Who on earth would anyone invest in this believing they’d get their money back, let alone a profitable return.

Sounds like a terrible investment opportumity.
Re: Barry McGuigan launches £5,000,000 boxer investment scheme
Don't like the sound of this at all.
If Barry had wanted to give a handful of promising fighters, let's say £25k each with the understanding that they would pay him back as soon as they worked their way up and when heavier cheques were coming in, then that is one thing.
But for a consortium of fatcat businessman taking a fighters money off of him that he's sorely earned does leave a foul taste in the mouth.
McGuigan's true colours are well and truly coming out now.

I don't really have any issue with this idea assuming that it isn't mis sold.
Obviously this isn't an investment opportunity, its a corporate hospitality purchase for people interested in boxing to take clients for a night out and act like Billy Big Banana introducing them to people at ringside.
There will be no shortage of boxers ready to sign up.

It I was a top prospect and I'd read this I'd give them a wide birth, especially with all the Frampton business going on, they are dreaming if the think the best talent will sign with them.

Well if it’s a corporate hospitality purchase then it’s been mis sold already....leejonesjnr wrote: ↑12 Apr 2018, 08:09 I don't really have any issue with this idea assuming that it isn't mis sold.

The article says ...
“The people who invest initially will then secure a cut of the career earnings of the punchers whom they have invested in. This cut would be from income generated by sponsorships and appearances rather than fight purses.“

Boxers who are likely to get actual money sponsorship and have people interested in listening to speak and sign gloves will be getting more attractive, more traditional offers.coneye wrote: ↑13 Apr 2018, 00:20Yes , can just see the conversation now ,, Barry , ... The vast majority of boxer sponsorship is a local builder paying for a pair of shorts or a local food prep giving them some pots of chicken and rice.
