Lara vs. Hurd / DeGale vs. Truax on allegedly - Who's watching?

Post by Ruthless-RKO »

It's live from 3am on allegedly..

Image

Erislandy Lara and Jarrett Hurd will top the bill in the US, meaning they are likely to be in action around 9pm local time in Las Vegas - or 5am in the UK. DeGale and Truax meanwhile will make their ring walks around 4am in the UK.

Based on the above statement, I take it they will show the eliminator fight; Julian Williams vs. Nathaniel Gallimore.

Fights likely to not be shown:

Sergio Mora vss Alfredo Angulo
Emmanuel Medina vss Saul Corral
Ahmed Majed Mahmood vss Sharone Carter
Xavier Martinez vss TBA
Ava Knight vss Mayela Perez

TBH, I was already going to watch Lara vs. Hurd, so DeGale vs. Truax being added to the card it added bonus. The first fight wasn't too bad, I expect this to be just as good.

I'm hoping the Lara fight is good and Hurd makes its a good fight..

So, who's watching?

Is that true what is being claimed in the boxing press - that Lara is Boxing longest reigning champion? Surely that isn't correct? He was an interim champion and didn't win a proper title until 2015.... GGG was claiming a version of the middleweight championship in 2010.

Probably incorrect.. GGG claimed the interim belt first too..

Probably just a way for them to build the fight..

Yeah, but he surely not even close to being that? I don't think he was any type of world champion until about 2012/2013 (I'm sure his first championship was on allegedly) - surely there have been longer reigning champions even if you could his very first interim title.

Even 2012 is long time mate, 6 years! Adonis won his WBC title in 2013.. GGG won the interim in 2010 and then promoted to Regular straight after.

Lara won the interim in 2013 and regular in 2014..

I thought he only won regular after losing to Alvarez.

Lara has been champion since December 2014. Off the top of my head a few names came to mind and turns out they've all held a belt longer than him.

Golovkin - December 2010
Rigondeaux - January 2012 (not sure if the WBA stripped him of his super-bantamweight belt when he fought Loma?)
Lebedev - December 2012
Stevenson - June 2013
McDonnell - May 2014
Inoue - April 2014 (although this included a jump in weight so there might have been a time in between when he didn't have a belt)
Lomachenko - June 2014

Nietes actually first won a title in 2007 and hasn't lost since but he has had non-title fights before challenging for a title at a new weight so not sure if he counts.

Rigo was stripped.

Inour won't count as it's not a continious title reign.

Lebedev has been stripped also, but has dibs on the winner of the WBSS.

Thought Lebedev still had a version of the WBA belt. Good that he's been stripped though.

Yup, just before Dorticos vs. Gassiev. WBA don't allow the regular champion to unify if there is already a 'super' champion, which was Lebedev. Because usually when a regular champion unifies, he becomes the 'super' champion..

Now this was in the way of WBSS giving us an undisputed champion at 200, because Dorts would have had to vacate.

Soooooo..WBA did a goo thing and made Lebedev 'champion in recess; and elevated Dorts from regular to full.

WBA then said, the winner would be mandated to fight Lebedev.

Bellew also has the opportunity to fight for the WBC belt at any time.

On the Hurd-Lara undercard former junior middleweight titlist Sergio Mora won a split decision over Alfredo Angulo in a very entertaining battle. Mora won 78-74 on two scorecards and Angulo got the nod 77-75 on the third.
