Roman Gonzalez vs. Pedro Guevara - OFF

Post by Ruthless-RKO »

Mexican veteran Pedro 'Pedrin' Guevara is being lined up to face four division world champion Roman 'Chocolatito' Gonzalez as part of the card being headlined by middleweight king Gennady Golovkin on May 5 in Las Vegas.

Sources close to the negotiations revealed to ESPN Deportes that they had already reached an agreement for a 10-round fight in the super flyweight division, but the announcement would come until after Golovkin announced a finalized opponent for the Cinco de Mayo date.

Guevara (30-3-1, 17 KO's) is a former World Boxing Council junior flyweight champion and has had at least 10 fights held in the flyweight division, but has never fought high enough in the super flyweight division, where Chocolatito (46-2, 38 KO's) made history by becoming the first four-division champion in the history of Nicaraguan boxing, but where he also suffered his first two defeats.

Solid fight. Guevara is talented as hell. I just wish he didn't have to move up 2 divisions. I'd rather have saw it at FW.

Chocolatito Appears Unlikely For Golovkin-Vanes Card

According to Roman 'Chocolatito' Gonzalez, he is likely not participating on the Cinco de Mayo event that will showcase IBF, IBO, WBA, WBC middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin defending his belt against Armenian Vanes Martirosyan at the StubHub Center in Carson, California.

Gonzalez was considered by GGG Promotions and HBO to join the undercard, and in fact were about to send a statement about the return of the four-time world champion after a complicated 2017, in which he lost back to back fights Srisaket Sor Rungvisai

"Yesterday we met with my team, and we decided not to fight on that same evening (on May 5 with Golovkin), because in the end we did not know who the opponent was. (Plan B is) to fight in June, possibly. We're going to see where we fight, but I hope they give us the opportunity to fight in Nicaragua. There were about 10 rivals and in the end we do not know who he is, and as of this date I still do not know who he is," Gonzalez said.

Carlos Blandon, the legal advisor to Gonzalez, spoke to ESPN Deportes and said that the final decision will be made on Tuesday night, but also made it known that the negotiations do not look good at all.

"We are grateful to the people of HBO and I took into account that we're fighting on the same event of Golovkin, but in the end the opponent was not confirmed and we decided with my team, in the end, to walk away, because we still did not know who it was, and other details," Gonzalez. said.

According to Tom Loeffler, promoter of Golovkin, more than 4,000 tickets were sold in a day for the May 5 bout in California.

ESPN Deportes states that one of the possibilities for the return of Gonzalez is to into climb the ring in the month of June in his native Nicaragua, where he has not fought since February 2015, when he defeated Valentin Picoco 'León.

Time is not on Chocolatito's side.

He needs to stop playing games, get back in the ring and find out if he still has it.

They're trying to stack the deck in Chocolatito's favor. He's at least familiar to HBO fight fans. Guevara isn't.

Roman Gonzalez vs. Pedro Guevara in Play For December 8

A deal is inching closer for the next opponent for former four division world champion Roman 'Chocolatito' Gonzalez.

Gonzalez is slated to return to the ring on December 8, as part of the the final televised boxing card on HBO's airwaves. A few weeks ago, the network announced that after 45-years they had come to a decision to drop boxing.

The opponent for Gonzalez is likely going to be former world champion Pedro 'Pedrin' Guevara, according to ESPN Deportes.

Guevara (32-3-1, 19 KOs) has reportedly reached an agreement to fight Gonzalez (47-2, 39 KO's) in a contest scheduled for 10 rounds at the super flyweight limit.

The two boxers were in line to fight each other back in May, as part of Gennady Golovkin's return in Los Angeles, but there wasn't enough time to carry out the fight.

Guevara comes back from a win over Roberto Sanchez on September 1, in a battle for the Fecarbox belt of the World Boxing Council in super flyweight.

Gonzalez, who will take part in his 50th fight as a professional, is returning from a spectacularly knockout victory over former champion Moises Fuentes - which took place on September 15 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas - as part of the undercard to the Canelo-Golovkin rematch.

Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez will oppose Pedro Guevara in the main event of what’s expected to be HBO’s last boxing broadcast for the foreseeable future.

ESPN.com reported a deal is in place for the Gonzalez-Guevara fight December 8 at StubHub Center in Carson, California. The card will be announced at a press conference Wednesday in Los Angeles.

HBO also will air a bout featuring undisputed women’s welterweight champion Cecilia Braekhus that night. Braekhus’ opponent wasn’t solidified as of Tuesday.

HBO announced late in September that the network will move away from broadcasting boxing in 2019. It has two telecasts remaining on its 2018 schedule, starting with a card headlined by WBA light heavyweight champion Dmitry Bivol (14-0, 11 KOs) and ex-champion Jean Pascal (33-5-1, 20 KOs, 1 NC) on November 24 from Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

Roman 'Chocolatito' Gonzalez withdraws from fight vs. Pedro Guevara

Former pound-for-pound king Roman "Chocolatito" Gonzalez has been unable to work through a knee injury he suffered last week at his Indio, California, training camp and has withdrawn from his upcoming fight against former junior flyweight world titlist Pedro Guevara, Tom Loeffler of 360 Boxing Promotions told ESPN on Sunday.

Gonzalez, a former four-division world champion, and Guevara were due to square off in a 10-round junior bantamweight bout in the co-feature of the final HBO boxing telecast on Dec. 8 (10:20 p.m. ET/PT) at the StubHub Center in Carson, California.

"Unfortunately, he injured his knee when he was running in camp so he is not able to fight or train, so he is off the show," Loeffler said. "He got hurt last week and got therapy and a cortisone shot but his knee didn't respond. He is going to have arthroscopic surgery on it. It's the kind of thing where he should be out about six weeks and come back in the first quarter of next year."

Although Gonzalez (47-2, 39 KOs), 31, of Nicaragua, is out with the injury, which was first reported by the Los Angeles Times, Loeffler said top junior bantamweight contender Juan Francisco Estrada likely will replace Gonzalez on the card and face Guevara (32-3-1, 19 KOs), 29, of Mexico.

"We're excited to have him back on the show. If Estrada fights it's a good replacement," Loeffler said. "Estrada was training for a fight in Mexico but that fight got canceled, so it looks like they'll take the fight on Dec. 8.

"I've already contacted the Estrada people and he wants to take the fight, so it works out well for Estrada. It's unfortunate for Chocolatito but good for Estrada."

Estrada (37-3, 25 KOs), 28, of Mexico, has had his last three consecutive fights on HBO as part of Loeffler's "Superfly" series of cards and is headed toward a probable rematch with junior bantamweight world champion Srisaket Sor Rungvisai, who edged him by majority decision in an action-packed fight on Feb. 24.

The two other bouts remain intact for the "Boxing After Dark" telecast that will end HBO's 45-year run of televising most of the biggest fights in boxing. The network announced in late September that it would no longer televise the sport.

In the main event on Dec. 8, undisputed women's welterweight world champion Cecilia Braekhus (34-0, 9 KOs) will defend her belts for the 24th time when she meets Aleksandra Magdziak-Lopes (18-4-3, 1 KO). In the opening bout, unified women's middleweight world titleholder Claressa Shields (7-0, 2 KOs), a two-time U.S. Olympic gold medalist, will defend her belts against super middleweight titlist Femke Hermans (9-1, 3 KOs), who will move down in weight for the fight.
