Pro trainer allowed in semi pros?

Post by Wales »

Under BBBOC rules can a pro trainer / coach do the same role in the semi pro scene? I know it’s frowned upon/ disallowed for a pro trainer to donsamenrole in amateur scene, but is it same in semi pro scene ??

It’s not allowed for any license holder to be involved in any unlicensed boxing of any kind but it happens a lot

There are at least 3 license holders who run their own unlicensed organisations and titles

It’s not unlicensed either, as many are licenced just not by the BBBOC

Who cares what it’s referred to anyway

This is what I can’t understand

I’m seeing some fookin terrible “dont refer to them as semi pro” fighters turning pro because their trainer has somehow got a BBBOC trainers licence ....

You fibber.
That has literally never happened, the whole reason that it annoys people is because the whole terminology is designed to take advantage of how little people know about boxing.

It happened mate and not to long ago. Unlicensed has quite a few shows where I am and me and me barber was talking about boxing and this other man had been to a show and came out with that to me.

Technically the terminology is true as when you don’t get paid yiure an amateur . When you get paid but it’s not your profession you’re semi pro.

As far as “good enough” comment goes. If youve boxed 10 fights as a senior amateur and won more than half you’re good enough to beat 75% of semi pros .
I’m going to stick my neck on the line here and say over the next 5 years far more senior amateur boxers will go semi-pro than stay amateur or go pro.

Never heard of a semi pro boxer, its pro, amateur, unlicences or just white collar. No such thing as semi pro imho but to answer your question from what iv heard, you cant corner an unlicenced event if you are badged by bbb of c

Thanks all. Interesting as the coach I know that’s licenced by BBBOC believes he can do both and claims BBBOC don’t have issue with it

Interesting comments as I , like you guys believed anyone licenced by BBBOC can’t dabble in the semi pro, unlicensed , whatever scene

May only a matter of time until his Area Council find out - given the amount of internet coverage of all kinds of shows these days, it's usually very easy to find footage or photos of people working in corners at non-BBBofC shows (based on research on one of these kind of cases previously).

I’m perfectly happy to accept that there is, it just happens that I know of three license holders running unlicensed organisations, no idea how many more there may be.

I guess some boards turn a bit of a blind eye.
Most trainers need to earn a living outside of the pro game too.
