Wilder says he wants to kill an opponent

Post by Wales »

Deontay Wilder - disgraceful comments during a radio interview on Friday morning.

He was asked about having sympathy for his opponents....
“Nah, no dice. Like, I don’t wanna kill somebody for a few seconds”
Wilder turned to the co-host Angela Yee and continued

“I want a body on my record. I want one. I want one. I really do.”
Boxing needs characters and controversy, but that’s crossing the line.

tbh, everyone always says fighters must feel awful if theyve killed someone, but should we really be so sure?

often fighters are rough arrogant people and killing someone in the ring is a huge sign of profiency of there ability. of how devestating they can be.

of course a lot may come out and say they feel bad because thats what public standards require, but i dunno man, i really would be surprised if there werent who didnt feel proud about it or 'bigger' men in some way having done it

Wilder is the consummate sh1t talker, I doubt he means it but he should drop that kind of thing because if it happened he'd really regret saying that sort of stuff.

Wilder is in for a rude awakening when he actually fights a decent opponent.

I was worried about Stiverne his health when he fought Wilder actually, Povetkin could probably have killed him with his power.

I guess Wilder will get suspended by the WBC soon.
This guy:

Also got suspended, while he tweeted something much less painfull.

He's said it before and claims it's his Bronze Bomber alter-ego saying it.
Either way it's crass and he needs pulling up over it, it's a sport ffs.

I just heard Scott Westgarth saved about 7 lifes with his organs.

And I know that Wilder destroyed Povetkin his reputation and life purely for his own finances. Wilder basically destroys boxing as a sport for pretty much all boxers out there.
Wilder avoids all the guys in their prime and now he himself is in his prime and suddenly he wants to ignore all the B-options and skipp all the way to the champ.

A very stupid thing to say in a sport where people die.

Seems like the sort of thing you'd say if you were an idiot looking to cultivate a bad guy image. Largely because nobody really knows who you are.

Agree totally. Go take a look in prison and see if all people responsible for taking a life feel bad about it. And lets be honest, a hell of a lot of American boxers could have gone the other way and be that guy in prison

Well he is good because hes one of the top HW's. He was actually beating Wilder clearly and had him close to a stoppage too. Who else in the HW division is as good? Pevetkin? Fury?

Ortiz is a much tougher fight than Parker, just like i said even after Wilder KO him. Wilder deserves credit, AJ didn't want any of it.

I've always quite liked Wilder, he's a character and I'd be surprised if he actually means this. He's got a daughter who he dotes after so while he obviously has a nasty streak in the ring he obviously has a bit of compassion about him. That being said it's still a really idiotic statement to make and was probably done for shock value.

Or maybe I'm wrong and he's just a nasty big bastard? Who knows!

Having watched the video of the radio interview, I feel like it was just a poorly executed attempt at causing a stir and grabbing a bit of profile.
He stutters and stumbles around the idea of 'The Bronze Bomber isn't me, I can't control him' etc but it doesn't come across very well, it seems like he has forgotten his lines. He doesn't really say it with any malice, which could make it even more upsetting if its a serious, calculated statement, but to me it really didn't seem that way.
I imagine he has been watching clips of vintage Tyson and thought to himself 'that will get me some exposure' but didn't factor in that the world has moved on and he doesn't have the aura or mystique that Tyson did and can't benefit from his popularity making scandalous statements acceptable to the public.

Definitely a ridiculous comment to make. I assume he's just trying to sell tickets with it, but God forbid he ever actually DOES kill an opponent, and then has this comment already out there making it sound like he WANTED to do it. Wouldn't be good for him or the sport in general.
