Re: Fitzimmonds
I am researching a little family history and on Wikipedia Bob Fitzsimmonds boxing record shows 4 Draws and then a list of his professional boxing record. On 22 Sept, 1908 it records a Draw against Jim Paul at Benson Mines, New York, I am trying to research a little more about Jim Paul.

Yes apparently. In the back of "Lanky Bob" this book I'm reading.Caractacus wrote: ↑29 Mar 2018, 12:53 Is there a compleat listing of all of Bob Fitzsimmons exhibitions ?

I see the result listed in the back of the book now Brenda.Brenda evans wrote: ↑29 Mar 2018, 13:13 I am researching a little family history and on Wikipedia Bob Fitzsimmonds boxing record shows 4 Draws and then a list of his professional boxing record. It lists it as Jean (Jim) Paul, Benson Mines, NY.....W KO 1 for Fitz
(Also reported as W pts 3)
So he either won a 3 round decision over Jim Paul or knocked him out in the 1st depending on who you ask I guess.

Re: Fitzimmonds
wasn't someone accidently killed in either a sparring session or exhibition with Bob Fitzsimmons ?
Re: Fitzimmonds
I'm also seeing that he had another exhibition with Jean (Jim) Paul 5 days later in Watertown, New York
This is just listed as a 3 round Exhibition.
Fitz also did a 3 round exhibition with Ralph Barter on the same day.
The date was September 21st for Fitz's first encounter with Jim Paul and Sept. 26 for the 2nd.
Ralph Barter sparred exhibitions with Fitz as well on both dates.

There's a Jean Paul on Cyberboxingzone in 1908

Yep that's pretty much the same info I have on him here.BitPlayer wrote: ↑29 Mar 2018, 13:20 There's a Jean Paul on Cyberboxingzone in 1908

I'm not seeing a Professional record for Paul so I'd assume his Exhibition bouts with Fitzsimmons are about as far as his Boxing career extended.
That being said, to have even been offered the position to have been involved in Fitz's Exhibition bouts he would've had to at the very least have had a reputation as a local tough guy.
Perhaps he was an amateur boxer in the New York area, or just a guy that had a reputation for getting into scraps and winning 'em.
Re: Fitzimmonds
There's tons of matches from that period still missing from boxrec, especially small local ones, he may have just have fought locally or something.gilgamesh wrote: ↑29 Mar 2018, 13:27Yep that's pretty much the same info I have on him here.BitPlayer wrote: ↑29 Mar 2018, 13:20 There's a Jean Paul on Cyberboxingzone in 1908

Re: Fitzimmonds
There is a Jimmy Paul listed as an active Middleweight from 1911-1920
I'm not sure what his physical build was (Brenda's relative that is), but it's not out of the question that this possibly could've been the same guy.
It's certainly not inconceivable that an amateur fighting exhibitions in 1908 could've been a Pro by 1911.
This guy is also listed as being from New York, New York too. So it's possible that this could be the same man.
I can't say for sure though.
