... JACK JOHNSON. Would Sam Langford have taken the title from Tommy Burns? How long would he have kept it, and to who would he have lost it? Harry Wills, Jack Dempsey?
... JACK DEMPSEY. Who would have taken the title from Willard? Would Harry Wills have gotten his title shot?
... JOE LOUIS. Would Schmeling have gotten his title back? Or Max Baer? Who would have dominated the late 30s, the early 40s?
... ROCKY MARCIANO. Would the early 50s have been dominated by a Charles/Walcott rivalry? Or would somebody else have come through?
... MUHAMMAD ALI. How long would Sonny Liston have kept the title, and agasint who would he have lost it? Would Goerge Foreman have been the dominator of the 1970s?
... LARRY HOLMES. Who of the many 1980s contenders - Weaver, Cooney, Coetzee, Witherspooon, Dokes, Thomas - would have come out on top?
Suppose there would have been no....
Re: Suppose there would have been no....
I think Liston would have maybe gotten a few more defences under his belt, but as good as Sonny was he was getting old by 64/65 and by all accounts was a very heavy drinker. After a few years an old, tired Liston may have got outworked by a young Frazier, Bonavena, Martin or even Ellis, pundit wrote:MUHAMMAD ALI. Then eventually Frazier would have taken over untill he ran into Foreman who had the ability to rule for years but may well have taken his eye off the ball and still dropped a points decision to the slippery Jimmy Young.
None of the likes of Witherspoon, Weaver, Tate, Dokes etc etc had the right combination of talent or dedication to be a dominant force. If Holmes wasn't around it would have just made another belt free to pass around.pundit wrote:LARRY HOLMES. If you don't like the thread, you should just ignore it. There are WAY too many repeat threads on this forum, but this topic seems different enough to not warrant your comment.DoubleM wrote:Sorry - someone had to say it.
Heavyweights, heavyweights, heavyweights... What if, what if?! What if there was no Ali? What if Conn beat Louis? What if Foreman-Ali wasn't staged in Zaire? What if D'Amato didn't die? What if Lewis had bigger ears?
It does get very, very boring.

I apologize to all who feel they have been unfairly censored in anyway.
I know some of this can get old for some, but there are always new people joining the forum and to them it is a brand new topic. So please just live an let live here.

DoubleM your a good contributor, I think the protesting by way of PM's was a bit thin skinned. I took a chance that you would likely not be offended by my actions. No harm done.
