Cornish Boxers

Hailing as I do from the land of closed tin mines, pasties, and escapist bastard shithead doctors and their snotty jizzholic families driving the cost of everything to near London levels, I'm interested in whether anyone knows of any Kernow boxers doing alright for themselves in the pro or amateur ranks. Bob Fitzsimmons aside. (The fact that for about 100 years the only Queensbury Rules British heavyweight champion ever was a lanky blacksmith brought up in Helston speaks volumes for the quality of big boxers in this country).

No sorry I don't, but I do Love Cornwall! Kaynance cove, Porthscatho and Fowey best of all.

Im from Cornwall as well, the only other decent Cornish boxer that springs to mind is Len Harvey

I live in Newquay!

Closest we have is a jump across the River Tamar, Scott Dann and he is Devon

The Amateur Scene is only just picking up, with only 3 clubs about 5 years ago, there now being around 8 clubs, so we are going in the right direction, the closest Pro gym is probaly Bristol!

Devon broke away from a Devon & Cornwall Amateur County force many years ago, forcing Dorset & Cornwall to join forces due to the lack of clubs in both areas, but as the clubs grow in numbers we might see some future stars in Cornwall!

I've often wondered why Devon & Cornwall have been so poorly represented in the pro ranks. Yes, there are some very pretty bits in both counties, but if you grow up in places like Bodmin, St Awfull, bits of Newquay, large areas of Plymouth, or any of the strange, remote little council villages that both local authorities have seen fit to build miles from anything resembling civilisation - well, you'd think that boxing had some appeal. It's not like we're all weed-smoking surfer types down this way.

It's because the native Cornish are the only 'true' English citizens. This is a well known fact. The rest of us are all foreigners in one way or another (i.e. our ancestors initially originated from outside England) .......... no wonder the pasty faced Cornish haven't been so successful in the pro ranks
