Re: Top 5 Favorite Fighters of All Time
Not so easy to sort fighters in a such list being first of all a boxing fan, loving this sport, in which there have been so many remarkable boxers through its whole great history, so I enjoy watching a lot of great boxers, especially the heavyweights. However, I've always favoured Tommy Morrison and Joe Frazier above the others, the rest is more difficult. I guess, for me the list can look only this way:
1. Tommy Morrison
2. Joe Frazier
And the honorable mentions, where first of all I'll name such guys, like Evander Holyfield, Gene Tunney, Wladimir Klitschko, Lennox Lewis, Riddick Bowe, Rocky Marciano, Roberto Duran and others.

1. Vasyl Lomachenko
2. Anthony Joshua
3. Mikey Garcia
4. Salvador Sanchez
5. Gene Tunney
My favorite as the man who promoted his image better than anyone -- was the 2nd coming of George Foreman.

I'll make two lists
From my time as a fan (late 2001-Present)
1. Arturo Gatti
2. Erik Morales
3. Gennady Golovkin
4. Marcos Maidana
5. Jose Luis Castillo
James Toney too has gotta be mentioned. He's almost in between as my favorite career moments of his mostly fit into the latter category.
From before my time
1. Bobby Chacon
2. Matthew Saad Muhammad
3. Joe Frazier
4. Julian Jackson
5. Roberto Duran
So many more fighters I've enjoyed greatly that I could add to either list if it were a Top 10 or Top 20.

I have a top 4 of Roy Jones Jr, Roberto Duran, James Toney and Muhammad Ali. There's those guys, a gap, and then lots of others that I really like - Lennox, Manny, Hagler, Hearns, Oscar, Martinez, Golovkin and lots more that would pop into my head if you asked me on another day.
Re: Top 5 Favorite Fighters of All Time
Top 5 favourite?
Rocky Marciano
Nigel Benn
Steve Collins
Carl Froch
Roberto Duran
I like full-blooded fighters who get stuck into their opponent.

Re: Top 5 Favorite Fighters of All Time
My favorite fighters are not necessarily the all-time best, just guys I thought were courageous, entertaining, etc. I limit this to fighters I have watched on TV extensively (or on film).
My top five:
1. Marvin Hagler
2. Fighting Harada
3. Thomas Hearns
4. Khaosai Galaxy
5. Alexis Arguello
Honorable mentions: Mikkel Kessler, Barry McGuigan, Cornelius Boza Edwards
My favorites right now are Naoya Inoue, Lomachenko, and Golovkin

Re: Top 5 Favorite Fighters of All Time
Archie Moore For his endurance
Muhammad Ali For his indomitable psyche
Roberto Duran For his journey up and down the fame/honor scale
Carlos Monzon For all the wrong reasons
Kostya Tzyu Because he reminded me of Joe Louis in terms of being an honorable warrior
Joe Louis gets an honorable mention here. As Does George Foreman for the same reason Kalan gives.....and George should probably be on my official list instead of Monzon....since George overcame his demans, and Carlos was taken out by his.

Re: Top 5 Favorite Fighters of All Time
He didn't budge Larry Holmes with his indomitable brain games...
Larry was subdued before the Ali fight - like a man who wasn't happy with himself.. He said... "I'm doing this for Ali more than for myself... I should have gotten an Ali Title shot instead of Leon Spinks... For all of Ali's talking? .... His talking sells the fight and that's what he's good at.. He can do all the talking he wants, but his ass is grass and I'm the lawnmower."
In the ring, just before the fight, Ali walked up to Holmes and showered him with non-stop verbal abuse - calling Larry every name in the book... Holmes got tired of it and gave Ali a mighty shove....letting Ali know "You're not selling any more tickets lad.. Just get your ass out of my face and get ready to box."
Ali didn't quite reach the heights of Klitschko-Joshua with his fistic presentation...
At 38, Ali was 3 years younger than Wlad was for AJ...
As for your other choices... good selections.
Re: Top 5 Favorite Fighters of All Time
Two things that you talk about, that has me fearing that a specific portion of your cerebrum has been affected in a negative manner: And they are similar so it may be that it's a bit of blind judgment area that you may take some steps to remedy if you hurry.
You talk over and over in a manner that suggests to your pantin' public that you consider the Holmes Ali fight as if it were two great champions meeting on some sort of even playing field. Can you cease and desist? It's practically a crime to let your mind wander so far away from sensibility. In 15 states you would be issued a citation for blatant bimbonic blathering.
And then you turn around and do the same thing when you speak about the Joshua Wlad K affair. It just aint apples and apples there Bozo.
The age thing you tout is an interesting irrelevance to some degree.....we all know that by the time Ali and Holmes mixed it up Ali was beginning to get a bit toasty....for more reasons than just his boxing career. He wasn't experiencing the onset of just pugilistic dementia, though that may be a small aspect of his genuine diagnosis....he was for the most part experiencing Parkinson disease/syndrome.....which does a number on the reflexes.
And Oglethorp has been trying to assist you with the same sort of awareness elevation when you regurgitate your tripe of the month special. That somehow Joshua was facing the best Wlad.
You need to listen to more James Brown music and "Get on the good foot". A.S.A.P.

