The thing is with boxing, ability goes last. Mental and physical attributes are so important. Ability-wise you can be a cross between Mayweather, Ali and Tyson but if you’re scared, you won’t go nowhere. Audley Harrison had Olympic Gold medal skills but when he stepped in with Price, David was the confident killer and Audley shat himself. Tables have turned now. The deadly killer Price would’ve stopped Povetkin last night

Heavyweight is probably Britain's strongest domestic division. There are loads of good fights he can have for that title.

Hughie Fury is ranked higher than him, so it's not as if it's a step down for him in the first place.

Hughie would be his best win by a fair margin.
Yeah he needs to do it before Dubois starts challenging for it as he looks like could cause problems for Pricey

great perfomance by price, considering expectations. every time he hit povetkin, he hurt him, and had him very close to a ko, but no finishing instinct or speed.
i'd have no wish to see him fight again.

Price does seem to do everything very well except take a punch. He should retire, he won't be able to fix that.

I can't believe ppl still want him to fight. Even if he wins a fight at some point he will step and get hurt. Stop the madness.

He doesn't have to stop fighting, he just has to stop fighting at world/fringe world level.

If he stopped fighting opponents that are out of his league then it wouldn't look like he needed to retire.

It's not as if a bunch of low level journeymen have been laying him out.

True - Price isn’t the durable type.

There is no big dough in domestic boxing, and I am sure he won’t want to just be a stepping stone.

He has lost 5 times and all were knockouts - time for him to retire.

He should become a color commentator...He's proved to be a warrior, no need for any more permanent damage. IMO.

He'd be hard to match though. Since he first lost what's his best win? He seems to lose every time he makes a step up.

And last night was an odd one. He looked a lot more confident and badly shook Povetkin, and that won't appeal to domestic opposition.

I specifically named Hughie, Allen etc because they arent known as ko artists.
Against British and Commonwealth level opponents he should be able to hold his own...

He should stop stepping up then.

Is he a delusional egomaniac or something?

What's wrong with going through the levels and stepping up slowly?

If he brings the money then they'll still fight him.

He is dangerous, but the risk vs reward for fighting him is still there for most of them.

If he continues, he'll end up a test for young fighters and get really hurt...money won't mean a thing if the guy is brain damaged.

It's quite hard to discuss this without knowing what Price himself actually wants to achieve.

The difficulty for him is that he knocks over the standard low level opponents that keep him ticking over, but a step up to even fringe world level sees him beaten. Let's say he carries on, stops a few easy opponents then gets a fight with someone like Hughie Fury. If he wipes out Hughie what then? Are we back to square one where he's in with a Pulev/Parker type only to see him splattered?

Maybe if he stops trying to compete at world level he will stop getting splattered.

Lots of fighters would get destroyed at world level. It doesn't mean that they should all stop fighting.

Price needs to start fighting at his level, not way below it with the journeymen, then way above it with the likes of Povetkin.

This guy has a ko history and most definitely concussive type of syndrome. It's up to him and his family. IMO he should retire.

At least he would have picked up a fringe world level win against Hughie before stepping back up to world level again in that scenario.

He should never fight another low level journeyman in his career. They are totally worthless for him.

If he isn't fighting at least a top 200 ranked opponent then why is he even in the ring? To remind everyone that he still exists?

To be honest I think Price could beat Hughie Fury. Whats the size difference in the 2?

It easy to pick one or two fighters he can beat still doesn't stop the fact that continuing fighting is a hazardous to his non-boxing career for what to be something he already accomplished.

I think the problem for Price is that even at lower levels, he is quite likely to get knocked out. He spends too long standing in front of opponents with his hands down, that's why he got iced last night, add to that poor punch resistance, and really you've got a recipe for repeated knockouts.

If he wants to end up seriously damaged he's going the right way about it.

Time for him to realise that he's never gonna be a champ and to go on the doors or get a taxi license.

I was in the stadium last night and it was a sickening sight to see him knocked out so badly, time seemed to stand still as we waited for that left hook to land, the excitement he had brought beforehand was soon forgotten. He had that big right hand cocked from the start but just didn't want to throw it, as someone said earlier in the thread he has the 'yips' and I don't think he can overcome it at his age and at this stage of his career. During most of his interviews in the build up to this fight he talked himself down and seemed to be preparing to fail, he's just too nice for this sport.
