Sparring partner compares power of Joshua, Wilder, Wlad
Anthony Joshua's sparring partner Richard Towers, claims Joshua hits nowhere near as hard as Deontay Wilder
https://www.express.co.uk/sport/boxing/ ... oxing-news
Richard Towers has been used as a sparring partner by the likes of Anthony Joshua, Deontay Wilder and Wladimir Klitschko, and Towers has revealed that Joshua “hits nowhere near as hard” as Wilder.
“Joshua is more an accumulation puncher,” Towers said.
“He hits hard, I can tell you that from experience.
“But what I can also tell you from experience is he hits nowhere near as hard as Deontay Wilder".

Nothing new here. Can't wait for fanboy replies. I used to follow Richie Towers early in his career. Stand up guy.

I don't think that's a surprise to anyone.
Single punch power appears obvious.
But I would not want to take a shot by any of the 3

Re: Sparring partner compares power of Joshua, Wilder, Wlad
interesting. may well be true as wilder hits with more speed which is shocking as well. ... but power isnt everything, maybe price is one of the most powerful also, but not a world class fighter for example.
Re: Sparring partner compares power of Joshua, Wilder, Wlad
where does he mention wlads power?
Re: Sparring partner compares power of Joshua, Wilder, Wlad
I always thought it was clear Wilder has the better one punch power but they're both more than capable of taking the other out so its not a case of who hits hardest. Probably more a case of who's dictating the fight and lands first. It'll probably be a bore much like the Ortiz fight was for the first few rounds as well. Has to happen next man!

Exactly what I thought. But interesting to hear it from someone qualified to give an objective opinion.

When Wilder lands one right hand clean, his fights are over.
Re: Sparring partner compares power of Joshua, Wilder, Wlad
not really, he landed loads clean in stiverne 1 but didnt score a stoppage or count, he hit duhaupas with loads for 11 rounds but didnt drop him, he landed clean on chinny molina but molina stuck around till 10, he was busting up arreola but fatty lasted until retiring on his stool after 8, ortiz got nailed with a big right then got up and almost stopped wilder , before fading and taken out late etc
even wilder, massive puncher that he is, regularly needs accumulation and tiring opponents. he like aj has not scored a stoppage or count in every fight. they both are serious hitters though id say wilders bigger, though i think ajs got an even bigger edge technically
id think aj would also brutally ko a guy like szpilka btw, probably well before 9

He carries that power late too, as we saw against Ortiz.TheLeprechaun wrote: ↑03 Apr 2018, 19:23 When Wilder lands one right hand clean, his fights are over.
Re: Sparring partner compares power of Joshua, Wilder, Wlad
hes a big ass puncher and most of his stoppages since having a belt are later on, not just vs ortiz.... round 11, 10 twice, round 9, round 8. won title by decision.
hes the best hw puncher but lets not stretch things with the first clean shot = instant ko stuff, thats obviously not true at all.

I don't think Joshua can take ONE clean right hand from Wilder. I think Wilder can probably weather a storm from Joshua, although he does look shaky. Joshua can't afford to make ONE MISTAKE vs Wilder though.Like a Boss wrote: ↑03 Apr 2018, 19:42He carries that power late too, as we saw against Ortiz.TheLeprechaun wrote: ↑03 Apr 2018, 19:23 When Wilder lands one right hand clean, his fights are over.

I have a memory of reading Murat Gassiev claiming that having sparred both, he thought that Wilder hit harder than Wlad. Make of that what you will - Wilder is the smaller man and would have been far less experienced at the time, maybe he had to go big to get MG's respect. Wlad on the other hand, giant with lots of experience, and experience of dealing with smaller and only moderately mobile opponents specifically, maybe didn't have to work so hard to get control of MG.
That's just a theory of course, and it's worth mentioning anyway I think.

I sort of get the feeling that Wlad would use sparring to work on things and wouldn't abuse his sparring partner whereas Wilder would try to smash them no matter whatHyacinthusTurnipseed wrote: ↑03 Apr 2018, 21:59 I have a memory of reading Murat Gassiev claiming that having sparred both, he thought that Wilder hit harder than Wlad. Of course there is a thought that Joshua doesn't try to take his sparring partners head off with every right hand he throws, where as Wilder can't do much else.

Re: Sparring partner compares power of Joshua, Wilder, Wlad
Wilder probably has the more explosive single shot bomb, but a great many of his punches are sloppy and I would imagine his power is inconsistent. While Joshua's better technique means he hits heavily with just about all his shots.
Both have the power to flatten the other.....but Wilder would have to land a humdinger right hand, whereas I think Joshua's jab has the potential to hurt Wilder. Wilder needs to land the right punch, Joshua just needs to be landing.
The danger with Wilder is you can be beating him up and pushing him around, but he only has to uncoil that right hand once correctly to win. The Ortiz fight is a good example with Wilder's big bombs landing against the run of play.

Re: Sparring partner compares power of Joshua, Wilder, Wlad
I get the feeling Wilder would be more likely to hit you full force in sparring than AJ too. So it could be a slightly misleading read that Towers got from them because for some reason I just get the feeling that Wilder would go harder in sparring, just a hunch.
That being said I don't doubt he hits harder anyway.

That's the problem with Wilder. He can be 11 rounds down and flatten his man in the 12th with one punch.
Joshua would get caught at some point for me. No doubt about it.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. I never take this stuff seriously.

If Joshua has Wilder in any hint of trouble, he finishes him 100%.TheLeprechaun wrote: ↑03 Apr 2018, 20:31I don't think Joshua can take ONE clean right hand from Wilder.
