Wanheng Menayothin to break Floyd Mayweather's 50-0 record in 2018?

Post by Enlightened-One »

The current WBC world minimumweight champion, Wanheng Menayothin (aka Chayaphon Moonsri), who has engaged in nine world title bouts, is currently on course during 2018 to equal or possibly break Floyd Mayweather Jr’s 50-0 record for a world champion fighter to retire with an undefeated record of 50–0.

He’s already matched Rocky Marciano’s legendary 49-0-0 mark, which was a feat he accomplished just over a month ago.

Even though he may technically surpass Money May’s 50-0, it’s important to note that his resume isn’t that impressive, especially if you review the calibre of his last two opponents:

• Tatsuya Fukuhara had only won 7 of his most recent 13 bouts and had even lost a fight immediately preceding facing Wanheng
• Jack Amisa had only won 21 of his 67 fights, having tasted defeat 44 times... with only two wins since 2008 (or two victories in his last 41 bouts)

Thoughts?

He needs to fight Knockout CP!

His resume is crap.

I think it's with a lot of Thai boxers, they tend to have fights every month. He'll have 5-6 fights a year, 2 of them being world title defences and the rest against guys who had 3 times more losses than wins.

It's common with a lot of other Thai boxers.

Sor Rungvisai has similar resume. lots of fights, but majority against nobodies.

Knockout CP Freshmart with 3x less opponents has a much better resume, I really would like to see him vs Wanheng.

In case it doesn't happen, Wanheng losses to Hiroto Kyoguchi.

Thai and filipino fighters fight regularly because they need to, it's a no brainer for them to have soft fights to get paid. Some fighters pad there record and are crap, others pad there records and are very good fighters.

Menayhothin's resume is crap. He fights nobodies inbetween fights. Like I said before Knockout CP has a better resume with 3x less fights.

Records are records I guess.. Most get to this stage and lose.

pretty much all thais, even the excellent ones, have done the 'bum between serious opponent' thing

menayothins resume is historically nothing, but hes probably top 5 still in his division, a weak division admittedly. though hes been looking extra prone to a loss lately imo.

even if he gets to 51-0 and beyond i doubt he stays with a 100 percent winning rate, and thats ultimately the notable thing. otherwise floyd being 50-0 would be a 'record'. chavez was like 85-0, pep was 62-0, but they lost in the end and hence those marks get not much attention

87-0

Willie Pep went something like 61 or 62-0 as well, and I'm sure there's a few more I can't remember off the top of my head.

But apparently, if you lose after getting that high, it doesn't count and 50-0 then becomes more impressive... Go figure.

Anyway, it's really about who you beat, not how many you beat. Numbers on their own don't mean a lot.

Ricardo Lopez holds the record as a champion to retire with the best undefeated record of 51-0-1.

It just goes to show how pointless boxing records are. Even guys like Floyd have at least 10 guys on there who had no business fighting him. Wanheng will probably lose eventually though, and even if he is 100-1 he still will be considered to have failed to break Floyd's record because its only actually a record because it requires you to retire undefeated. Thats not a luxury Thais have.

It is a very good resume in the scheme of things, hardly any boxers ever defeat 17 top 50 opponents, but it is littered with meaningless interim fights that the Thai's often have. FM in comparison has the best statistical resume in 29 years and probably best ever.

Easy work for him today, but his only best/toughest fight still was vs Saul Juarez. I would like to see him vs Knockout CP Freshmart (unless they are partners) to prove who is the man in the category and country or vs Hiroto Kyoguchi in Japan, because in Thailand is easy, he has to do like Wisaksil Wangek and fight in any place for world title or to defend it.
