"A friend close to the Speight family informed Boxingtalk that former cruiserweight/heavyweight Exum Speight died of a stroke on Match 7th 2016, while incarcerated for the 1987 murder of Douglas Stumler, Speight’s former manager. Speight was arrested in Los Angeles in September 2013 after a recent test linked his DNA to the scene of the crime. He pleaded “no contest” and was sentenced to eleven years. Speight retired from boxing in 2001 with a record of 9-39-2, having been defeated by Wladimir Klitschko, Chris Byrd, John Ruiz, and other up-and-coming champions of his time. Boxingtalk has been following the story of Exum Speight even before his 2013 arrest, as can be seen in the following articles."
