikey Garcia: In a Couple of Fights - You Will See Me at 147!
i can easily see 3 or 4 to lipinets like the judges had, you just dont want to have mikey losing that many rounds and of course you then talk up lipinets
i think there coukd be several guys better then him

Re: Mikey Garcia: In a Couple of Fights - You Will See Me at 147!
I'm SURE that Mikey Garcia has his eyes on Horn's belt. You know how Mikey Garcia gets when he see's a weak belt holder in a division....he has to fight them. None of the legitimate, worthy champions though....only the guys that you've never heard of and never will hear of.
Mikey Garcia is a 4 division champion while never fighting the top boxer in any of the 4 weight classes. What does that tell you? You can try to mention this kid with Manny and JMM but those guys actually fought the top fighters in their weight classes. Mikey, you aren't even close to them or doing that.

He's never won a vacant title.. Manny did. To become an 8 division champion, he fought a welterweight who had just moved up to light middleweight a year prior. Not sure bout JMM.caldo2025 wrote: ↑13 Mar 2018, 07:32 I'm SURE that Mikey Garcia has his eyes on Horn's belt. Salido, Martinez and Zlaticanin are/were ranked highly in their respective divisions at the time Garcia fought them.
To be fair, Lipinets was the ONLY beltholder at the time the fight was announced. WBC was vacant, WBO was vacant. WBA was also vacant until 3 days ago.
