Who is the next for Joseph Parker ?
Who is the next for Joseph Parker ?
What do you predict ? I don't think the rematch against Joshua is realistic.
Re: Who is the next for Joseph Parker ?
The fight against Joshua didn't take much from Parker, so he doesn't need much time to recover and he is ready for some another big fight. Considering the business among the top guys, I pick Ortiz. It can be interesting.
Re: Who is the next for Joseph Parker ?
Modern Boxing being what it is I wouldn't be surprised if Parker just didn't fight again the rest of the year.
If he does it'll be in Australia against an opponent that probably isn't too lively.

Re: Who is the next for Joseph Parker ?
Oh yeah it definitely would be "Meh"...I hope I'm wrong, and his next fight is against another contender no lower than the Top 15, but I don't look for that to be the case.
I figure at some point a fight between he and Junior Fa may be big in Australia or New Zealand, but Fa still needs to build his reputation as a Pro a little more.
I doubt they'd be rushing him into that fight just yet. Fa that is.
Re: Who is the next for Joseph Parker ?
Well he just had an “unofficial” draw against Joshua so I’d like to see him fighting Wilder next then rematch in New Zealand with Joshua for undisputed.

Wasn't a draw. Wasn't close to a draw. He lost the fight.

Re: Who is the next for Joseph Parker ?
I would like to see him face Ortiz. With the heavyweight division about to have a unified champion you have to keep active and face good opposition. he will probably go for an easier opponent though as he is still young and has plenty of time
Re: Who is the next for Joseph Parker ?
Instead of Parker, I would like to see Joshua, White, Miller, or Povetkin fight Ortiz.
Re: Who is the next for Joseph Parker ?
Sorry Val,
I don't like any of your opponent selection.
Miller is being saved so he can be fed to Joshua.
Del is too slow.
The Viking is done.
Ortiz would be all wrong style wise, but a possibility..
Kownacki.
Exciting matchup with two fast guys.

I doubt he'll fight again this year

Re: Who is the next for Joseph Parker ?
Out of the boxers listed I'd say Breazeale or Miller if he wanted to target a come back in the USA. Miller is still undefeated, despite a draw and Breazeale has won his two fights since losing to Joshua. A come back fight and a few wins in America could get things working towards a fight with Wilder if his talks with Joshua's team break down.
Otherwise, I could probably see him fighting someone with a high ranking from the Asia/Oceania area back in New Zealand for his come back fight.
Junlong Zhang (China, 19-0, WBA Oceania title), Lucas Browne (Australia, 25-1, Ranked #13-WBC),Kyotaro Fujimoto (Japan, 18-1 OPBF, WBA Asia Pacific title, ranked #6-WBO, #15-WBA), Zhilei Zhang (China/USA, 18-0, Ranked #8 - WBO)

Lucas Browne. Easy fight to make and it's a perfect confidence builder for Parker.
For Browne it gives him one last good pay day, and a chance at a one punch upset win.

Re: Who is the next for Joseph Parker ?
I think you have a legitimate gripe about the stats. Its like they (judges) didn't think any body shots landed. and if Joshua would have lost at least a couple of points for illegal blows, it would have been much closer, even in the UK. The ref was so horrible it makes me sick thinking about it. I think the better guy won though, even as ugly as it was. The ref should be banned from the ring.

A top 50 fighter at best. Very seldom does a champion who just lost goes right back to a top contender.
He is very young and a couple of decent but non threatening wins won't hurt him

Re: Who is the next for Joseph Parker ?
It might make sense to put Parker in a confidence builder that is not overly soft and has a decent risk-reward ratio. Something like Tomasz Adamek, Bermane Stiverne, Manuel Charr, Artur Szpilka, Eric Molina, Zhilei Zhang, or Kyotaro Fujimoto. I think, of the poll options, Helenius is easily the most plausible. Although, after Parker gets a confidence builder under his belt, it would be interesting to see him go after Breazeale.
Re: Who is the next for Joseph Parker ?
The numbers don't measure the force of the punches either though. The same amount of punches landed doesn't necessarily mean that all was even.
Also Compubox is kept track of by humans doing their best to monitor the stats. So it's not infallible.
Parker held his own with Joshua, and raised his stock in the fight in spite of the loss IMO. That's as good as he needed really. He's still a credible contender, and still ranks among the Top 5 of the division I'd say.
In fact...this fight probably did more for his reputation than any other up to this point. Prior to this fight people would've said "He's only Top 5 because he has a belt" well now he doesn't have the belt anymore, but I think most would say he's still genuinely a Top 5 guy in the division. I still certainly would say that.
Re: Who is the next for Joseph Parker ?
Any rematch with Joshua would be a forced mandatory.
Parker’s best bet is to try become mandatory

Re: Who is the next for Joseph Parker ?
Especially if he can become a WBC mandatory. He may well have a better shot at Wilder than he would at Joshua. Hard to say for sure, but considering the problems that Szpilka gave Wilder with his boxing it's not hard to believe that Parker could give Wilder even more problems...that being said Wilder has gotten better since the Szpilka fight, but can still be troubled by skilled boxers.

Umm... I hope not.tiny_acres wrote: ↑03 Apr 2018, 22:06 A top 50 fighter at best. Very seldom does a champion who just lost goes right back to a top contender.

He needs decent tests. I think this loss is going to motivate him.

Re: Who is the next for Joseph Parker ?
I fear Parker might have just got himself inducted into the "Who needs him club". As holder of the WBO belt he was seen as the easier target for someone in search of a world title, and therefore a desirable opponent.
Without the title he becomes a significant challenge, and the risk reward ratio has got turned on it's head. You can bet if you're Zhang from China (either of them) for example, then a Parker fight suddenly got a whole lot less appealing.
No way on Earth did Parker beat or draw with Joshua, but he acquitted himself very well and based on that perception, and that of Ortiz, Povetkin, and very likely Pulev, now well past their peak, I would have Parker third in the world behind Joshua and Wilder, now purely on merit rather than any hardware he might be sporting around his waist.
So, next fight? You up for it Del? (Chisora)

Re: Who is the next for Joseph Parker ?
Parker just got a minimum 20 mill dollars in Britain he's not going to go to America to fight for a fraction of that , he'll try to stay around Eddie Hearn that could mean he'll fight on Joshua's undercard his problem is he's had 2 boring fights here Vs Hughie Fury and AJ .
