Excellent news. Campbell done himself proud against Linares considering the stress and upset he must've been suffering! This should let us know how far he's come and where he's at.

Wouldn't give him a snowballs chance in hell against Garcia though if he wins!

Titles aside, I wanted this to happen straight after their first fight. The experience Luke has gained since then makes it a huge advantage.
To me (admittedly a huge Campbell fan boy) it was a shock loss that needed avenging.
If Luke has a night anywhere near as good as he did against Linares, Mendy is going down! :box:

Cant see it happening as i am sure Hearn and Luke know they have no chance vs Garcia. He needs to make the Crolla fight

Funny, two of Mendys 4 losses (plus 1 draw) came at the hands of one Abdoulaye Soukouna, a 14-12-6 journeyman, seems to have had his number.

Since then his other two losses, both on points, were to a prime Viktor Postol in Kiev & to Edis Tatli in Helskinki.

As good as Campbell has looked recently Mendy is definitely one of those blokes who is improving with age & learning his craft as a pro.

He didnt the 1st time. Campbell has been beaten off the best 2 fighters hes faced. Hes over rated. Mendy was just too tough for him and wasnt bothered by his power, and i rate Mendy euro/fringe world class.. He also has a suspect chin. Been dropped in his last couple of fights.
He was guaranteed a wbc shot a while back untill Garcia won it and he decided to give it a massive swerve so dont see why he would fight Mendy in an eliminator as he wont fight Garcia.

I think he will beat him convincingly. He was going through a hell of a lot at the time.

What do people expect Campbell to do, not believe in himself and swerve every challenge that comes his way ? He is a big young strong lad with decent skills and a big heart, a few could do with taking a leaf from his book, Mendy has already beaten him and Luke wants to reverse that result, good on him i say and as good as Garcia is better fighters than him have been beaten by worse fighters than Luke.

Garcia would play with Luke thats why they didnt take the fight. Took a more winnable fight vs Linares and lost. Loma would be another L so i really wont see where he goes from here to win a title. He could beat Mendy then Crolla but he is not winning a belt as it stands as it looks like by the end of the year Loma and Garcia will both have 2 belts.

Chances of Campbell just fighting Crolla instead in a final eliminator for the WBA?

Doesnt matter if he cant/doesnt win a belt, its the fact he tried against the best that matters not trying to find an easy way to pick up a meaningless belt, the fans these days are getting worse than the promoters, lets not forget the core values of this game.

well lets see exactly how much hes improved then, probably no better opponent to show us, tbf pretty much all his meaningful opponents beside mendy came after that fight. linarez, perez, mendez. id expect him to have gotten better. but maybe mendy has too.

campbell to me has been a guy who really can look special at a certain level, then he steps up above that and doesnt look very hot, though hes still solid

Olympic and European champion am, very close with Linares. He’s more than solid. He’s world class.

im talking pro, also in the context of british guys looking to world title fights

thats the thing, the am accomplishments keep getting brought up because theres no real standout performance that mean much beyond euro level as a pro except perhaps a loss, one i thought was clear. he hardly impressed vs mendez or perez either and did lose of course to mendy. hes only really shined at brit level, which of course is still quite respectable

his am wins mean f all when rating his pro career, for such an elite am his pro career needs plenty of catch up

At 30 he’s not that young for a professional sportsman and has probably peaked physically already?

Campbell is still in his prime physically & will be at his peak mentally. He's coming off a fight where he would have learnt a lot, including that he has the mettle to battle back from an early knockdown & cut. He won 5 of the last 9 rounds on most scorecards.

He still has two good years left in him barring any unfortunate incidents.

Saying that, I still have this fight 50/50. Mendy has improved since beating Campbell so I think it will go down to the wire.

I doubt if either will win a proper world title, but good luck to them both.

Expect Campbell to win well.is this not just an ego fight. Thought the first fight luke got caught out.as he was use to fighting .sorry to say nobody's. One of Campbell wins in his early fights was a cancer surviver

Rubbish. To be world class you actually have to beat someone world class. He hasnt.
He looks world class at british level but has been exposed when he has stepped up.

Thats his problem. When he fights vs an opponent like Mendy who comes to win and is willing to bite down on his gum shield when things get tough and not be broken Luke and has stuggled. Hes clearly a bit chinny....Mendy, Mendez and Linares have all dropped him.....imagine what Garcia would do to him
