Maybe worse... An Eddie Chambers type exposes him the same way.

might be worse. for ppl obsessed with age to boxrec points ratio, dimitrenko actually had like 15 more points then schwarz at the same age. still at 24 dimi was already around 110

omg he shouldve become the goat

The boxing world was far more active back then. Mike Tyson and so also have far far far superior ratings as any current champ will ever achieve.

Being an American with limited access to seeing these individuals fight, I can't say with any certainty at all who will win this match-up. But, it's certainly interesting & entertaining reading your opinions & ( often rather heated ) debates about their skill-sets & their records thus far.
Honestly, until tonight I doubt if I've ever heard of Gasha before. But, of course, due to his high world ranking, I've heard of Tom Schwarz & done my best to follow his career. But, I can't say that I've been impressed with him thus far. Even if he manages to beat the fellow unbeaten Gasha, his credentials will be highly suspect given his lofty status in the ratings.
Does he compare to any heavies from the USA as far as his abilities, style & limitations? How far do you think he can go? Is he a legitimate threat to become an actual world-class contender or will he be exposed as soon as he steps up in class? Since he's been compared to Dimitrenko in this thread, how accurate do you feel that assessment is? Is his ceiling higher, lower or about the same?

I don't believe in a points or mechanical system of rating somebody...

Morrison was highly hyped and ranked while he went undefeated in his first 28 fights... He had size and punching power as if that has anything to do with how well you can box... Morrison never had a jab, footwork, or a defense... He always looked like a disaster waiting to happen... When he signed to fight Mercer that was his death warrant... Schwarz hasn't ventured into the kill zone yet... If he fights Wilder, Joshua, Parker, Ruiz, Takam, Povetkin, Ortiz, etc. it's over.

He's quicker and has a better chin than Morrison, but you need fundamental skills.

That is exactly why I joined. It would be great for us to be able to see more of the Europeans fight. That's where most of the action is.

Schwarz will win most likely by ko or stoppage. I'm waiting for him to fight Michael Wallisch for the German Hwt Title. It amazes me that I'm still waiting.

Schwarz did a great job staying composed and controlling the fight following the initial butt. That's a good sign for such a young fighter. Promoters are salivating about being able to sell a grudge rematch, but Gashi shouldn't be allowed in the ring with Schwarz again.

A good showing from Schwarz, in his ability to take a punch, box, and contend with a weird stylistic match-up. They need to work on his power. But, otherwise, I imagine his handlers are gaining confidence in him.

He may be headed toward a fight with Kabayel or possibly that Otto Wallin guy.

apparently they have too many boxrec points for tom, so surely agit and otto would too

I wouldn't feed my prospect to Kabayel. Kabayel is way too good. Kabayel is ready to fight dudes like Kownacki, Breazeale, and Ruiz Jr. I think Schwarz's handlers would soon match him up with someone in continental Europe with a boxrec rating between 37 and 45, like Ustinov, Samuel Kadje, Bogdan Dinu, or Michal Cieslak.

Boxrec posters seem to always want a boxer's next fight to be his career-defining fight and be thrown right in the deep end. But look at Manuel Charr's career between the time he fought Gbenga Oloukun and the time he fought Vitali Klitschko. He took 10 fights in a row that were not step-ups at all. Or look at Denis Boytsov's career between the Taras Bidenko fight and the Leapai fight -- 8 fights in a row that weren't step-ups. German promoters seem to have a penchant for holding fighters in the #26-50 range for a while to just keep collecting safe paychecks. Aside from that, young prospects in general have to rise gradually, and can't be skipping intermediate tiers of opponents the way that older, amateur standouts can. So anyways, you can't expect boxing managers to give you everything you want all at once. They move quite a bit more cautiously when they are managing their own meal ticket, compared to how boxing fans would match a fighter for their amusement.

On a related note, jamamb predicted accurately.

I don't see why the derisive laughter emoticon is called for here. How about this: once Wallin's rating gets updated after today, that will be the line. If Schwarz's next opponent has a rating greater than or equal to that number, then I'm an idiot. If Schwarz's next opponent has a rating less than that number, then you're an idiot.

No, on the contrary (to the Boxrecers think everyone's next fight should be their career defining fight...at least in my case) I was just thinking of moving Schwarz along at a relatively easy pace that's why I dialed it back to that Otto Wallin guy who is only the EBU-EU Champ.

I think Schwarz would probably be even with that level, but yeah I imagine they'll continue to build him for a few more fights.

Maybe he could get a fight with a David Allen type or something?

Yeah, David Allen would be a sensible opponent for a variety of prospects, especially for Nathan Gorman. British fans love the all-British match-ups, so Gorman must be matched with David Allen or Gary Conish in the near future. Wouldn't be shocked if Schwarz fought Allen, even though he is not necessarily a step-up, because boxers don't always make a step up every fight in reality. But since David Allen has never traveled outside of England, it is a safer bet to assume that he will be jobbing to fighters inside of English borders.

Both were terrible. Schwartz took a dive and pretended to be dead after a small headbutt. Gashi was perhaps disqualified too easily (thanks to Schwartz acting talent) but he shouldn't have attacked the opponent after the fight was over. But at least he didn't sucker punch like Dirrell's brother.

Can you expand on this? Getting butted isn't cheating, butting is cheating.

Schwarz is a grade A doink in my opinion. I cannot stand his carry-on. He was leaning over Gashi the whole time. The first headbutt was Gashi raising his head up quickly as Schwarz was leaning heavily on him. Schwarz is coming back from a neck injury but he writhed around like a footballer. He continued to lean and push down on the head of Gashi. The next two "butts" had absolutely nothing in them. They were nudges. Gashi got a few clean punches on Schwarz as well, the big German looked poor.

I hope they get Schwarz in as a comeback opponent for Fury in a few fights' time so I can have the pleasure of watching the Gypsy King starch him.

Did I mention I'm not a Schwarz fan?

I watched the fight this morning on YouTube, before reading these posts, so appreciate that my perspective/opinion doesn't necessarily fit the narrative.

I personally think it was a terrible fight, with one guy looking to box at distance at all costs, and one retaliating on the inside. There was a significant size and reach difference, and Gashi's only chance of having any success was to close the distance and get on the inside. Every time he did this, Schwartz used his height advantage to lean on top of him, even pushing him over in the opening few rounds. Every time Gashi got close, Schwartz almost leaped into the clinch, forcing the referee's intervention and putting them back to distance.

Granted, Gashi did target a few nibbles with the head to Schwartz, but the way that Schwartz threw himself to the deck in the second round like Luis Suarez, was nothing short of an embarrassment. Especially considering how light the knock was, and his job is to absorb large amounts of punishment to the face. It was made worse by the constant hands in the air by Schwartz, acting like a bit of a d*ck, followed by a completely over excessive celebration for in my opinion a pretty flat performance.

I'm not condoning a head butt, and the point deductions, and subsequent DQ were valid, but I also understand the growing frustration from Gashi. The referee should have intervened for the holding well before the first headbutt, and maybe none of this would have happened. Instead, Gashi was unable to play to any game plan, other than having to throw wild haymakers to reduce his time on the inside.

Personally it should be a no-contest, and both fighters fined.
