Ronnie Clark doesn’t hold back on his unfair advantage, ruining Zelfa Barrett’s career, allegedly’s hurt ego and Stevie Wonder being the next judge in the rematch

Scotland’s Ronnie Clark, a 14/1 underdog entered the ring against undefeated and the highly talented Zelfa Barrett at York Hall, Bethnal Green. Not many gave the Dundee fighter a chance of pulling off an upset against the Manchester favourite.

‘The Shark’ showed a lot of bite and produced a solid performance. The 33-year-old won the hearts of the fans inside the arena as he defeated Barrett with an impressive dogged display.

Clark hasn’t had life easy and he didn’t need any added incentive to prove doubters wrong.

Ronnie was great to talk to. He certainly is a colourful character and I enjoyed interviewing him.

Fook me, I actually agree with everything that Ronnie says - just not sure it is in his best interests to actually say it!

Hopefully the fight goes ahead without too much jiggery-pokery and Ronnie gets a good win.

Understand Ronnie stance but Zelfa got same short notice against a tough southpaw , next time will have time to prepare fully to and we expect a much improved performance to and reverse

Couple of questions:

Is Barret a full time boxer?

Wasn’t he working towards that date?

Didn’t you have final say over opponent?

Why are you going for an immediate rematch?

Steve with all due respect I have seen most of Zelfa’s fights and that is the best performance I have seen from him. You are all too focused on the fact he lost and looking for excuses!! Sometimes in life you just get beat by the better man. Ronnie is all wrong for Zelfa. I know there is a belief that if Zelfa can not beat Ronnie then he isn’t good enough. That outlook is barking mad. Zelfa is at the wrong weight. The way your whole team are looking at this is very disrespectful to Ronnie. This is a very different Ronnie Clark from before. If this rematch happens at Super Featherweight in June then Zelfa will get knocked out and Zelfa will only have his team to blame for not addressing the issues and rebuilding.. I like Zelfa and think he can go far but many a talented fighter have faded away after getting put in with the wrong guy.

Hi Steve,

I've been trying to get hold of you to see if you can help arrange an interview with Josh Warrington. I've sent a few emails to VIP Promotions and your Facebook page but not a single reply. If you can help I can be contacted at ringnews24(AT)ringnews24.com

Thanks

Keep in mind that your view is a minority view. Most people will be picking Zelfa to win the rematch. The bookies will definitely have him as the favourite. I think Zelfa wins it myself.

They are clutching at straws as Ronnie has said in his interview Ego’s are hurt.. They don’t respect Ronnie look at the comment tough southpaw.. Ronnie out boxed Zelfa for the majority of the fight... They judged Ronnie on the Martin J Ward fight as people seen Ronnie is far better boxer than he showed that night and was still unlucky with the decision.. They really need to go watch the fight back Zelfa fought to the best of his ability at that weight he took a hell of a lot of punishment.. As a boxing fan I want to see Zelfa looked after and moved up to lightweight and rebuild but as Ronnie’s brother I want the rematch a lot of people not giving Ronnie the respect he deserves for the display he put on and I know he knocks Zelfa out in the rematch

Same as the last time and they all got it wrong.. Boxing is mostly about hype with no consideration into the actual match up.. That was both fighters best performance in their careers so far and I know that was Ronnie still at about 60% of what he can do.. This is the perfect weight for Ronnie he is super strong at it.. You seen what happened when Zelfa stood toe to toe he was getting out punched.. on the back foot Ronnie was too sharp.. Zelfa doesn’t have the strength to keep him off and Ronnie showed he can box as well

Even with my limited knowledge, even I can see that trying to make out that both Zelfa and Ronnie went into the fight on a level playing field is bollox.

Just be careful you don't talk them out of the rematch!

I think Zelfa underestimated him and I think Zelfa has a lot of scope for improvement. That was a massive learning fight. If he'd been KO'd then perhaps he would be ruined mentally but I think coming back hard from the knockdown and losing a decision isn't going to leave him with mental scars. It's definitely an interesting fight, not a foregone conclusion because Ronnie brings toughness and it looks like Zelfa doesn't have the power to knock him out. The biggest worry for me with Zelfa is the lack of power. He looks the part but needs to be able to discourage opponents. I can see Zelfa fighting a smarter fight this time, maybe a bit more boring but winning a decision. Another problem for Ronnie is that if it's close it's probably going to Zelfa. Bad mouthing Frank isn't a good move. This could be a good chance for Ronnie to get a decent opportunity. If he is on bad terms with promoters then even if he wins he will struggle to get a fight and be in the who-needs-him club. I hate that aspect of boxing but it is what it is. The Steven Smiths get world title shots because they are well in with promoters.

He is just saying it as it is... Frank has no interest In Ronnie and vice versa.. It’s all about money one of the best fights I have seen in a long long time and Ronnie gets more views on IFL than some of his big name stars.. I actually prefer Warren to Hearn but Both only interested in money not the fighters risking their lives.. Would love to see either of them get in and fight would soon change their minds how they treat boxers.. Glad to see what’s happening with MTK hopefully this is the way forward

i hope so. i missed out on the 14/1 or whatever it is the last time. i won't miss out on whatever it is for ronnie next time if he is a decent price. not like the bookies to make the same mistake twice though, will be interesting to see the price for both fighters when the fight is announced.

Ronnie doesn't care what any promotor or manager says and will walk away from boxing rather than let any of them dictate to who he is. He says in alot of interviews about being pure and trust me he won't hide who he is. He sat at a table with yarde and Dubois and told them all he is the most real fighter in the UK.... Why? Because he calls a fight for exactly what it is.

Steve wood- the problem is zelfa believes that he brawled with Ronnie but not the case. Ronnie turned it up at certain times and zelfa couldn't live with him. Ronnie was landing his jab all the time snapping his head back. Your man's favourite shot was punching Ronald in the balls and the referee was giving him.high 5s. Also nothing said about the gum shield. You had more notice than Ronnie and if you want to lie and make out you didn't then that's your problem but we all know the truth. Ronnie was always on the radar and before Ronnie had to take some.time out the fight was being made, Also osejo was a fight in prep for it.

Anyways enough talking. Hurry up and sort the contract and we shall see you in June.
