Carl Williams vs Donovan Ruddock

Post by DrDuke »

Prime vs Prime,

Williams of the 80s against Ruddock of late 80s - early 90s.

How do you see this fight going?

Williams comes out looking to establish the jab...after a couple or three rounds, Ruddock catches him with that hybrid hook and lights out.

Both have been tough fighters and top competitors of their time, both have never become champions, but have been close to it.

That's a likely scenario. Williams was a better boxer, but his chin was weak, while Ruddock had a punch and could deliver it, so sooner or later Ruddock had to land. Yet if Ruddock had failed that, he had no other tools to win the fight.

Carl would be dominating with his jab, and around the fifth round, Razor catches him and it is a wrap.

At his very best, which would have been "The Truth" from the Holmes fight Williams would have been well ahead on points after about eight rounds in much the same way that Greg Page was ahead on points during his own bout with Ruddock. But, like everyone else thus far, it's difficult for me to imagine Williams going the limit without getting caught by "Razor's" big hybrid hook. And, when he did it's unlikely that he'd survive it.
