Prime Duran vs. Prime Mayweather at any weight?
In a head to head I have to pick Duran by UD or SD. I hear many people predicting that Mayweather will be the best ever but I have a hard time picking him as winner against many fighters. What do you guys think?
I think Duran will insult Mayweather like he did to Sugar Ray Leonard in their making Leonard fight Duran's way trying to out-macho him which was Leonard's mistakes. Mayweather will make the same mistakes as Leonard trying to out-macho Duran and Duran punished Mayweather around the ring. I say Duran TKO 14 Floyd Mayweather

Mayweather would not have been easy for any lightweight in history; including Duran. Estaban Dejesus and Ken Buchanan troubled Duran with thier speed and boxing skill. Mayweather has ALOT more of both, including power than those two. To say Duran would beat him easily is rediculous.
That being said, I pick Duran by tough UD or late round tko.

yeah this seems like a good synopsis of what would happen. Floyd at 135 was more flashy than anything else. Duran is certianly better than Castillo (taking nothing away from Castillo) and I see him beating Floyd and punishing his arms and body much like Marciano did to his unlucky opponents. Dont get me wrong here, Duran is not garunteed a victory, he was much tougher than Floyd, Floyd has a shot at frustrating Duran enough to win a close Decision but I dont see it hapening. Duran TKO 11.Les Darcy wrote:floyd dont like fighting up close, castillo beat him up bad in their first fight, duran would beat floyd on the inside and stop him in the late rounds, floyds never been in with anyone that could prepare him for duran
im glad we both agreed on Duran with a TKO in the 11th roundsockdollanger wrote:yeah this seems like a good synopsis of what would happen. Floyd at 135 was more flashy than anything else. I heard Duran is one of Floyd's favorite fighters.
Are you saying that Duran was not prime at 140 and 147? Are you sure Duran was not dominant at 140 and 147? Look at his record and remember Duran vs. Leonard was at 147 and that fight was one of his best performances ever. He took Leonard to school that night.
Duran was a top welterweight. One of the very best of all time. The only thing he didn't have in spades was power, which he lost as he moved up from lightweight. Watch his fights against Leonard, Palomino and Gonzalez and what you will see is one of the greatest fighters of all time. The Palomino fight in particular showcases some of the very best skills ever seen in the sport. Duran is focused, vicious, speedy and very agile, but most importantly, he is technically flawless and also versatile. Check out both his inside and outside fighting.

I agree Duran was a great great welterweight, but he was flat out dominant as a lightweight.DoubleM wrote:Duran was a top welterweight. One of the very best of all time. Everyone talks about when Leonard played headgames w/ Duran in the No Mas fight, but he did the same thing to Leonard in the first bout giving him no respect and just going right at him.
I think Duran, hes a great fighter and I think in his prime could beat Leonard because of his great style and rough type of fighting. I just watched this video champions forever - the latin legends and it comments a bit on Leonard-Duran I and I believe if Duran can do what he did and get inside Leonards head he could beat him in their primes.

I think Duran stops him. Duran's ability to cut off the ring and often underrated defensive abilities and chin would be too much for Mayweather. Duran would cut off the ring and go to the body and frustrate Mayweather. The "no mas" incident was bullshit. Someone in this forum said something interesting about Duran being sick, and I find it actually believeable. The "no mas" incident was just blown way out of proportions. Everyone forgets Duran went up in weight and still chose to fight the best guys in the division he was in. It would be a bit like Floyd moving up to fight Winky.

Plus I don't think Mayweather is half the fighter Duran was.
