Nathan Gorman...what's he all about?
Nathan Gorman...what's he all about?
I'm asking my friends across the pond to give their opinion on Nathan Gorman. I haven't had the opportunity to see much of him and I'm curious as to what you think. Thanks in advance!!!!

He seems a canny boxer technically, but his size and dimensions don't suit his ability I feel, I'm intrigued by his potential and can't wait to see him step up in levels.

Can he fight?

So it's worth it to see how he develops? or do you think it's a long shot to advance.TheGingerBomber wrote: ↑29 Mar 2018, 17:08 He seems a canny boxer technically, but his size and dimensions don't suit his ability I feel, I'm intrigued by his potential and can't wait to see him step up in levels.

I think he'll have to come a long way to fight for a world title, but I won't say he doesn't have it in him. HEs from traveller stock, so he's been brought up to fight, and he's still a baby! I think he'll win a British title easily, European in a couple of years. But no one cares till you're up in world contention so....we'll have to wait, I would definitely keep an eye out.oogiebe wrote: ↑29 Mar 2018, 17:13So it's worth it to see how he develops? or do you think it's a long shot to advance.TheGingerBomber wrote: ↑29 Mar 2018, 17:08 He seems a canny boxer technically, but his size and dimensions don't suit his ability I feel, I'm intrigued by his potential and can't wait to see him step up in levels.

Thanks! It's hard for us to follow the European fighters, and I love to follow prospects.TheGingerBomber wrote: ↑29 Mar 2018, 17:24I think he'll have to come a long way to fight for a world title, but I won't say he doesn't have it in him. Seems like a decent guy. He's only pretty young and inexperienced so it'shard to tell, At his size I'm not sure he has the athleticism to get to the top, but I think he could do decent.
Re: Nathan Gorman...what's he all about?
Gorman is plenty talented for his age, trained by Ricky Hatton, and his matchmaking is very ambitious (which is a good sign). One bad sign for his potential is he has T-rex arms, but Ricky Hatton had a 65" wingspan (probably 5 inches undersized) and he's a hall of famer. Hatton is a perfect teacher to show Gorman how to fight on the inside and make his lack of reach not matter.
Re: Nathan Gorman...what's he all about?
Only had 12 amateur fights apparently so he's only had 24 fights in total. To be where he's at with that limited experience points towards considerable natural ability. Seems comfortable on the inside, decent punch variety, works the body and has deceptive hand speed for someone of his shape. Need to see more of him to judge his footwork, gets caught with the odd sloppy straight shot and would like to see him commit to his jab a bit more.
Only 21 though so fully expect him to win British and European titles in the next few years as long as he doesn't run into someone like Joyce on his way up. I imagine the plan for FW is to build them both until one gets a world title and then match them in a big fight.

Re: Nathan Gorman...what's he all about?
Not so long ago he'd have been carrying the weight of expectation, but we in the UK are a bit spoilt for Heavyweights lately with AJ, and Dillian Whyte in the top 10, Fury minor looking to get there, Fury major threatening to re-stake his claim, even Haye, Bellew and Chisora somewhere in the mix.
As prospects go Joe Joyce is the most immediate, Daniel Dubois seen as the most exciting but one very much for the future, people like Nick Webb and Nathan Gorman are largely left to go about their business undisturbed.
From what I've seen of Nathan so far, he seems to be good in all aspects of the game without being outstanding in any department. He appears to have decent power but I don't believe anyone regards him as a big puncher in the way that Dubois is, and that more than anything probably explains why he isn't getting we Brits unduly excited.
Like I said - we've gotten a bit spoilt.
