Byrd got KTFO!
It was in the 7th, he was floored earlier in the fight and never recovered. Well, never got into it at all really...

Refreshing to see a fight not go the distance.

Round 1 was even, but after that Klitschko won every round (IMO). Byrd was down in round 5 and he got such a beating in that round I gave it 10-7 to Klitschko, Byrd recovered well in round 6 but after half a min in round 7 Byrd was knocked down again, he got up but the american referee stopped it (There were an american referee, 2 american judges and a british judge)

I had Byrd barely taking the first round as well on landed punch output. After that he lost badly though. He run out of answers during the second after Wlad rocked him with a right cross. The power surprised Byrd; he didnt think Wlad got so much stronger since last time.

having spoken to byrd he was well aware that wlad hits a lot harder than most of them. harder than vitali for sure. so the power was no surprise, just the ease that wlad landed that was a surprise.

just pleased byrd was ok, he took lots of shots and was very brave.

all in all i was impressed with his performance, although we all know there was nothing coming back at him, and that is the only time wladimir looks vulnerable.

but he punches very correctly and very hard. emmanuel steward seems to have done a good job with him and perhaps, just perhaps, wlad is maturing at 30. he certainly is the most stylish of the current heavyweights and is my personal favourite.

id like to see him in with valuev, as i think wladimir would KO him. not sure there is too much out there in the division to be honest, brewster was my favourite but his reign has ended plus his eye injury etc.

tye fields is another one on the periphery, shannon briggs too.

just a quick hats off to chris byrd too, ive met the man and he is a very nice humble man. he has been a good champ and someone who was not afraid to get in the with bigger guys. his CV shows this. just a shame that byrd lacked KO power. but after all he was a super middle once. byrd also maintained his physique as he grew.....shame toney didnt. i hope that byrd calls it a day.

all in all, apart from the slight mix up and the flitting from fight to fight, i was impressed with setantas coverage for a tenner. its a decent price for a PPV. the germans certainly know how to put on a show. it was very polished indeed. and the action was non stop. we were not bored with hour after hour of repetetive studio work. and not the constant promise of....'lewis v 'x'' coming up after the break !!! (3 hours later)....

The Colonel Bob Sheridan did a good job too, always been a fan of his work on the radio. in my opinion he certainley knows his stuff and keeps the viewer/listener interested. well done setanta.

After two minutes of the fourth round the fight cut off and went back to the Timo Hoffman fight!

I was told by Setanta they were showing the whole card, this obviously didn't happen!

It was a shame about the Kenna situation, but overall I enjoyed the PPV. If Sebastian Sylvester wasn't quite so calculating and just fought with a bit more instinct, I think he could beat anyone a Middleweight.... He looked good.

So did Povetkin, he had some nice moves and looked the experienced one vs Friday.

Byrd really didn't have a clue against this style, I scored everything for Klitchsko (and scored Round 5 10-7). My one concern for Wlad was that I saw him mouth open and punches were losing some snap towards the end of the round. He had recovered by round 6, but I do think big style pressure could see him fold ala Brewster.

I do have to disagree with Rhino's view on the Colonel... The only commentary I enjoyed him in was Ali vs Foreman, and that was primarily because there were 2 other guys involved in that commentary. He talks far too much and clearly seemed bias towards Byrd.

He said Byrd was doing a good job at the end of the third, What?. You could see at the end of the first there was only one winner.

I think I heard him call Byrd a great champion, I disagree with that.

Said that Byrd was dictating the pace, What fight was this then, all Byrd did was occasionally parry the jab and try and land a body shot.

Also, he didn't seem to notice that Sebastian Sylvester was clearly hurting Bendall with every shot... Again, even though I scored it the same as him (with Bendall winning the first) - I thought by the end of the first this is not going to see the 6th round.

He talks far too much and doesn't let the action to the talking and he does like to mention how many world title fights he has commentated on.

Fair play though, he is knowledgable with his stats and he doesn't do any name cock ups (unlike a fair few of the ones we are used to seeing here) but he isn't my cup of tea cause he simply talks too much.

He did actually.... I noticed that.

I suppose you cannot blame him alot for getting the English and British title confused. Most yanks get the two confused anyway.

Incidently, did anyone else think we might have witness TWO of the future stars of the Heavyweight devision... Povetkin AND Platov.

On your previous post, I suppose it was actually GREAT coverage if you are a Colin Kenna fan.... You can always still think that Kenna turned it around.

Platov has 18 KO's in 21 starts (1 defeat) is younger and has a bigger natural frame than Povetkin.

Kenna got stopped in the 6th BTW for people who didn't know the result.

I agree stu, but I would also add Boystov (spelling?) to that list as well. Of course all three still have various question marks over them but so far, so good. Platov looks a real, rough, tough guy who may well turn out to be e real handfull and crown pleaser.

Povetkin looks good taking on a fighter like Ahunanya so soon, take note A-Force. Very refreshing.

What did everyone think of Andy Lee? I thought he looked good for a novice professional, you could tell by the way he was throwing his shots he has spent time in The Kronk Gym, that's for sure.

As for Byrd I thought he showed a lot of heart during the fight and class after it. Byrd has always struck me as one of lifes good guys and I wish him well in the future. I hope he retires though as I feel he has nothing left to prove and is on the slide anyway. Also did anyone elso notice Byrds son congratulate Wlad? Nice gesture I thought.

Yes I think the poor kid was crying too. Such a class act the Byrd family - really wanted to see him win this, or at least put on a good show: the size difference made it look like a complete mismatch....as it turned out to be.

As expected it was the prefect match for Wlad - you're not gonna a beat a giant like that when all you're carrying is a pea shooter.

He was knackered after trying to blow away Byrd in the 5th, but got his 2nd wind back ok.

Watched the ARD broadcast.

I noticed that aswell, the only time I actually thought Byrd could win this was actually in that 5th. I was having visions of Brewster vs Wlad.

Byrd was classy throughout in the build up and post fight. I hope he is financially sound and doesn't return (or at least doesn't return as a Heavyweight).

Although, I do think perhaps he might have done better with a different corner... He was telling his old man what to do at times.

As for Andy Lee, impressive - I do think early question marks over his power could be raised. He's gone 11 rounds in two scheduled 6 rounders. Shouldn't he be bowling them over at this stage?

I was impressed with him as an amateur and so far I like how he is going about his pro career, by working in Kronk and getting American sparring and fights. My only concern thus far is his power.

Thats why Steward was keeping him calm to take his time so he didn't make the mistake of what happened in the Brewster fight trying to just end it because he was easily winning. Yet crazy Klitschko fans bring up drug conspiracies.

Why has Steward got Wlad to constantly hold fighters when they get too close too? It was only Byrd who can't hit. Lewis leaned on guys on the inside but he didn't hold them like Wlad is doing now.

Yeah the whole Byrd family congradulated Wlad.

I thought Platov was pretty shit to be honest. Kenna's belly was hanging out asking for a body attack and I never once saw Platov try to hit it during the entire fight. He just loaded up on single head shots
