According to World Boxing Council (WBC) President Mauricio Sulaiman, his organization maintains zero tolerance for banned substances.

Sulaiman announced that the WBC has suspended former world champion Carlos Cuadras of Mexico, because he violated the rules of his last fight by refusing an anti-doping test in connection with the WBC's Clean Boxing Program.

The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) mandates that any fighter who refuses to take a drug test is in violation of their rules.

He says Cuadras has been removed from all of their world rankings.

"Carlos Cuadras is suspended for faults to the banned substances protocol, he is out of the world classifications and this topic is being addressed," explained Sulaiman.

He added that "discipline must exist in boxing, the fighter must have the highest priority of a clean sport, it is something that we will take to the maximum with important efforts."

Good to see the WBC finally responding to outside opinion. Their initial reaction to the Canelo failed tests was a little disappointing to say the least.

Yes, its bad that the wealthy and well connected do often seem to get lighter sentences but isn't that the way of the outside world too?

I begin to fear the worst for Mexican boxing now that the Canelo case has blown the 'tainted meat' excuse out of the water.

“I give the benefit of the doubt to Canelo. He has never previously tested positive for anything and he’s been in the Clean Boxing Program for many years.
”He has our absolute vote of confidence.”

Hopefully the Nevada Commission can get it settled today. Looks like he won't be attending in person, which is a real shame for an accusation of this gravity.

I think most of us still want to see the fight and in a way it's far better to have a clean Canelo enter the ring.

I bet Golovkin doesn't want to see that.

Anything could happen to him if he risks a few big fights in the meantime, and then the juicy Canelo payday goes down the toilet.

The commission could theoretically give Canelo 1 year, but it's retroactive to February and can be shortened, like a prison sentence.

With only trace amounts of clenbuterol found in the samples, it seems very very unlikely that any major suspension would be levied.

Then Canelo misses only 1 payday this year. A fair punishment.

And there are stories circulating that Canelo was considering pulling out of the Golovkin fight anyway because of the worsening knee problem.

If so, the bout would have been ppd until September anyways.

Everything depends upon the verdict reached by the Commission (hopefully today). Opinion has slowed moved away from Canelo's side as the facts emerged. Even GGG has become noticeably bitter about the whole fracas. He must be regretting not being vocal about Canelo's needle marks etc. But he's a prizefighter and he's in the business of fighting for money. His behaviour is understandable but It's crucial for the sport that the authorities can protect the fighters from systematic cheating.

If he's found guilty of systematic doping, many within the sport will call out for a serious punishment. Some boxers (Khan, Bellew etc) are understandably asking for a life ban if he's found guilty.

In any case the message should be clear, the days of casual doping are over. No one should be able to fight in the future after a second offence.

Now when Canelo is FINALLY included into the WBC Clean Boxing Program, it will be interesting to see changes in Clenbnelo's body.

Unfortunately, funding of that program is not good enough for a good number of random tests, but Canelo should be smart enough to not risk a repeated strike. Unless some Mexican cartel approaches VADA, Canelo should stop juicing.

Zero WADA noncompliance tolerance if you don't generate enough money to take PEDS. As long as you make above a certain amount you can get off light, or get off free.

Same thing in the UFC with Conor. Had that been anyone else that attacked that bus they'd be gone. But Conor is about to make the UFC even more money with that stunt he pulled.

I hate to see the integrity of sports compromised by the almighty dollar. But it's not surprising.

Carlos Cuadras Enters Rehab To Deal With Drug Issues

It was alleged that Cuadras refused to take a drug test.

The boxer was not being accused of taking performance enhancing drugs - but what transpired is that information surfaced that Cuadras has a problem with abusing recreational drugs.

The boxer has since entered rehab to deal with his issues, and has the full support of the WBC and their president Mauricio Sulaiman.

During a press conference in Mexico, in which the World Boxing Council handed out the green and gold belt to flyweight champion Cristofer Rosales González and paid tribute to former champion Érik Morales, Suliaman expressed his support for Cuadras and promised to stand by his side until he can recover his position as one of the main fighters in the national scene in Mexico.

"Carlos Cuadras is in a rehabilitation center, we are 100 percent in his corner, supporting him He is in a moment in his life that can happen to any of us, and we are supporting him and we will stand with him, until he arrives to the moment in which he is reincorporated in his normal life and in boxing," said Sulaiman to ESPN Deportes.
