I live in a town in the middle of nowhere with a population of 800. If a fighter came into my town It would be a miracle

That's a bit of an odd mix of fighters, unless you live on a street where all its residents are hardcore boxing aficionados.

I wouldn't say that Povetkin, Fury and Wilder are particularly big names either.

Most Brits would know who Fury and Haye is, but I doubt that that those names are big in the US or Eastern Europe.

Similarly, I seriously doubt that any casuals from the west would know anything about Povetkin.

AJ is only a big name in the UK, he's not acquired global fame yet.

Wilder isn't considered a big name in the US either.

Apart from Joshua, and well...maybe McGregor (?!), possibly only Amir Khan and that's about it.

The days when a boxer like Ali could stop traffic have long gone. Even now Frank Bruno is better known than AJ, but that's down to the dwindling power of television.

UK TV only has Wimbledon and the World Cup/Olympics left. Once they go it will have even less of a relationship to being a public service than it does now. I guess we should all be thankful for YouTube for filling in.

EO, believe me or not, but Fury is very popular among the casual fans in Eastern Europe, Haye too..............

I'd say in my town the top 5 most likely to be recognised would be Joshua, Haye, Khan, Fury and Bellew.

Pacquiao maybe :maybe:

Other than that I don't think any of them would be recognized. Nobody where I live really knows Boxing.

I honestly don't think most would know him. At least not in the Small Town of Goldonna. Now if you to a few other nearing towns he'd be recognized by some people I figure, but not many.

Alright, I'll take your word for it.

Though I'm not entirely sure as to the reason why you believe that Fury and Haye are popular in Eastern Europe.

I am not a sociologist, and I did not make the research, but I live at fukcing Balkan, and one of the advantages (maybe the only one) over the Western Europe is our deep and intensive social relations. So, I have a very wide circle of friends and colleagues, we are discussing about boxing very often. Then, I following the media, the printed and the electronic, and big Fury's head could be seen almost every day (G. King and his wife, his children, his dad, his uncle, his neighbours, his fans, G. King himself, etc, etc....) He has a strange personality, but majority here, likes this kind of person. Should I mention his Instagram followers ? David Haye is popular here, but he is not beloved like Fury. He has been seen as the most dangerous Wlad's (I am speaking about Wlad in prime) opponent who had wasted his chance. Forgive me, my English is very bad, I had been learning English language forty years ago, and unfortunately, I had not been a dilligent pupil.

I'm from Rosario, Argentina. The only active fighter that would be recognized is Omar Narváez but not by anyone. Maybe Pacquiao. Everyone else can walk freely... It's so sad... I'm so lonely,😂😂

I’m English but don’t live in UK at the moment. I think of active boxers only Joshua, Mayweather, Haye and Fury would be recognised by a majority of British people. I think as fans we forget how marginal this sport we love has become, hardly any world champions would be recognised by the ‘man in the street’.

Tyrone Spong because he grew up here, but for all the others? I think nobody.
I know that Tyson Fury liked my country a lot because he didn't look that tall over here compared to everybody else and nobody knew who he was either.

Rico Verhoeven is probably the most famous fighter over here, but he doesn't box any more, he could become a top 10 contender actually if he wanted to.

Canelo, Chavez Jr, Pacquiao, Margarito, Maidana (maybe), GGG (maybe), Wilder (maybe, but only because of his height because there is NOBODY here as tall as 6'7")

Furys bought a house near us (20miles ish). During his time off he regularly drank in the local pub and mooched about town.

Hard not to recognise him. He’s something like 6ft 9 and often with his cousin Hughie who’s 6ft 7
