Re: HW danny williams still fighting
I just randomly checked Boxrec today and noticed that Danny fought last weekend, a first round KO of 0-3 Rudolf Balasz. If fighting at this level scratches an itch for Williams then let him continue so long as he doesn’t try to step it up. Maybe he will stop now, I saw an interview with him a while back and he said he wanted to get 50 wins...
Re: HW danny williams still fighting
A shocking level in fairness. The opposition in those four wins had a combined record of 13-86-2. If you include his two most recent wins as well before them you have him beating a combined 24-115-2 across six fighters.
He's won six fights since September 2011, and lost sixteen, getting stopped seven times. I don't know what he's making or indeed getting out of habitually being stopped in small halls and hotels in Latvia and Romania but it feels a sad end for a guy who fought for a world title and beat Mike Tyson.

When you find yourself trapped in a corner....
Re: HW danny williams still fighting
I loved Danny Williams back in the day. Always tuned in to his fights and I was over the moon when he skelped Tyson! Jumping about the livingroom! It's pretty sad he's still going. Must obviously be doing it out of necessity. Surely he could get a gig as a security grunt with one of these firms that does the boxing?
Re: HW danny williams still fighting
Not exactly sure if money is always THE motivating factor.
Danny was fighting way down the bill on this card, no where near headlining.
The venue is Plzen was nice, but fairly small. Tickets were priced at 100 Czech Koruna, that equates to approx. 4.84 USD / 3.47 GBP / 3.93 Euro - an absolute bargain - but my take is that no-one is ever going to make a fortune fighting in places like Czech Republic from ticket sales at these prices - hence my comment that money is NOT always THE motivating factor.
We can only speculate what the motivating factor really is. If Danny insists on continuing, then he needs to either stick to fighting guys at this level or possibly other 'names' from his generation who are at a similar level of decline - exhibition type matches wearing 20oz gloves and no heavy blows to the head would be fine by me.

The reason a while back was that he was putting his kids through private school, guess that is still the case. Hope they bloody appreciate what he's doing for them if so.Kassel wrote: ↑17 Mar 2018, 14:14 Not exactly sure if money is always THE motivating factor.

Re: HW danny williams still fighting
I think Danny is foolish, surely he could have gotten a decent paying job doing security work if he put his mind to it.
He must be earning peanuts now, and I'm sure his kids would rather go to state school, than see him die of a brain bleed, or end up paralysed, dead, or his brain shot to pieces.
I understand it is all he knows, but it just seems incredibly foolish to take such risks with your health, for so little money at his age.

Re: HW danny williams still fighting
The money he gets from these fights won't go anywhere near putting one kid through even a rubbish private school.

Re: HW danny williams still fighting
Is Danny also fighting unlicensed? He boxed in October 2017 against former pro cruiser Hari Miles and lost.
Re: HW danny williams still fighting
Surely Danny does not need to fight - surely he got well paid for some of his more high profile bouts. Even if there were some issues over the payment vs Tyson - surely everything was Kosha for his world title fight (and at the time he was probably Vitali's most lucrative option). He also had some rather big fights vs Skelton and Harrison. Also if I remember rightly he was given a pretty big pay day for the Gammer fight - Gammer's promoted paid way over the odds to secure home advantage - although again, hope the payment went through okay.
The man hated boxing and clearly hated training. He did not near live up to his talent - so I just cannot understand. He was (at least) an articulate speaker with so much experience and is not a bad looking chap. He could have been a useful addition to the pundit scene or even after dinner speaking would be more lucrative and less dangerous than this.

Re: HW danny williams still fighting
I would wonder if he is being paid at all for some of his recent contests.
He has won 3 of his last 4 but it is unlikely that his opponents were selling tickets and I wouldn't have thought that Danny Williams pulls a crowd for a 4 rounder in Czech Republic these days.

His big paydays are a long long time ago.
I agree though that there are other things he could have done, that would definitely earn him more than the peanuts he will be getting.
I've long wanted to do a book on Danny, but first he needs to retire, I've been waiting a long while for that.

Re: HW danny williams still fighting
Paul Boyce won the purse bid for Gammer v Williams for about 60k, so I guess as challenger Williams would have got 20k less his expenses. It doesn't exactly set you up for life.

Re: HW danny williams still fighting
10 percent trainers fee
Managers and promoter 20 per total?
12 week training camp / sparring etc
Tax deductions
Wouldn’t have been left with much at

Re: HW danny williams still fighting
Did he get any big pay off from the tyson fight? It was huge news at the time and I'd assume he got some good pay packets off the back of it.
Re: HW danny williams still fighting
Decent enough if you get 3 a year, but at the end of the day earning 60k a year in London gives you an average life when you are fighting but doesn't leave much for the pension pot. If he has bought a house a car, keeps a missus and puts his kids in private school, he isn't left with anything at the end of each financial year.

Who trains him now or who does his corner
Work on this eastern euro circuit he’s on?
