Two recent fights have highlighted an inconsistency between the official announcements in the ring and the documented result in the Boxrec database.
Result in database:
Spence vs Peterson - Spence wins RTD7
Uzcategui vs Dirrell - Uzcategui wins RTD8
In both fights the referee called an end to the fight after the bell rang to begin the next round. For Peterson, the bell to begin round 8 rang, the referee acknowledged the corner’s request to stop the fight, and then the fight was stopped. For Dirrell, the same scenario, except the bell rang to begin round 9 before the fight was stopped.
The ring announcer declared the time of the fights as:
0:01 of round 8 for Spence
0:02 of round 9 for Uzcategui
I understand the need for consistency on Boxrec with multiple boxing commissions in multiple countries, where traditions may differ regarding the stoppage of a fight. A retiring fighter between rounds in Mexico will receive a 10 count to start the next round, which isn’t necessarily a reason to call the stoppage in that round. However, the two examples above should not be treated the same and I believe the official announcement from the commission should be the documented result in the database.
Agree? Disagree?
Fights that are stopped before action begins in a round

Add another one to the list:
Sam Bowen - Maxi Hughes
Officially stopped at 0:02 of Round 8, recorded as RTD7, time 3:00

The official result is definitely the thing to note.
That being said to me RTD 7 or whatever was the final completed round seems the correct way to describe these results.

Damn you Gilgamesh!!!! ...he's right...you don't say retired before round 8. It's the 7th round until the bell rings. The 0:02 of the following round example sounds strange.
Re: Fights that are stopped before action begins in a round
Now an editor has changed the result to Bowen win by TKO 8
Re: Fights that are stopped before action begins in a round
i wonder why the editor changed it, i thought the policy whether right or wrong was the rtd at the end of the previous round
Re: Fights that are stopped before action begins in a round
If you retire after a round, that round should be the recorded round where you got stopped... Nobody saw any action in the next round so the next round didn't happen... Why should it be recorded as if it did? The punishment your opponent delivered in the just completed round caused you to quit, and that round was fought and did see action.

Re: Fights that are stopped before action begins in a round
What happens in a case of a bettering in lets say round 3. The bell ends the round. The cornermen are tending to their man and the time keeper says seconds out round 4. But the guy does not get off the stool.Kalan wrote: ↑15 Apr 2018, 03:20 If you retire after a round, that round should be the recorded round where you got stopped... Is that then a retirement in round 4 or round 3?

The latest addition to the list is the May 19 fight between Jason Moloney and Kohei Kono: http://boxrec.com/en/event/767250
The result in the database is TKO6 and a note is listed saying "Bout stopped on doctor's advice due to cut over Kono's left eye. Stoppage time announed as one second of the seventh round".
This ruling is now inconsistent with the Sam Bowen - Maxi Hughes ruling http://boxrec.com/en/event/765571 which was TKO8, and a note saying "A time out was called by referee Mr Loughlin after the bell to begin the 8th round had rung and the bout was duly halted following a doctors inspection of Maxi's right eye which had become badly swollen"
