David Price Will Continue Career
David Price has promised to continue his career, despite suffering a knockout defeat to Alexander Povetkin in Cardiff.
The British heavyweight raised hopes of a stunning upset when he staggered Povetkin at the end of the third round, but the Russian staged a fight-ending assault in the fifth that left Price requiring 40 stitches in his nose and mouth.
This latest setback has not discouraged Price, who remains passionate about the sport, and the 34-year-old will instead target a European title after testing himself against a former world champion.
"I'm excited to get back in there. I can't wait. Normally I have some time away from boxing after a fight but I want to get straight back into it this time. I've fallen back in love with it."
"I really want to say a huge 'thanks' to the support I've received before, during and after the fight. It has completely renewed my faith in boxing as a sport."
"Although I lost and got knocked out, I proved I can compete with elite fighters. Before the fight, I said I would carry on regardless and after it, I take the positives and will now go for the European title."
Price was frustrated that he could not produce a knockout blow of his own in the third, but has quickly shrugged off this latest setback in his career.
"That hook landed so cleanly. If the referee hadn't have given him a count I could have followed up my attack before the end of the round. They were small margins."
"The knockout won't have been nice for people to watch in the heat of the moment but I didn't mind watching it straight afterwards when I went backstage. For a long time, I couldn't watch Erkan Teper knocking me out but you grow as a person.."
"If a fighter quits just because they get knocked out, are they really a fighter? Getting knocked out is part of boxing and you have to accept that."

Thoughts on this?
Does he now go back to British?

Can he beat Hughie Fury?

Re: David Price Will Continue Career
so pricey will continue
if hes going for the euro....somehow kaybayel got a vacant title fight vs a pretty poor opponent. maybe price can somehow get something like that. legit euro level guys have been too much

I think he can beat Hughie. I dont think Fury has a big punch, but not really sure if Price could take any sort of shot to the chin.nitro5912 wrote: ↑13 Apr 2018, 07:43He can beat Hughie. I think he would KO Hughie aswellRuthless-RKO wrote: ↑13 Apr 2018, 07:34 Thoughts on this?

If Price can just beat someone with substance i see no reason to get it going with Hughie.
Price seems a nice enough fella but he wont progress to world level, he just hasnt the armour.

Shouldn’t be licensed in my opinion. All punch resistance has gone. This is dangerous.

I don’t like it, he seems too fragile now. Reminds me of Errol Christie.

At this stage i can't see him beating Hughie, too many miles on the clock now for me.
Re: David Price Will Continue Career
..Price seems to be delusional regarding his performance against Povetkin..going through his "analysis" of the last bout one might assume he has taken one too many blows to his head..
Re: David Price Will Continue Career
i get your point, but i mean, he did just give a count to a world top 5 hw, and hes still able to beat decent journeymen, its not like tom dallas where even tom little is blasting him outBlack Sam Bellamy wrote: ↑13 Apr 2018, 09:01 Shouldn’t be licensed in my opinion. I just find it annoying that he's aiming for European again. If he said he'll fight on at British level I wouldn't mind it so much. He's a danger to himself at anything above that level, sadly. Will end in another highlight reel KO

For me it’s no different to a Tom Dallas situation; albeit it’s being played out at a higher level. You wouldn’t really call Poverkin a massive puncher would you ? But he still flattened Price. These sorts of knockouts cannot being doing anything for his long term health.jamamb wrote: ↑13 Apr 2018, 10:14i get your point, but i mean, he did just give a count to a world top 5 hw, and hes still able to beat decent journeymen, its not like tom dallas where even tom little is blasting him outBlack Sam Bellamy wrote: ↑13 Apr 2018, 09:01 Shouldn’t be licensed in my opinion. Re: David Price Will Continue Career
No chin, no stamina, gun shy, no defence under pressure, plodding, slow.
Apart from that I see a great future for him.
He sounds deluded, almost like he has got used to being on the end of highlight reel KOs. Like it's part and parcel of it. He has a name and he is prepared to gamble his future for those last few paydays so it seems.
Let's have it right, against Povetkin he looked like a big stiff idiot against a real boxer. Povetkin outboxed him for the most part and got caught with one silly shot, which wobbled him. That was it.

5 KOs in his last 5 fights at Euro or fringe World level.
Only beaten some journeymen in between those 5 KOs in the last 5 years.
There's nothing to suggest he could even beat the best of British, nevermind anyone half decent in Europe or fringe world operators.
Just trading on his name for paydays now. He has to think about the long-term now, he seems to think he's getting away with it, but father time might be harsh to him when he's had his brain used as a highlight reel provider.

I was thinking Price against Cornish would be a start.

Anyone ever read Harry Crews' "The Knockout Artist"?
Re: David Price Will Continue Career
There are guys that have been knocked out WAY more times than David Price that continue on with their careers and people ain't throwing hissy fits when they sign another fight.
Let Pricey do what he wants.

Personally I only think he did 'ok' against Povetkin for a few rounds was purely on the size difference.

Re: David Price Will Continue Career
I don't think it's just to do with the knockdowns..Roy Jones was knocked down hard a few times, but he managed to still box well and go the distance with many fighters inc. Calzaghe, Hopkins, 10 rounds with Lebedev..
Price looks like a big lump in the ring and at times clueless. I was worried when he went 6 rounds with Kamil Sokolowskli (sp).. Got hit a few times there as well.
I don't mind him continuing, I think he can use his name and still do well domestically..

This is just dangerous and shouldn’t be allowed.
A combination of his wife, friends and management should be reining this idea in.
Having said that if I was a promoter, say Warren I would get straight on the phone and offer Price the Dubois fight for the 02 show.
It would generate morbid interest to see just how badly Dubois KO’s him. Price is basically a human crash test dummy sadly

All I’ll say is that I was at the Joshua-Parker event, and the Price-Povetkin fight was the most enjoyable fight on the card by miles.
Re: David Price Will Continue Career
I'll always root for Price. His resolute defence of Audley after the Wilder fight in the face of Richard 'BANTER' Keys and his graceless know-nothing tirade cemented his status as an all round good geezer. And every interview he does endorses that.
However I fear that the Povetkin fight has papered over the myriad cracks. He landed a good shot, that he didn't seem to have the instinct to follow up on, but other than that and remembering he has a jab against a 7 inch shorter man, he was always coming a fairly distant second. It's quite feasible that the kayo prevented him being impossibly exhausted again a couple of rounds later.
I'd prefer he quit. But I will still be glued to the screen and cheering for him. So maybe I need to take a look at myself.
I'm surprised Haye and Joyce haven't pursued him yet.
