Erislandy Lara vs Jarrett Hurd

Post by handsofstone »

Super Welterweight unification this Saturday live on allegedly, Lara puts his WBA title on the line against unbeaten IBF champ Hurd, great match up and good to see another unification this week

TBH though as great as it is to see 2 champs unify I can definitely see this being a snoozer although not a cert, Lara is a fighter I'm just getting tired of watching, I used to be a fan as he's clearly skilled but he's just in sparring mode all the time, the last defence against Gausha was one of the worst fights ive seen, the quality of his defences is nowhere near the standard he was at before he became champ

Ive gotta take my hat off to Hurd, he's pretty basic especially early on and he was being made to look bang average against Harrison and Trout but he found a way to stop both guys, the Trout TKO was impressive, no one else has done that

Lara will probably make Hurd look like a plodder for the first 6 rounds I can see Lara being even more safety conscience than usual, its whether Hurd can make the breakthrough he has made in his last 2 fights, Lara is a better boxer than Harrison and Trout

If this is to be a good fight then we need Hurd to be able to hurt Lara who can be vulnerable when caught, if he cant then Lara will comfortably outbox for 12 near identical rounds, although Hurd nailing him late and leaving him desperate for the bell isn't out of the question

I'll go with Lara on points after a torrid last couple of rounds, probably be shite for the most part though

I only realised this fight was this week when I checked who was on the Truax vs Degale card, earlier today. From what I've seen of Jarrett Hurd, he's very limited. Reminds me personally of Zurdo Ramirez. But nonetheless, a good fight to make. I'll probably be switching between this, the UFC and the wrestling.

Lara's team keep saying "Oh yes, we have been working on making him more offensive, more exciting"
And I believe them. Except as soon as the bell goes, he is straight back into safety first boxing.
Hurd won't be able to catch Lara unless he gets tired later on, I might not be awake by then.
Let me know what happens
