Small Head = Glass Chin???
Has anyone else noticed a correlation between fighters having very small heads and also having poor chins?
Look at David Price for example, he has a tiny head. Amir Khan's head isn't the biggest either. Jarrod Fletcher who BJS knocked in 2 rounds also has a small head. Hearns also had quite a small head.
What are our thoughts?

Re: Small Head = Glass Chin???
You might find its the neck not the head thats more important
Re: Small Head = Glass Chin???
Yeah I'd say neck
Strong roots in a tree make it harder to bring down, so a thicker neck has its benefits

Re: Small Head = Glass Chin???
Is Prices head any smaller than anyone else's? It's sat on a giants frame.
Re: Small Head = Glass Chin???
Certain misconceptions with someone’s chin being strong and although contributing factors like size of head and neck the actual main part of having a good chin is your legs. Also Khan gets put down a lot for having a glass jaw.. Thats not exactly true.. Khan gets knocked down because he throws recklessly and doesn’t see the punches coming back.. If you see the punch coming it’s less likely to knock you out and your brain is ready for it where as like Khan when he gets hit his brain is scrambled and there’s no recovery in the legs

Do I disagree with you a lot?
This is not really a matter of opinion. Losing consciousness because of a punch is due to ‘brain shake’. The ‘main part’ of reducing brain shake is not strong legs.
Re: Small Head = Glass Chin???
The best way is to avoid the punches and keep your chin tucked inleejonesjnr wrote: ↑15 Mar 2018, 04:38Do I disagree with you a lot?

Re: Small Head = Glass Chin???
There's probably a correlation there - smaller head means less mass, so the same amount of force applied to it will result in greater acceleration = more brain shake. Also a bigger head is likely to indicate a thicker skull which protects the brain more / diffuses the kinetic energy of a punch. But it's one of a number of factors.
Re: Small Head = Glass Chin???
Losing consciousness is not having a good chin or not.. I’m pretty sure I made that clear in my post about the brains reaction.. My point is legs are the foundation that’s why Froch has such a good chin and go up from the Groves knock down.. Maybe I should of been clearer for better punch resistance strong legs as someone else said chin down and try and anticipate punches comingleejonesjnr wrote: ↑15 Mar 2018, 04:38Do I disagree with you a lot?

Re: Small Head = Glass Chin???
Dunno if its a coincidence but iv pointed out before people with known good chins for some reason usualy have a got a big head. Jake lamotta, george chuvalo, randall cobb, oliver mccall, marvin hagler, nicolai valuev, carmen basilio,
Obviously theres exceptions to the rules both sides Mayweather has a small head for example but on the whole when you look at guys with good chins they usualy have bigger than average head
Perhaps the neck having to carry a bigger heavier weight becomes stronger ? who knows interesting tho.
I dont know if it works the other way round and if you look at guys who seem to have less punch resistance than others if they have slightly smaller heads or necks interesting tho

Re: Small Head = Glass Chin???
on the tale of the tape they should have a head circumference measurement
Re: Small Head = Glass Chin???
Price's chin isn't even bad, he has a bad gasstank, freezes up and can't fight on instincts. I don't think an Oliver McCall chin would have saved him from his losses.

Was it not a burst eardrum that wrecked his balance in the first Thompson fight. He was being outboxed anyway.TheWizard321 wrote: ↑15 Mar 2018, 09:10Was Price gassed in the Teper and the first Thompson fight? I don't think he was.
He was a deer in the headlights against Teper he barely threw a punch.
Re: Small Head = Glass Chin???
Price is also very stiff and can't roll with/ride a shot to save his life. Even if he sees it coming he can't get out of the way.
Re: Small Head = Glass Chin???
Big stiff idiot
Re: Small Head = Glass Chin???
Pac has huge head and good chin.
Chisora has pretty good chin.... Does he even have a neck? He looks like hes ass starts straight where hes neck should be
I think that the neck and Head size do matter. How much I don't know...

There's nothing wrong with a little head.
Re: Small Head = Glass Chin???
Froch burst his eardrum against Pascal and won over twelve hard rounds, it doesn't mean you lose your balance and can't fight on automatically! Just that Froch has a good chin and Price does notBitPlayer wrote: ↑15 Mar 2018, 10:18Was it not a burst eardrum that wrecked his balance in the first Thompson fight. The shape and width of the jaw and neck and shoulder girdle is hugely important.

price was being outboxed? i dont think so. thompson had barely thrown a punch and the biggest moment of the fight till the knockout was a flurry price hadBitPlayer wrote: ↑15 Mar 2018, 10:18Was it not a burst eardrum that wrecked his balance in the first Thompson fight. price easily has a bad chin. thompsons not a puncher at all and has never flattened anyone decent like he did price. and of course teper brutally ktfo him. and pala put him on his ass and even the guy he fought in his debut rocked him. now add in the billion or so knockdowns he took as an amateur.....
