Scotland’s most successful trainer Billy Nelson adds to stable; List of fighters he’s worked with

Post by Ringnews24 »

I usually post my own interviews but this is an article done by a Scottish writer Jon Bruce. Thought I'd share here as I know Billy Nelson posts on the Boxrec forum. Nelson has added a new fighter to his stable and has worked with a lot of fighters.

Scotland’s most successful trainer Billy Nelson adds to stable; List of fighters he’s worked with

Billy Nelson announced recently that he has added Lewis Johnstone to his stable of fighters. As the most successful trainer in Scottish boxing this is a great move for standout amateur Lewis, he will no doubt gain from the experience of Billy and his stablemates already in the gym. We take a look back at some of the fighters that have been with Billy and what they have won.

Ricky Burns – Taking on Ricky after the Carl Johanneson defeat in 2007 Billy took the “Rickster” on a 22 fight winning streak, World titles at 2 different weights speaks for itself and there can be no denying that this is the standout achievement so far.

Good signing for Billy, I would imagine there is gonna be a few amateurs turning over after the commonwealth's so billy might pick up a few. I would imagine Reece McFadden and John Docherty turning over.

I think Peter Harrison is Scotland’s most successful trainer at this minute in time. Billy is probably a close 2nd and I have seen first hand he knows his stuff. Billy is fiercely loyal to anyone who is in his camp and although sometimes it might cause heated debates on here. How can you not respect someone who cares for these fighters like they are his family.. You just had to watch his face after last nights fight.. No Ego there just genuine concern for Big Simmo.. A couple of weeks ago was the same at the Jason Easton fight. If boxing has more people like Billy Nelson it would be in a far better state.. Boxing is a hard sport in Scotland everyone fighting over the crumbs for the big table. Most wont work together and the chances the fighters get a very low would be good if the few of the trainers started working more closely together and pushing the Scottish lads on..
