Personally I think it's gonna happen but if not I'd like to see GGG fighting Jacobs II or Derevyanchenko.

I can see the fight happening in sept
For now I'd box someone else

If I was Golovkin's manager I would pay step aside money for Ryota Muratas opponent (Blandamura). He's probably not making more than a hundred grand in his fight in a couple of weeks anyways, and thats pennies compared to potential cinco de mayo pay off.
Then fight Murata on May 5th. Murata is probably the only top opponent out there who has been preparing for a fight and is in top shape. Also if they move quickly, that would give both GGG and Murata about a month for readjusting their prep for each other.
However I feel that people who are making the decision will get paid off and this fight will still be sanctioned, but will probably become a non-title bout, with Canelo getting banned only after the fight. Seems like a realistic corrupt nevada decision is incoming.

No need for step aside money. With NSAC hearing being just two weeks before the scheduled fight date, it is likely that the fight is not happening. Loefler must be actively working on finding a replacement opponent.

"In my opinion, the fight on May 5 has died. The hearing in Nevada is still pending , and then they moved it to the 18th (of April). I do not see how it could be saved for (them) to fight on May 5," Sulaiman told ESPN Deportes.

If it happens on short notice, I'm sure GGG's team can get someone in there with them that is pretty good. I remember when Johnson was injured they approached Korobov, but the IBF shoehorned in that awful guy that got schooled by Soliman.

this is pretty shambolic isnt it. how can either guy train properly with this shadow of doubt over the event.

I want to see it happen again I can’t imagine many big players behind the scenes will allow this to be postponed or even a new opponent

The fight is dead for Cinco de Mayo.
The knee-jerk NSAC, trying to appease the public, will suspend Canelo for maybe a year. But a suspension in boxing isn't what it's cracked up to be.
Remember, Tyson was banned for life by the same body. But he was back in business a year later.
Canelo gets his year suspension, it's cut in half (just like most prison sentences), it's retroactive to the testing dates, and voila---he's good to go for a September bout.
Meanwhile Chavez Jr. says he's anxious to step in against Golovkin on that May 5 date, but only at 168 lbs.
It would make sense. It would save a valuable date. Only a Mexican should headline on Cinco. And maybe, because of Chavez' presence, the fight could remain on PPV.
Otherwise, any Golovkin bout would probably be delayed until June (on regular HBO) to give promoters extra time to sell a matchup with some fighter totally unknown to the general public.
It would be an impossible task. Chavez Jr. is the way to go.

Here is a good option. The question is if Zurdo can be ready by May 5th.

The RING has today claimed that Tom Loeffler has made an offer to Mexican prospect Jamie Munguia for a middleweight title bout with Golovkin (if Canelo can't fight on the 5th May).boxing_rocks wrote: ↑02 Apr 2018, 18:42 Here is a good option. The question is if Zurdo can be ready by May 5th.

With the suspension it puts even a potential fight in more peril. GGG will more than likely move on.

I can't imagine Golovkin walking away from any rescheduled Canelo fight.
It's the only way he can make truly big money.

You may be right, but GGG isn't getting any younger and Canelo should be getting better, so I'm not too sure GGG has a lot of time to wait.SenorPipino wrote: ↑02 Apr 2018, 19:55 I can't imagine Golovkin walking away from any rescheduled Canelo fight.

But for his inability to make Golovkin even work up a sweat in the ring.

The smart money says he'll only have to wait until September. Just a 4 month delay.oogiebe wrote: ↑02 Apr 2018, 19:57You may be right, but GGG isn't getting any younger and Canelo should be getting better, so I'm not too sure GGG has a lot of time to wait.SenorPipino wrote: ↑02 Apr 2018, 19:55 I can't imagine Golovkin walking away from any rescheduled Canelo fight.

Well if Golovkin agreed to a fight at 168 (not likely, however) he would probably get an extended workout against Chavez. Maybe even 12 rounds of stay busy work.
And to be realistic, if the Golovkin camp expects the lucrative Canelo fight to be rescheduled for September, then they certainly wouldn't be looking for any high-risk bout in May or June.

This is even smarter money. A minor suspension to appease the handwringers who are going bananas over the infinitesimal clenbuterol results.
And the trace amounts in Canelo are consistent with eating tainted meat, so don't expect any lengthy suspension.
It's a slap on the wrist or NSAC is looking at a big time legal challenge.

Well in the grand scheme, that's good news, if what you say is correct, but it makes sense. I was looking forward to that fight. Now perhaps I can continue to do so! Gracias Senor!SenorPipino wrote: ↑02 Apr 2018, 20:26This is even smarter money. A minor suspension to appease the handwringers who are going bananas over the infinitesimal clenbuterol results.
