Charles Martin
Anyone know who his next opponent is noticed he had 2 fights after lost to Joshua want to see him in with someone like Dominic breazle
Re: Charles Martin
Needs to rebuild that momentum he had after Glazkov about as much as Glazkov needed to rebuild his knee.
Re: Charles Martin
honestly, call me crazy, but i think hes way better then he gets credit for
i know hes a joke like figure because of some of his words and actions, and how easily he went down vs aj, and also his title winning fight was funny, but hes not bad,. pretty good hand speed and power combo for a hw, and had really nice activity level coming up with some decent prospect wins, still being the only to ko dawejko.
i got the sense that he was gonna beat glazkov and hed really begun opening up in round 3 before the ending, but ya it wasnnt a conclusive win. i do think hes got some good ability but i wonder if theres much heart in it these days after thaat massive aj payday.

Re: Charles Martin
I heard somewhere that he was ready to stand in for Ortiz the other day because his blood pressure reading was very high and Martin would have stepped in if it hadn't dropped in time.
Did anyone know if there was anything to that?

Re: Charles Martin
I don't know, bro...he never impressed me and took what, like 10 rounds to dispatch Love? Also, Glaskov was outweighed by some 30 lbs. He's not terrible, but I would need to see more. IMO.jamamb wrote: ↑17 Mar 2018, 19:59 honestly, call me crazy, but i think hes way better then he gets credit for

Re: Charles Martin
Ever since his gunshot I haven't heard much about him, I saw he was on the undercard of Luis Ortiz, but probably got lowballed by Wilder his team.
Re: Charles Martin
I don't think he was on the undercard. He hasn't fought since last year as far as I know. Haven't thought about him, but I would like to see him in the ring again.

Re: Charles Martin
He was scheduled to fight on the undercard, without opponent, that's why I was quite confident Wilder wouldn't end up in the ring with Ortiz, but I was very very happy to finally be wrong around Wilder.
Re: Charles Martin
Really...! I had no idea. Had I seen him on the card with a TBA, I'd be nervous about Ortiz as well. Glad I missed all that! Thanks.asdfjkl wrote: ↑17 Mar 2018, 21:28He was scheduled to fight on the undercard, without opponent, that's why I was quite confident Wilder wouldn't end up in the ring with Ortiz, but I was very very happy to finally be wrong around Wilder.
Re: Charles Martin
It would be acceptable for me to see Martin against Tyson Fury.
Anyway, Martin is better than Molina or some others HWs who had the chance to fight for a belt recently.

Re: Charles Martin
I was ringside for one of his post AJ fights. He looked pretty pudgy and out of shape, but it didn't stop him from getting a 1st round KO.
I honestly don't expect he'll ever be disciplined enough to give a sincere effort and make his best push for success again. He seems like the money he made in the AJ fight was enough for him.
He may well be used as Cannon Fodder for a name again before it's all said and done, but I think his moment in the sun in this sport has come and gone.

Re: Charles Martin
The worst HW title holder of all time. Proof that sometimes power is enough to win some fights; he surely didn't have anything else.

Who promotes him?
Does Haymon manage him?

Re: Charles Martin
He should fight Fury. Fury would smoke him.
Re: Charles Martin
Everyone make fun of him, because he has won the title like that and has been knocked out early in his first defence. Yes, he's the worst hw champ ever, but not so bad fighter in general. A fighter of such level mustn't be given a shot. He looks like a near-top guy, a prospect, who is pretty raw and just needs some decent names to prove he can challenge top opposition.
Re: Charles Martin
Can't see him gaining much momentum tbh
Re: Charles Martin
I'd agree with that. He never looks like he wants to be in there. The look on his face when Joshua knocked him down the first time, made me put him on the "pay no mind" list.gilgamesh wrote: ↑18 Mar 2018, 00:03 I was ringside for one of his post AJ fights. Re: Charles Martin
I've said much the same but got sh1t from all sides for it, but I don't recall anyone dismissing him as a joke before Joshua destroyed him and I've said on here a few times I can see Wilder v Joshua playing out exactly the same way such is AJ's timing and ability to see an opening and capitalize on it.jamamb wrote: ↑17 Mar 2018, 19:59 honestly, call me crazy, but i think hes way better then he gets credit for

I would vm like to see him against Jennings or Ruiz or Kownacki etc.
Re: Charles Martin
nope, he wasnt considered a joke or a particularly bad fighter. but then the funny glazkov ending (in a fight martin was getting the better of, admittedly early) and aj capitulation and suddenly he was always awful according to boxing fans
but coming up he wasnt considered a joke at all. he was very active and was beating other prospects and getting good compariative results, like being the only one to stop dawejko. he had won all his fights easily and shown pretty good hand speed and not bad power. he clearly had some athleticism. he was a decent amateur too and won the pal national titles, which is a major usa title.
vs glazkov he was keeping range okay and despite being bigger was clearly faster. it was early but he was starting to open up on glazkov before the injury. martin was a decent sized favourite vs glazkov and that showed a much different narrative on him to the later 'hes the biggest joke ever!' stuff
but the lame showing vs aj (smiling when he was counted out shows not much heart to continue) and what ppl can say was a flukey ending vs glazkov just made it too easy to act like he was always an awful joke. his embarassing and odd talk/behaviour in interviews and social media didnt help either

Re: Charles Martin
He has the physical gifts, but that look in his eye after the first AJ knockdown showed me he didn't have it to be a champ. I could be completely wrong (if I only had a nickel).jamamb wrote: ↑18 Mar 2018, 22:06 nope, he wasnt considered a joke or a particularly bad fighter. but then the funny glazkov ending (in a fight martin was getting the better of, admittedly early) and aj capitulation and suddenly he was always awful according to boxing fans

Re: Charles Martin
i agree, he showed no mental toughness and looked to just come for the payday, which was supposedly very big and may explain his lack of activity since
but imo hes not nearly as bad as he gets made out now. i think he was comfortably better then a guy like glazkov who was rated top 10-15 for a while.
if he had gone out on his shield vs aj and not said such embarassing things like 'i walk the earth like a god' i think hed be regarded as a much better fighter then ppl see him now

Re: Charles Martin
You may be right, but heart and mental toughness are a part of it. You really have to be a great fighter to be in the top 20 when you put it in perspective, so he could not have been terrible. That's just nonsense, but I wouldn't go out of my way to see him fight.jamamb wrote: ↑18 Mar 2018, 22:10 i agree, he showed no mental toughness and looked to just come for the payday, which was supposedly very big and may explain his lack of activity since

Re: Charles Martin
heart and mental toughness is part of it, but i think he was actually good enough to not be in too hard of fights until maybe the top 10 or 15 range or so. i feel he was going to beat glazkov comfortably for example. he was never going to be an elite hw or even a very strong next tier guy, but i do feel he had lower top 10-12 ability, rather then being some awful bad joke of a fighter.
