Re: Carl Frampton vs. Nonito Donaire - April 21st 2018
This fights about as crossroads as it gets, Frampton really needs to win if he's to get another title shot. he wasn't great against Garcia, he deserved the win but he gassed badly, got put down(although it was a slip) he doesn't look big at FW and he doesn't seem to be able to bully guys the way he did at SBW
I'm pretty sure the last time I seen Donaire was when he lost his SBW title to Magdaleno, I had the fight a draw and I remember Donaire finishing strong and hurting Magdaleno in the last round, if Frampton fades then Donaire could have the engine and experience to take advantage, he has a lot more tools than Horacio Garcia who just relied on size
I think it will be a close fight, the home crowd just helping see Frampton over the finish line, styles should gel well, both guys can fight and box, might be a cagey start as both men look to box but I think the action will improve as the fight wears on

Donaire is dangerous but opponents have realized his left hook is his big punch so they come prepared. Frampton will be scared of that shot and wont want to get into exchanges. Donaire counters with it too and it comes in fast so frampton will be reluctant to put himself out there. I see a veey cautious fight from frampton, donaires left hand is a serious danger.handsofstone wrote: ↑15 Apr 2018, 07:05 This fights about as crossroads as it gets, Frampton really needs to win if he's to get another title shot. he wasn't great against Garcia, he deserved the win but he gassed badly, got put down(although it was a slip) he doesn't look big at FW and he doesn't seem to be able to bully guys the way he did at SBW

The problem for donaire is he can be outboxed by someone off the backfoot and he has problems leading, he enjoys fighters who come to him. Frampton has no problem stinking a joint out at home as he was comfortable doing vs quigg so I see that kind of fight. Donaire has heart and did try when he was down against rigo and walters and also magdaleno so he may rally. He will be dangerous until the final bell and if he does land the left hook cleanly at any point, the fight will be over.
However I see frampton stinking his way through to a decision. Even if he gets Donaire hurt,.he will still be concerned about the left hand so I see Donaire surviving. It really is a dangerous punch that left hand but thats not going to be enough here. Walters is the only guy who has had good success on the front foot vs Donaire. Montiel tried to get aggressive but was having convulsions on the canvas with a look of shock on his face after taking the left hand flush.

I agree it's going to be slow and tactical. Donaire at his peak never really pushed the pace anyway, and Frampton doesn't really like to lead (as in commit to attacking aggressively), they will both be quite tentative IMO for the reasons you giveTheLeprechaun wrote: ↑18 Apr 2018, 16:47Donaire is dangerous but opponents have realized his left hook is his big punch so they come prepared. Yeah I think the right fight for Frampton is to hang back, unfortunately. They will both be trying to counter the other guys counter also so that makes it even more tentative. Donaire doesnt have a great fight IQ. He will plod forward and make it look like hes getting outboxed instead of hanging back himself and forcing frampton to lead, which he would probably have to do because the crowd would start booing. Im pulling a willie pep if im donaire.
A small part of me thinks donaire might have the speed to get to Frampton and make this look easy. He also doesn't mind taking one to land his left hand.

Agree again. Frampton has shown he is tactically a bit inept- LSC- and hurtable- Gonzalez- when forced onto the front foot. As well as Donaire can counter with the left and how hard he can throw it even as a spot/instinctive counter, that's his best shot IMO

Yes, I always thought that 2nd LSC fight was very underrated, in terms of what LSC did. They realized that coming forward in the first fight was playing into Framptons hands so they simply kept it long with the jab and met Frampton for any exchanges. Frampton had to come forward and LSC had no problem matching him in the exchanges. When they were at range, LSC was winning by NOT coming forward and Frampton looked like he didn't really know what to do at times. Pretty much laid down the blueprint on beating Frampton. They definitely studied the Gonzales fight. It was a great tactical performance against a guy who had beaten LSC pretty comfortably first time round. So much so that I don't see Frampton beating LSC if they have another fight, even in Belfast.Counter-puncher wrote: ↑18 Apr 2018, 17:08 Agree again. You can see guys like Barerra or JMM having no problems with Frampton after that fight.

I've got a funny feeling that Carl is going to wipe him out. Come on The Jackal!!!!
Re: Carl Frampton vs. Nonito Donaire - April 21st 2018
for some reason i want donaire to land one of his big left hooks to end things, i dunno why, im not a donaire fan and dont mind frampton
Re: Carl Frampton vs. Nonito Donaire - April 21st 2018
Good post. This is why I fancy Selby's size and style to give Frampton a lot of problems. According to BoxRec, Selby has a 3 1/2 inch height advantage and 7 inch reach advantage. For all of Frampton's obvious skills his lack of size, particularly at 126, means that he'll really struggle with certain opponents. I think Selby would use those advantages to keep Frampton at range and force him to lead. Carl is much better against a Kiko Martinez type of opponent who comes forward, where he can use his feet, off set him, lay traps and land sharp counters. I think Frampton might struggle against Selby but would school Warrington, but I can see Warrington giving Selby a tough night. Should add that my prediction of Selby over Frampton is based off Selby at his best, which admittedly we haven't always seen.TheLeprechaun wrote: ↑18 Apr 2018, 19:18Yes, I always thought that 2nd LSC fight was very underrated, in terms of what LSC did. Btw, did people ever think any differently regarding Barrera/JMM dealing with Frampton comfortably?

I was stood next to both Selby and Frampton in Cardiff a couple of years ago.ElJefe wrote: ↑19 Apr 2018, 08:52Good post. This is why I fancy Selby's size and style to give Frampton a lot of problems. The size difference is incredible. A boiled down lightweight against a blown up Super-Bantam.
Smart money on Selby if he doesn’t get lazy.

I wonder what odds on Frampton to get knocked down and win on points?

Carl looked really good at he weigh in. Fantastic shape, and not too drained.
Re: Carl Frampton vs. Nonito Donaire - April 21st 2018
This should be a relatively easy win for him at this point. Donaire still has name value, but he's slipped quite a bit from the guy people thought was one of the P4P elites about 5 or 6 years ago.

Re: Carl Frampton vs. Nonito Donaire - April 21st 2018
Maybe slightly, but not as much as Donaire. I thought Frampton always had glaring weaknesses even at his peak frankly. He always seems to tire down the stretch for instance, and that was true even when he was at his best.KiwiRider wrote: ↑20 Apr 2018, 15:47Agree re: Donaire.
Dont you think Carl has slipped a little too?
Re: Carl Frampton vs. Nonito Donaire - April 21st 2018
100% behind frampton for me he s a true champion not stuck up his own arse done a lot for his local community all round nice bloke not to mention top end boxer

How so? Matter of opinion but he always comes across really well IMO. I've met him a few times as well and again he comes across a thoroughly decent guy.TheLeprechaun wrote: ↑20 Apr 2018, 18:31He's one of the worst interviews in boxing. Second only to Callum Smith.
