Historically, Where Would You Put the LARA/HURD Classic?

Post by caldo2025 »

I"m sure that I'll have a lot of people disagreeing with me on this one but I don't care. I call them like I see them and to me, Lara/Hurd is not only the fight of the year so far in 2018, I'm calling it the best fight since Ward/Gatti I in 2002. Maybe even better than that. It just may have been the best fight since Bowe/Holy in 1992 for some people and I'd have no problem with anyone claiming it.

I just thought that the fight was beautiful and one of those fights that still has me jazzed up thinking about it 4 days later. The heart that both guys showed and how deep each guy dug to get their hand raised was just a rare thing to witness. Not only was the fight not marred by a typical ref blunder or bad judging but the action was non stop from the opening bell. We saw beauty vs. brawn battle it out at it's finest and finally it was brawn that won out in the end by the tiniest of margins. How many times do we see a fighter need a knockdown in the 12th to get the win and actually GET IT in epic fashion? Oh, did I mention that it was also a title unification bout too?

Sorry. To me, this fight was GREAT in every sense of the word. Perhaps the fight needs more time for fans to give it proper consideration but to me, the fight is not nearly getting it's due. Name another fight that has delivered better with so much on the line.....try to anyway.

It wasn't that good.. I think it highly rated because Lara involved in such a good fight.. FOTY contender definitely.

You're going a bit overboard.. Like I said, it sounds like you've hardly seen any boxing fights.

It was ok, nothing that special. Hurd just walked forward all night throwing crude uppercuts and hooks.

There's a tonne of fights that are way better to watch.

Yes, and there weren't much drama in this fight. AJ vs Wlad was much better, hell even Brezeale vs Ugonoh was better fight in my opinion. Usyk vs Briedis also didn't contain much drama, but it was better fight than Hurd vs Lara.

Golovkin vs Alvarez was far more entertaining fight, but was overshadowed by bad scoring

Pretty damn good fight but hardly the best fight since 2002.

I thought Valdez-Quigg last month was much more physical and punishing.

Gassiev vs Dorticos is my favorite fight so far this year. I picked Dorticos to win but Gassiev kind of won me over with that fight. It also made me to appreciate Lebedev more. :geek:

Yip! Enjoyed the fight and it was good to see Lara come out his shell and fire back at the much bigger Hurd but some folk are going way over the top. Wasn't even the best fight this year IMO.

For the OP to compare it to Gatti/Ward is just fuckin absurd!

Technically Usyk v Breidis was better and for excitement the other semi with Gassiev and Dorticos was better IMO. Good fight though and I'd love to see a rematch next.

Wilder-Ortiz was more dramatic, including an ending that nearly decapitated the Cuban.

Not even close to the best fight this year. Usyk/Briedis was at a higher level and a better fight overall.

Obviously, just a bunch of Lara fans butt sore about the beating that Hurd put down on him. I know it's sad that you can't talk about Lara being a top P4P fighter now. It's the same thing that happened to all you dinks that preached how great Rigo was until he quit on his stool.

OH that's right, i forgot that we are only supposed to talk about Povetkin these days. My bad.

Did NOT compare it to Gatti/Ward...said it was the best SINCE Gatti/Ward. Which means....go ahead, i'll wait until you catch up....ready? which Means, Gatti and Ward was better in my opinion. Understand now or should i draw some pictures?

It was a good fight, and a good example of a how a bigger, stronger, younger pressure fighter can walk down and wear out a defensive master. It's looking like this is Hurd's specialty as a fighter.

I don't know where I'd rank it, but it'd be pretty damn far down the list. I've seen dozens of better fights.

That being said. Every single time you see a good, competitive fight, it's special and memorable to me. So I enjoyed it thoroughly even though I wouldn't be over the moon in my ranking of it's greatness.

It's definitely the #1 most exciting fight I've ever seen Erislandy Lara involved in I know that much.

You can draw a picture of a penis on your forehead if you like. That would be fitting. Even to say it's the best fight since then is even more absurd! It wasn't even the best fight this year and we're only in April you absolute Jiz stain

You can't watch much boxing if you think that's the best fight since Gatti/Ward which took place what? 15/16 years ago  Absolute horse dung
