You talk pretty good Yank-oriented trash-talk for a Brit (I assume).![]()
I grew up in Pittsburgh and lived there until I was 16. The Steel City is famous for factory-working East Europeans (Poles, Croatians, etc) but then you apparently know that already.![]()
Are you going to take that?
Did Mel Gibson do nothing for your national pride?
Michael Conlan

Re: Michael Conlan
Conlan from what I've seen so far (albeit hes still green) will be a force. He is an upcoming talent.
I'll be keeping a close eye on his career as he works through the ranks. His power is absolutely devastating. He has an aggressive style and some good boxing fundamentals behind him.
Conlan will surely be in the mix with the best of them in a couple of years.

I was giving you props for knowing your US demographics!! Not many folks from outside the US know that Pittsburgh is famous for "ski" names & I was impressed by that. If I offended you by calling you the wrong nationality, sorry. I'm not easily offended in that regard (I've been called many nationalities) but I guess I shouldnt expect other folks to have the same attitude.

Re: Michael Conlan
He's a two time Olympian who probably should've went on to win gold or at least Silver if it wasn't for him getting jobbed. He's a talented fighter. To say he's only getting hyped because he gave someone the finger is just silly. Yeah it raised his profile but anyone can flip a finger at someone. He's a good fighter.
Re: Michael Conlan
He looked more complete than I remember. I was pleasantly surprised at his accuracy and even his power.slappy wrote: ↑18 Mar 2018, 10:30 Was anyone else really impressed with this last outing? For the past year I have been doubtful his skills would translate to the pros. But his last fight he looked patient, precise and with his feet firmly planted on his punches.
I am beginning to think he may be able to grow into a fun factor in an exciting division
Re: Michael Conlan
Many olympians who was more succesful than Conlan doesnt get his recognition by far. From what ive saw that middle finger get him more popularity in pros than his amateur succeses. He was a good amateur and he is a good fighter. Just saying he is a hyped too much.Stuarty wrote: ↑28 Mar 2018, 11:48He's a two time Olympian who probably should've went on to win gold or at least Silver if it wasn't for him getting jobbed. Re: Michael Conlan
Promoters were falling over themselves to sign him because he's a talent and because he's got massive potential. Huge backing fan wise as well. Time will tell if he'll hit the heights but he wasn't signed for flicking the finger at folk.Cent0089 wrote: ↑28 Mar 2018, 12:20Many olympians who was more succesful than Conlan doesnt get his recognition by far. Re: Michael Conlan
Agreed. Conlan is legit and the fact that Arum showcased him on St Patrick's Day demonstrates how much confidence Arum has in his talent NOT his antics. He just needs to move him a little quicker because Mick is already 26.Stuarty wrote: ↑28 Mar 2018, 15:09Promoters were falling over themselves to sign him because he's a talent and because he's got massive potential. I suspect Arum will have him fighting in Boston soon as well as NYC since both have huge Irish-American populations.
Re: Michael Conlan
Yeah he needs a test next. Maybe someone like Sergio Martinez. He'd ask a few questions and always brings it.Best Coast wrote: ↑28 Mar 2018, 18:03Agreed. Re: Michael Conlan
his olympic robbery was really overblown. seen far far worse. the russian couldnt miss him with hooks and clearly shook him at one point. conlans stuff was a lot of tapping combos. he probably shouldve won but just in the same olympics people got robbed far harder, that khazk in the hw final for example. he was a top amateur but defo got extra exposure for the finger.
being irish turns up the robbery factor even more. they moaned too when katie taylor clearly lost to some fin. and even at paul mccloskey not getting any rounds from the judges vs khan even though khan was levels and levels above
