Sadam Ali vs. Liam Smith - May 12, 2018

Post by Ruthless-RKO »

Liam Smith (26-1-1, 14 KOs) looks set to travel for his next fight after his promoter revealed that terms have been agreed.

It is understood Golden Boy are looking to host the fight on May 12 at the Turning Stone Resort & Casino in Verona, New York, with allegedly expected to pick up the UK TV rights to the fight and HBO set to screen it in the States.

The contest will have a lot of eyeballs in the United States, as it will paired on HBO with the pay-per-view replay of the rematch with Canelo Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin, which takes place one week earlier from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. Smith's only career defeat was to Canelo.

I actually believe Ali can win this. Not just going off his Cotto win, but genuine.

Somehow Smith has become mandatory for the WBO. Funny ge doesn't for the other orgs.

It's all Fränk's doing.

Up to this point.. who us Smith's best win? He'a not beaten anyone..

Williams is his best win and he scraped them fights. Williams was untested as well. I just can't stick any of the Smiths at all.

I don't mind Callum. He's seems the quiet Smith. Has worked hard and actually beaten some good domestic/regional level fighters.

The other 3, not too fond off. The whole autism awareness is solid though.

I was surprised given Ali's lack of knockouts that he managed to buzz Cotto regularly.

Smith can cause him problems but he has to force the pace. Too often against Williams he'd let Williams get off a 3 or 4 punch combination, keep a tight defence and then smile because it didn't land clean or he wasn't hurt. That's all well and good but it won't win him rounds at the top level. I thought he gave a good account of himself against Canelo although there was clearly levels between them.

Ali will go into this fight with a lot of confidence and momentum.

If Smith wins, Kell Brook would have to chase one of the other world champions in the 154lbs weight division (i.e. Lara, Charlo or Hurd), because Eddie Hearn and Fwank Warren rarely do business with each other.

If Sadam Ali wins, it's highly-likely that Eddie Hearn will try to make the fight with Kell Brook, since the Matchroom boss has discussed the possibility of this bout numerous times.

It's a shame because Brook–Smith would be a good domestic fight.

Smith has withdrawn from due to an allergic reaction.

Card will still go on, GBP will be looking for a replacement.
