worst unified champs

Post by jamamb »

just curious, who would you say some of the worst unified champs were

also, not necessarly the worst, but the fighters who beat the lowest level to become unified

these questions came to me after i saw david benavidez vs caleb truax discussed before degale won the ibf back. benavidez if he won that wouldve become unified wbc/ibf merely by beating ronald gavril and truax, with the better of that pair being a guy who was c+ level pretty much his whole career.

also i have to say indongdo looked truly awful in his fights after becoming unified. granted he fought crawford and prograis, two good fighters, but both times he looked like some wild man whod never boxed before and then caved as soon as touched.,

I thought that after.. when he beat Troy with 1 punch, I thought wow.. then realised he's not that big a puncher looking at his recors. He then beat Burns, because he was just awkward for 12 rounds. Admittingly, becoming Unified champion, he beat 2 well known boxers.. whether it was 1 punch against one of them.. credit were it's due. He dod what he had to do.

Like you said. His last 2 fights tell a different story of who/what he is..

This is a good question. Boxing of course has it's share of questionable "Champions" but not too often do those guys win more than one "World Championship"

Indongo really is one of the few occasions that come to mind of a guy that doesn't seem overly impressive that did. I'm sure there's gotta be some other examples we're forgetting though.

Not now obviously...but aj beat Martin and then beat a fighter who lost his previous fight and had been active to win 2 belts.

And both of them made more money in that one single fight as other beltholders do in 40, because everybody knew that that fight would be the fight of the year and so it became.

Is it harsh on Ricardo Mayorga to mention him here? Also, Giovanni Segura, if he counts.
