Reverse Racism in Boxing

Post by HomicideHenry »

What I find interesting about Larry Holmes old interviews in the 80s and 90s was how he said that boxing was so incredibly racist (especially during the Cooney campaign) and yet.... Isn't it bizarre that he'd do a KFC commercial, as if to dare anyone to comment on WHY it was okay for him to push this stereotype of African Americans?

Stereotype??? .... You've got to be kidding us... Nothing wrong with doing a commercial for tender and juicy fried chicken... Most everybody loves fried chicken.... You don't have to be black.

If I'm Polish does that mean I can't do a commercial for sausages??

If I'm Mexican does that mean I can't do commercials for chicken enchiladas???

If I'm German does that mean I can't do commercials for sauerkraut???

If I'm French does that mean I can't do commercials for fries???

People eat a little differently all over the world and that's why Anthony Bourdain has a job.

I find more interesting the fact, that Holmes himself did some racist accusations to Marciano family after he had lost to Spinks. Larry was angry, as he had lost the title just while getting close to Rocky's record, so he talked trash in the post-fight conference. By the way, he said then, that no white guy would ever score such amount of title defences as him, but he had mistaken, Wlad has proved him wrong.

Fried chicken has been the stereotype for African Americans since the plantation days... When Joe Louis was on the way up his black managers adamantly stated that he should never be pictured in the presence of fried chicken... Etc etc etc... As for Anthony Bourdain, he's another borderline racist who says, "Hey these migrants need to pick tomatoes and wash dishes because us white people don't want those jobs."

Dead people crave KFC and I'll not here a single negative word spoken here (or anywhere else) against the dearly departed.

Let's not forget that both Marvin Hagler and Jerry Quarry were signed on for deodorant and shaving cream respectively.....I'd call that equal opportunity.

Despite the righteous who are not racist (he said sarcastically), racism, in one form or another, exists in every society; in every human; in one way or another. You can't regulate how people feel. It's disgusting that there is racist ACTION being done, although I don't look at a KFC commercial as any kind of example. I don't care what anyone thinks...it's what they do that concerns me.

sheeyat,Freid Chicken was the house specialty at the Bristo in Archie Moore's Resturant back in the 1960's.
that was once located at the corner of 30th and Market Street in San Diego
and reportedly It was prepared for you by the "Ole Mongoose" himself !

I am aware of the stereotype being discussed, but I always thought of fried chicken as a Southern stereotype; it's just that many Black families came out of the South. It is the other item that is more commonly used to be racially rude.

Should Dempsey not have hawked Whiskey? He was after all, Irish. ;-)

LOL! Seriously, I'm sick of the racist card; I'm sick of "Holier than thou;" I look at it this way. Some folk are assh#les and some aren't. Unfortunately the former dominates the headlines.
