Wilder too. Mayweather. Ward. The lot of them. They don't want their preciouses to compete anyplace where they dont own and control the refs and judges and etc. etc.

Wilder has quite a few fights outside the US, including England. But not since winning his title. Didn't realize that about Ward, and don't GAS for Mayweather! Thanks! :TU:

I actually blame Mayweather for much of this. He ended up controlling the sport to such an unhealthy degree it has become the blueprint for other big name fighters and their promoters.

He has fought outside England, 2 of his last 3 were outside England . But granted he’s yet to fight outside the U.K.

Quite simply because ....

He’s only had 21 fights, 5 as champion. Hardly a lengthy reign of hometown fights

He’s British, and has been the A side, so has fought as the home fighter. An advantage you wouldn’t needlessly give away

In his last 3 fights he’s fought in front of 75,000 , 90,000 and 78,000 fans - a total of 243,000 fans attending his last 3 fights. That’s huge, add to that he’s been smashing UK ppv records so the gross income for his fights has been huge

The US hasn’t really shown much interest to warrant him fighting there.

Why is it imperative as a champion that he leaves the U.K. when so many fighters who are champions never leave the US?

lol would joshua be proving a point by fighting jessie oltmans in mexico, or something like that?

anyway, its not just aj, so many world champs very rarely fight outside there home base. wilder, ward, charlos, leo santa cruz, gary russell, keith thurman, shawn porter, mikey garcia, jarret hurd, daniel jacobs, etc and loads of usa raised boxers have only had title fights in the usa

many japanese champs only fight in japan

top brits in the uk

etc

when boxers can get support at home, they often pretty much entirely stop traveling. even guys like crawford who had to go on the road for a title, but then once champ only box in one country

Whether it is Wilder and or Povetkin just make it happen. I want to see Anthony Joshua tested in by either or both of them depending on what occurs.

Wilder said last year that Wlad turned him down before he fought AJ. Maybe there was a reason for that? He sparred with both so he probably knew who he could beat. He had the fight won but made a tactical error that cost him. Maybe the reason Wlad looked so good was because AJ isn't that good.

Team AJ must see something in Povetkin that they don't like, or a purse bid wouldn't make him give up a belt.

Isn’t it the worst kept secret in boxing that Wlad KOd Wilder on more than one occasion in sparring ?

“Let me tell you this. Wilder had sparred with Wladimir Klitschko on various occasions.

“Wladimir Klitschko knocked him out cold twice and put him down a third time with a body shot. This is the worst kept secret going”.

James Ali Bashir, Wladimir's co-trainer, says he was working the corner with Deontay Wilder and Richard Towers in sparring Wladimir and both were knocked down trying to be aggressive but he was impressed with their aggressiveness against Klitschko.

That's great! Where can I find an article about it? I just want to read it for myself.

Sounds like BS to me. Klitschko said that Wilder was a great sparring partner. If this was so, it would be more prevalent than just this source. To be fair, I also don't believe all the Joshua being knocked down stories. Thanks for the link, but I remain skeptical.

wouldnt surprise me if wlad dropped wilder, wilder was more sloppy back then and wlad could really crack, but since when does wlad throw body shots lol.

you always have to be skeptical with these sparring stories but there are truth to some, for example rumours were out about big pricey dropping aj in sparring, and aj eventually conceded it was true. but then its rumoured a bunch of other fighters dropped aj and theres really no evidence, and ppl who trained together with them say they never saw it

AJ came clean with the Price story. It's no shame to be dropped in sparring, but some of the stories are outrageous! If AJ admitted one, then AJ has the integrity and the others are bullocks. (I can't believe I used that term!)
