David Price Will Continue Career
Re: David Price Will Continue Career
Up until the KO he looked decent against Povetkin, maybe needs to be operating just at a step below that. And it's not like Povetkin isn't a hitter, over 20 KO's I think. so not that bad for Price to be stopped by him. BUT it was a heavy KO & going forwards I wouldn't want to see him going through many more of those or he'll end up paying a heavy price (pardon the pun).
But with the current excitement behind Heavyweight boxing I can understand his desire to box on & there are some options for him still. I think a fight with Hughie makes a lot of sense & if he looks good he might even finally bag that elusive fight with Tyson.

He got a raw deal against Povetkin, the fight was stopped too soon. You’ve got to give a guy a chance to fight on in big fights like that.

kaybayel won the vacant ebu with this guy, herve hubreux
if price can get that type of fight, i think he can win a euro. if he goes against a legit ebu level fighter were just back to the way things have been.

povetkin is one of the best punchers in the division. have you seen his highlight reel?Black Sam Bellamy wrote: ↑13 Apr 2018, 10:38For me it’s no different to a Tom Dallas situation; albeit it’s being played out at a higher level. You wouldn’t really call Poverkin a massive puncher would you ? But he still flattened Price. These sorts of knockouts cannot being doing anything for his long term health.jamamb wrote: ↑13 Apr 2018, 10:14i get your point, but i mean, he did just give a count to a world top 5 hw, and hes still able to beat decent journeymen, its not like tom dallas where even tom little is blasting him outBlack Sam Bellamy wrote: ↑13 Apr 2018, 09:01 Shouldn’t be licensed in my opinion. All punch resistance has gone. This is dangerous.
he laid out takam and duhaupas when both guys ended standing vs takam/wilder. granted maybe he hit harder a few years back, his power is still to be taken seriously even at the highest level.
admittedly guys like thompson and hammer werent major punchers though. but he dropped both of these guys and wasnt just totally helplessly blitzed. he hasnt won at ebu or world level, but hes had moments there consistently and can still win when matched lower down
there are lots of fighters who are much more overmatched regularly, but they just dont get the same attention. now i do get your point, because he has been taking these kos, but i think with him there is some justification for going on.

Re: David Price Will Continue Career
The weird thing is, vs Povetkin price seemed back to his best, he actually had some desire and committed to his punches.
He just could never hold a shot or fight at any sort of pace before unravelling.
Every single time he steps into the ring he is relying on landing a fight ending punch, early. But we’ve seen a few times now, in thompson II, hammer, and Povetkin, that even when he lands his Sunday punch, they get up, and he simply doesn’t have it in him to finish the job.
On that performance anyone with some punch resistance and stamina would stop him, regardless of how hard they hit. Hell, I would back Malik Scott to stop him at this point.
We could easily see a hide/chingangu scenario too, where a journeyman manages to hang around long enough to take a swing.

Re: David Price Will Continue Career
He needs a fairly decent win soon if he is to continue.
His last decent win was against Sexton. Since then it’s been no hopers on his win record.
Drop back, get a couple of decent wins and then go from there.
He should be calling out Tyson Fury otherwise. On paper it makes perfect sense. Povetkin is ranked in the top 3, he just had a keep busy against Price. In theory, after Fury beats a nobody in June, Price would be ideal as a measuring stick. Would sell tickets too

A fight with Fury makes sense. Fury needs a comeback opponent and Price was the last Brit to beat him. Plus Fury isn't a big puncher so Price's delicate chin should be ok.

Plus it’s a good comparison after the Povetkin/Price fight
Re: David Price Will Continue Career
I have to admit waiting around for a Fury fight would probably be the smartest thing to do. Although these repeated very heavy, lifeless on the canvas for minutes KOs are more than reason enough to retire/have license suspended at least pending some neurological tests.
If Price gets splattered against his next East European import and hospitalised the BBBofC will have some explaining to do if they suggest no-one could see it coming.
@jamamb
Who are some of the boxers that are consistently KO'd cold/smashing their heads on the canvas as they go down/need oxygen in the ring etc time after time but still licenced? Are they British? I'd be concerned about them continuing too.

Re: David Price Will Continue Career
price has been stopped on his feet in 3 of the losses, stop with the hyperbole
he wasnt out cold either
someone like dave howe or aj carter is more of a problem, plenty of others getting banged around worse too

Re: David Price Will Continue Career
Price's comment about the 8 count was a bit silly seeing as Price should have jumped on him instinctively...he didn't.
Plus I think Pov was off balance as much as totally discombobulated.
however, Price can make money still.
He can beat most of the Brits Hughie Fury, Dave Allen etc
At Euro level he can possibly beat a few. Maybe not the likes of Kabayal who aren't anything special but WILL land.
personally i'd love Price in a new Prizefighter tourney again

Hughie Fury would easily beat David Price though in my opinion. Far better boxer and easily durable enough to cope with any of Price's power punches.

Both of those statements are true. But Fury is definitely a big enough puncher to stop Price.Controversial wrote: ↑15 Apr 2018, 11:08What bit, that Fury isn't a big puncher or that Price has a delicate chin?

Sure I didn’t mean he couldn’t stop him but he’s unlikely to blast him out quickly, it could make for a decent match up. I’d still fancy Fury to win but one big punch from Price could make it interesting.Boxerbeetle wrote: ↑15 Apr 2018, 11:16Both of those statements are true. I think he knows he’s one big win away from what could be a million pound pay day (or thereabouts) and he wants it!
Don’t blame him myself. His punch resistance hasn’t worsened, it’s the same as before. He still has huge power as well.
Is it dangerous and will it be frightening viewing for his family, friends and suppprters, yes!

Re: David Price Will Continue Career
He's been bounced off the canvas in 2 of his 3 most recent losses too. I didn't suggest he was knocked at cold but he is well acquainted with concussion.
I don't remember seeing any of Dave Howe's KO losses but I've just looked at his record. Let's say he was KO'd cold twice last year has been KO'd cold twice so far this year I would say that there should be a point at which the amount of damage brings about an intervention.
Was anyone really shocked by how Price just froze after taking a hard shot before the finishing left hook? I wouldn't think so because after a few KOs the way boxers react to heavy shots rarely improves.
