Gilberto Ramirez Wants Big Fights, Unifications Before 175 Move

Gilberto "Zurdo" Ramirez's trainer Hector Zapari stated,

"I am happy for Uzcategui. I am happy that another Latino is making noise, winning an interim title at 168 pounds. I hope he continues representing Latinos in this division but he is getting a little ahead of himself if he thinks he can beat everyone at 168 because he isn't the best fighter in the division. Dirrell isn't the same fighter he used to be with the inactivity he has had in recent years."

"It would be nice if Bolivita can win the full IBF title and then unify with Zurdo because Zurdo will make him look like an amateur and make him disappear."

"We want the biggest fights possible now because we don't have a whole lot of time at 168 pounds. We have at most 2 years left in this division and we don't want to lose any more time. We want unification fights and if we can't get those fights then we will look at 175 pounds because Zurdo deserves the big fights and want to see him fight with Benavidez, Bolivita, and the WBSS tournament winner. It is time for Bob Arum to make it happen. We are doing our part and now our promoter needs to do his part to bring Zurdo to the level he deserves."

Yeh, Arum needs to do something here. Ramirez has been a poor champion truthfully. His fight vs. Hart was a good scrap.. But he's kinda been inactive.

Arum's got contacts. He's got a good relationship with other promoters. Make it happen.

Would suck for WSB because the winner of that would be the consensus #1 in the division.

the ring, boxing news, transnational rankings, and boxrec all have george groves #1. and most have smith above uzcategu and benavidez. if he beats smith that's every bit as credible as beating a guy benavidez. benvadizs best wins are porky and gavril and he needed a second try not to get put on his ass vs gavril, a guy who couldnt even beat elvin ayala

and if smith wins hell get a win over a guy many recognize as number 1

so your claim is bogus. just look around to see that the consensus doesnt = what mexi box thinks

the ring: groves #1, ramirez #2, smith #3, benavidez #5, uzcategui #6
boxrec: groves #1, ramirez #2, smith #4, uzcategui #5, benavidez #10
premier boxing organization (pbo): groves#1, ramirez #2, smith #3, uzcategui #10, benavidez #14
boxing news: groves #1, ramirez #2, uzcategui #5, smith #7, benavidez #9
transnational: groves #1, ramirez #2, benavidez #6, uzcategui #7, smith #9

so ya, you might want to learn what consensus actually means kid

I'd agree. If that's the way it goes down, I'd have the Groves/Smith winner at #1, and a Ramirez/Benavidez/Uzcategui winner at #2.

The only way that changes is e.g. Groves scrapes a razor thin SD over Smith, and Ramirez smashes Benavidez/Uzcategui to bits - or similar.

Even then, it's close, due to Groves' superior body of work compared to any of the American based trio.

ya i mean i just dont see how it would suck for the wsb. because the groves-smith winner would seem to clearly, based on most rankings, get the top spot. they could still say the wsb is making the division #1

Fake news. If he really wanted big fights he would have answered sauerlands call and entered the super series

Arum is like Wârren.. Keeps his fighters close to him.. hardly let them out of his sight.. In-house fights. Like they're their own org. Might as well be.

There was nothing stopping Zurdo from entering. he could have gotten some recognition in the UK too..

Smith in no way is above Uzcategui. Wrong on all notes from the start right there. Smith's best win is probably Skoglund. Other than that, his resume is garbage. Uzcategui's win over Dirrell craps all over Smith's entire resume.

The current version of Dirrell isn't anything special really. He might even lose to the Skoglund that Smith beat. Plus, Smith never lost to a bang average middleweight like Uzcategui did...

Top Rank should be going after the WBSS winner or Benavidez.

IBF belt should be tied for the next two fights because of the Truax-Degale rematch, and then the winner has to face Uzcategui as the next mandatory.

Korobov was a lot better than the domestic level guys Smith was feeding on.

Korobov was winning every round against Lee before he got KO'd. If they immediately rematched, I'd easily pick Korobov to beat Lee. Korobov has had a bad career due to mismanagement, but it doesn't mean anything about his skills. Guy beat Uzcategui and Edwards, both of which aged well.

Also, Korobov got ducked. People forget to mention that Quillin and Andrade both ducked him.

it was only a matter of time before lee got him. korobov was really never that good. john jackson was doing better vs lee before getting kod then korobov was.

Well, Lee would've lost had he not landed it. Anyways, it seems Quillin and Andrade disagreed with you since they shamelessly ducked him.

What?

Also, yes, Lee was clearly losing that fight up until the KO.

Korobov's career was so short that it doesn't really say much about him. Imagine if Linares had management issues after the Demarco fight. We've seen fighters come back stronger from losses.

Korobov is more of a what could've been story, but if you want to judge his entire career based off that, it's fine. Guy beat Edwards and Uzcategui which isn't anything to scoff at considering what they did afterwards.
