Jeff Lacy Files Lawsuit Over 'Left Hook' Trademark
https://www.BS.com/jeff-lacy-f ... rk--126713
Former world super middleweight champion Jeff Lacy is back for another fight – this one in a courtroom - and “Left Hook” is coming out swinging according to a lawsuit filed Friday morning in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia - Atlanta Division.
Alleging that Georgia’s Racetrac Petroleum, Inc. engaged in “trademark infringement and unlawful competition” for launching and selling a “Left Hook” sports drink beginning in the summer of 2013, Lacy is seeking damages of $519,786,000 as well as the removal of the drink from the marketplace.
In the lawsuit filed by attorney Luke Anderson, Lacy and his co-plaintiff, manager Clay Dustin, state that, “Mr. Lacy never authorized RaceTrac to use the LEFT HOOK mark for its sports drink or otherwise. Accordingly, in March 2016 Mr. Lacy notified RaceTrac that its use of the “Left Hook” mark infringed his trademark rights. With full knowledge of Mr. Lacy’s superior rights to the LEFT HOOK mark RaceTrac had the option of conforming its unlawful conduct by voluntarily ceasing its infringement. RaceTrac choose not to. Instead RaceTrac showed absolute disregard for Mr. Lacy’s rights and the impact that its unlawful actions had on him and the LEFT HOOK mark by continuing its unlawful infringement unabated.”

The Sports drink company is probably simply going to accurately say "We've literally never even heard of this Jeff Lacy motherfucker...didn't think we had to check with him to use 'Left Hook' "
and the Court is gonna say "Yeah...you didn't"
Sports drink company "Yeah that's we thought"
The end.
Nice try Jeff....I mean not really, but...you tried.

Re: Jeff Lacy Files Lawsuit Over 'Left Hook' Trademark
lacys mainly a laughing stock anyway, his remembrance reduced to a massive hype job who got embarrassingly exposed. hes become his own verb 'oh, so and so just got lacy'd, totally exposed and humiliated'.
if ppl thought of jeff when they saw that drink none wouldve ever sold

Looks like they added 5 digits on the end in a clerical error.

That is a typo, surely?
Re: Jeff Lacy Files Lawsuit Over 'Left Hook' Trademark
These type of lawsuits in the US often tend to get filed for ridiculous claim amounts and the final settlement if successful is usually a lot lower.
For Lacy’s claim to be successful it depends on the industries and products his trademark covers. Looking at the can it bears no relation to boxing or sports whatsoever, so Lacy is probably onto a loser here. Also if he doesn’t have a product line which he could claim the company are profiting from name association then again he probably has no chance...

Sometimes big companies will offer out of court settlements in order to avoid the hassle of going to court, a couple mil and the right to continue selling the product would probably suit both parites and Lacy should grab it with both hands if he is offered it.Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑25 Apr 2018, 10:04Nope! He'll probably get $2m? I don't know.

They'd be morons to give Lacy jack sh*t. I've never heard of this energy drink so it can't be making all that much money, Lacy doesn't have a case here. Let him take it to court. If anything they might wind up being able to sue Lacy for court costs. He'll wind up costing himself money if anything here. He has no case, and if they just settle with him they might as well pack it in and go out of business now because they suck as a company.keirw wrote: ↑25 Apr 2018, 10:42Sometimes big companies will offer out of court settlements in order to avoid the hassle of going to court, a couple mil and the right to continue selling the product would probably suit both parites and Lacy should grab it with both hands if he is offered it.
