Charles Martin's WBC Ranking?
Charles Martin last fought on the 18th July, 2017 against a journeyman type opponent that had only managed to score two victories during his previous ten bouts.
He was rated 12th by the WBC on the 29th July. However, despite remaining inactive since that date, he’s slowly risen up the rankings. He was in 10th spot during September of last year and elevated this month to 9th place.
Does anyone understand the reason why some fighters that choose to remain inactive for nine months or so continue to climb the rankings?

Re: Charles Martin's WBC Ranking?
It's certainly not unusual for the rankings of any sanctioning body to be full of question marks.
Re: Charles Martin's WBC Ranking?
You can easily move up with others becoming inactive, retiring, changing divisions or losing fights.
It is the reason why dead fighters move up! I think every sanctioning body have done this at some stage.
It is the reason why many fighters just tread water to keep in the top 15, that way they are always in the mix for a big fight. The Ali act tried to implement compliance where a boxer should face a top 15 fighter in an 18 month period.

Re: Charles Martin's WBC Ranking?
I understand the process of elimination logic, but I feel a fighter's ranking should erode due to inactivity, especially if they don't even have a fight lined up, instead in Martin's case it's actually rising.Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑17 Apr 2018, 10:11 The ones above him lost? You're right though, the WBC probably want to keep him in the mix.

You shouldn't put much stock into the IBF, WBA, WBC,or the WBO rankings. They are ignorant, bias , incompetent, or downright corrupt. Heck, they won't even acknowledge another bodies #1 ranked fighter! The only true rankings ( at least in the heavyweight division ) is the HeavyHitters ranking:
1. Deontay Wilder
2. Anthony Joshua
3. Luis Ortiz
4. Joseph Parker
5. Alexander Povetkin
6. Jarrell Miller
7. Dillian Whyte
8. Kubrat Pulev
9. Daniel Dubois
10. Dominic Breazeale ( or perhaps Tom Schwarz )
Left out: Tyson Fury. Once he does return to the ring, his next performance will determine where to rank him in the top 10, or not.

HeavyHitters has spoken ...en...en...en...(echo)....Not a bad rating list! Agree on Fury! Dubois a bit early IMHO.HeavyHitters wrote: ↑17 Apr 2018, 12:59 You shouldn't put much stock into the IBF, WBA, WBC,or the WBO rankings. They are ignorant, bias , incompetent, or downright corrupt. Re: Charles Martin's WBC Ranking?
I know. I'm a bit biased on Dubois. I'll admit to that.
But only because "I DO" think he will be one of the next heavyweight champions at some point. He reminds me too much of a young Riddick Bowe ( but hopefully will be more disciplined than "Big Daddy" was ).

No way should Dubois rate above Breazeale in any ranking atm.

Okay, I looked at it gain, and for right now, you are right.
DB does deserve to be placed over DD, as far as what he has done in the ring so far. But if I had to put money on it, I'd go with DD over DB if they were to fight in a year or so. DB is just too slow and cumbersome for a dynamic puncher like DD.

Re: Charles Martin's WBC Ranking?
Dubois ruins your ranking he is not ready yet. Should not be in the top 100 yet let alone top 10, but he does look as though he might may the top 10 in a few years. Wilder over Joshua can only be a very subjective opinion. I still think Povetkin is 2 but he is certainly past his best.

Re: Charles Martin's WBC Ranking?
I don't know that the Martin situation is unique. How Stiverne got his #1 contender ranking after losing to Wilder and being inactive still baffles me. And you can't say $$$ in that case because fans and (importantly) broadcasters didn't want it.
The same thing is slowly happening with Andy Ruiez Jr after his loss to Parker- long period of inactivity and a couple of tomato cans, and he is climbing up too.

Re: Charles Martin's WBC Ranking?
I disagree with you. Outside of all the fighters listed above Dubois in my top 10, I find it difficult to pick another heavyweight that Dubois couldn't beat in the next 6 to 12 month. Dubois is just too young and too big and strong already, for any of them to get the better of him over the course of a fight.Lennox wrote: ↑17 Apr 2018, 14:05 Dubois ruins your ranking he is not ready yet. But chances are, though, that his handlers will go slow with him, and step him along slowly thru the heavyweight rankings. If I was his manger, I'd quickly step him up in competition over the next 4 to 5 fights ( over the course of the next year ), getting him ready to compete for a shot at one of the fragmented titles before the end of 2019.
Fighters who I would seek out for his next 4 to 5 fights:
1. Francesco Pianeta, BJ Flores, or Sam Sexton
2. Derric Rossi, Chazz Witherspoon, or Trey Lippe
3. Eric Molina, Artur Szpilka, or Charles Martin
4. Dereck Chisora, Christian Hammer, or Dominic Breazeale
5. Hopefully a heavyweight title shot by this point.....

Re: Charles Martin's WBC Ranking?
I think you was "trying" to state that Joe Joyce has a better resume' than Daniel Dubois. If that is the case, I did a little research.
Daniel Dubois:
Height: 6' 5". Weight: 238 lbs. 20 years old.
Current record: 7-0-0 / 7 KO's
Current BoxRec ranking: 77
Pro rounds fought: 12
Combined opponents records: 60-15-2 ( 78% won-loss record )
Average opponent ranking: 358
Joe Joyce:
Height: 6' 6". Weight: 252 lbs. 32 years old.
Current record: 3-0-0 / 3 KO's
Current BoxRec ranking: 120
Pro rounds fought: 10
Combined opponents records: 25-5-2 ( 78% won-loss record )
Average opponent ranking: 356
Eerily similar!! Both impressive heavyweights at this stage of their careers, but as far as experience in the ring, Dubois has a bit more. Plus Dubois is much younger than Joyce, who joined the pro ranks after the age of 30. Clearly, Dubois being at 77 with BoxRec, and Joyce being at 120 with BoxRec, is only based on him having a few more fights under his belt. At this point, I just think Dubois a bit farther along than Joyce is. I'm not saying Joyce has no future or no potential. It looks like he does and will, if he fights on a regular basis. But he clearly has a smaller window of opportunity than Dubois has, since Daniel is only 20 years old.
Who knows! They both could be in the heavyweight title picture in the next 2-5 years!

Re: Charles Martin's WBC Ranking?
Joyce will be vying for his first regional title in just his fourth professional contest on May 5 when he meets the 22-4-1 Lenroy Thomas in a scheduled 12 rounder for Thomas's Commonwealth title. So, based on that, I'd say that he's a bit more advanced in his pro career at this point than is Dubois.HeavyHitters wrote: ↑17 Apr 2018, 17:03 I think you was "trying" to state that Joe Joyce has a better resume' than Daniel Dubois. Although, Dubois also holds a pair of minor regional belts as well already but I daresay that Thomas is superior to anyone that Dubois has met thus far. As was Joyce's initial pro opponent Ian Lewiston as well.

Well I think 99.9% of all posters would agree with you.
Re: Charles Martin's WBC Ranking?
So do I but that's no excuse for putting him in the top ten. Does that explanation work for Sulaiman or Mendoza. If it does then the OP has got his answer hasn't he?
Re: Charles Martin's WBC Ranking?
lewison and thomas are both superior to anyone dubois fought, dubois best opponent may well be dorian darch
lets see what dans next opponents like, but chances are its another cherry picked guy wholl be easy to knock over and keep the monster image going
