To be fair, Gary you only fought eight times last year and three so far this. Most of them four and six rounders against novice pros. Fair play to you but a grand for a four rounder seems like a decent return to me.
Not really mate u get left with less then a grand it sounds good but even if you fight 12 x in a year it’s only £12k .... only £250 a week wayyy below the minimum wage, like a say I’m not saying it’s bad money just that it can be long hard days with not much time for anything other then work/boxing - The question was “what is life like for the average pro” and imo 99.9% will say it’s hard graft for very little reward
i think too many people forget the game wouldn't exist if it wasn't for people willing to put it all on the line for not a lot of financial reward. i think most folk that have seen the work that goes into getting ready for even a small hall show have the utmost respect for those that do it.
Definetly mate
Most people think boxers a rich but 99.99% will never ever earn enough from boxing to live off for life - most people involved do it for the love

IT Depends, how far is the boxer willing to to go ?
What to how much money they make?
If so your wrong it’s down to their ability to how much they will make full stop............
Well... not really.
There are a number of factors that will affect income other than ability.
Nationality, promotional backing, character and charisma, popularity, physical appearance, personality etc

Not really Ok you have a Great character with charisma looks amazing the Real deal Muscels Athletic with a great personality but has NO Ability, how would he get promotional backing etc
It ain’t rocket science if he is sh1t he ain’t going anywhere....

With literally no ability at all, no, however with just a little boxing ability could get a televised pro debut and with decent but not genuine world level ability could challenge for a world title and win WBO European with one promoter and British with another and decent money.
Your point was that ability alone decides how financially successful a boxer is. That’s simply not true. I offer Rigo as an example.
Conor Benn? Enough said. Don't often say this but ability is further down the list than you think. Location etc and plays a part it's a fact that if your from a small place etc then it's very unlikely you will have any backing or make money.

What kind of money do you think he got for his fights?
But his ability will show and once he comes against someone half decent he gets beat then what. He won’t make a lot of money out of boxing,
He'll be making more for fights than Jamie McDonnell and kal yafai prob get for world title fights. He's also sponsored majorly by massive company's is that due to ability? Marketability etc is more important than ability. It's a business. Trust me there are some amazing fighters who all drop out early in careers due to the struggle. Takes a strong mind to keep going. Boys like Anthony crolla no disrespect to them but what they have done is insane and all due to things other than ability. He sells amazing and that's what led to opportunities and being matched right to be able to market him.

Do you really think he will be getting more then the 2 you mentioned for a 6 round fight?? I definitely don’t.. How much do you he think he got for he’s fights?
Not sure Who is his sponsors? Your right tho it ain’t down to his ability for his sponsorship, he will be in the Newspapper TV etc a lot more then your Average boxer due to who his father is that’s why they would jump on board, this is less then 0.1% of boxers that it ain’t down to their ability.
connor benn shouldn't really be used as a yardstick he's a 50,000-1 type fighter in that his dad was so loved as a fighter that he will always have some people want to see another benn.
Don't believe McDonnell or yafai make a great deal of cash. Believe for his first 4 rounder Benn would have got more than 10k. More than most get for title fights.

and connor mcgregor got 10,000 times that for his debut but neither is the norm is it .
For the huge majority of lads (who haven’t had a leg up Eubank Jr benn jr) it’s a hard old way to make a few quid
You can only go so far tho on little talent ....what was that kid called on allegedly a few year back did piles of tickets but got done by a journeyman early on and now retired - George keen ?

McDonnell has boxed abroad a few times and will definitely earn very well in Japan in his next fight. Bad example, to be honest.

Who makes it and who doesn't make it in boxing isn't always down to ability. If one person has a sponsor and is able to train full time he will improve at a greater rate than someone who is holding down a full time job.
I work a full time job and train 6 days a week. I also do my morning runs and spend around 3-4 hours a week prepping my food. Yet I don't mind most of this, I'd prefer to be sponsored to work less and train more. The main hassle is around all this I have to sell tickets to be in the home corner.
Getting people to part with £35-£40 which seems to be the extortionate rate tickets go at the moment is hard enough. When your average day consists of a run at 6:30am, shower breakfast then leaving for work to start at 9, finishing at 5 before getting to the gym for 7 not getting home until 9 then it become difficult to drop these off and get the sessions in.
