Dave Allen is a likeable guy building a decent fan base so will get the opportunities to box on big shows and pick up a number of belts. If Joyce picks up Commonwealth then Dave Allen is more likely to collect some International and Inter Continental type titles.
I don't get why he doesn't fight for an area title, then say the English?

I'd argue there's more prestige, recognition and history in those belts than some nothing alphabet inter-continental title!?

Clear points win for Joyce. He's make very fast progress and is in a different league to the Dave Allen's of this world.

I don't place much value in the commonwealth belt, though to be fighting for it in your 4th fight is decent. And fighting Lenroy is decent as well.
Im hoping Joyce dosent blast him out early and gets some rounds in. This can be a very good opportunity to learn the pro (3+ round) game.
While I don't care about Haye/Bellew, this is shaping up to be a card I now want to watch :box:

Yeah, me too. the only thing I see here is another decent match to watch. The card is filling out nicely. One more and I'm sure to watch. Joyce better get moving before he goes gray.

you cant believe that a 3 fight novice is fighting for a commonwealth title. If joyce wins this were will he move on from it? Could he realistically be fighting for a version of a world title within 10 fights?

Joe Joyce vs. Agit Kabayel?
Joe Joyce vs. Manuel Charr?

I can see them fights happening in the near future if Haye has the money to make them happen...

Not sure that this fight would be for the Commonwealth title, their website has the Sexton/Fury fight as an eliminator bout and I don’t think Joyce is even in their ratings - although that could easily be worked out I suppose...

Yes I noticed the advert in this thread called it a 12 round contest vs the commonwealth champion.

Joyce could have a world ranking of about 20 after 4 fights. Its a bit crazy that a novice can be granted a title shot even though its only commonwealth.

It's probably a good thing that Joyce signs with someone like Haye where Haye can put all his focus into him as opposed to someone like allegedly who would have Joyce fighting WBO ranked journeymen until that WBO title becomes vacant in 2025 or Eddie Hearn where he'd be way down the pecking order in terms of priority.

number of fights are overrated when it comes to ones cv, a lot of guys who fight for the commonwealth havent done anything much better then stop lewison

if joyce added 17 wins vs absolute cans to be 20-0 would he really have much more value to his record? not really imo, but i doubt then the question of him having deserved a shot would even appear

thomas is a good opponent and there should be another AT LEAST slightly better not long after. if he wins at that pace he can be top 50 or higher with less then a full year pro, which sets him up for a jump to euro level and the top 25 the next year

id like to see joyce with a guy like szpilka, rudenko, or mansour by no later then early 2019

someone like rob helenius too would be good to fight along with one of those guys

something like thomas, then rudenko, then helenius , etc..

of course it depends which belts/orgs they go for, and of course if he actually wins lol

Presumably the weird wording around the contest is because they are trying to get it sanctioned for the commonwealth title but if they can’t it will go ahead anyway and the title will become vacant if Thomas loses.

Can't think of anyone tbh. Josh Taylor won it early in his 6th or 7th fight but that's as close as I can remember.

I was gutted Allen got cut in the rematch with Thomas in March, I had a feeling Allen was gonna finally put in a decent performance against a solid opponent but it wasn't to be, Joyce's last fight wasn't much better, that Palmer was morbidly obese and it was no surprise Joyce done him in a round

I can see Joyce doing the same to Thomas TBF, I suppose theres a chance Thomas can give him rounds but I reckon Joyce will have him out of there in 3

Thomas is decent but he's painfully slow!