Did I ever SAY Ali was any good for the Holmes Fight??? NO... Did I say it was 2 guys fighting at their best??? NO... Ali stunk the joint out... Ali was beaten to shitt before he ever faced Spinks... That's why he wanted to fight a guy with 7 fights instead of the best Heavyweight in the world -- who happened to be Larry Holmes..
Holmes fought Ray Mercer at 42 (beat him) Evander Holyfield at 43 (good showing) and Oliver McCall at 45 (very good showing) and obviously I'm not saying Holmes was at his best for any of those fights... But he didn't take shitt-kickings like Ali... He had more of an indomitable psyche, cuz look at that big fat pot belly he sported for those fights.
Frazier intimidated Ali when they first met and Norton intimidated Ali when he beat him... Ali's brain was relatively undamaged from too many head shots from light hitters when he took those fights... No indomitable psyche was evident... Ali got hammered, smashed to the canvas, got a shattered jaw, and whatnot.... That's not an indomitable psyche... That's what led to Ali's later poor performances against Neon Leon and the boys in later fights.
Hold on there Jizzbreath... Stop getting your hinder in a double twist and stop calling me names... Stop making comments about my brain, as I possess a well functioning model and you don't.. I would have banned you a long time ago for your addle brained sputterings when I comment on your favorites ... Answer a few reasonable questions...BoxBuzz wrote: ↑20 Apr 2018, 19:51 Two things that you talk about, that has me fearing that a specific portion of your cerebrum has been affected in a negative manner: And they are similar so it may be that it's a bit of blind judgment area that you may take some steps to remedy if you hurry.

Re: Top 5 Favorite Fighters of All Time
It is possible for a diabetic person to have what appears to be alcohol on their breath, and for even the best law officers to make an honest mistake, and have their "perp" blow a "0" on the meter. And of course we all know what alcohol on someones breath smells like.
With that said....IF I show signs of what you just accused me of, I can assure you it is from some innocent and similarly misconstrued (on your part) source, and you have simply made a mistake. However....the more interesting part of your accusation...is how it is you can recognize this condition. Can you explain it? Cuz I'm takin' a guess it could well be that are quite familiar with the scent, and have had others recognize and advise you on this matter.
With that said. I want to assure you that a portion of what you said regarding relevant boxing information above is accurate. And then there is all that other stuff, that is full of missing memories, and pure confabulatory balderdash.
Nothing that a little James Brown music could not address. So get up off a that thing, and get right with the lord.
And if you don't know....Bozo is a clown, a first class entertainer....and not a "name" or "derogatory". You sir are an honorable Bozo.

Re: Top 5 Favorite Fighters of All Time
BuzzBox... I called you jizzbreath cuz you leveled about 5 name calling names at me and I don't have you right here to rip your head off and crap down your neck... Plus I can picture people avoiding you because your stinky breath and body odor -- and that just seemed like an appropriate name to get back at a weird fellow like you.
But you DIDN'T say how Ali could have an indomitable psyche when he was a runner who got ripped with left hooks and avoided skillful opponents like Larry Holmes .... in favor of getting his ass kicked by Little Leon Spinks, 6-0-1.
What was Wladimir Klitschko doing when he was 36??? .... He was working hard and still getting better.

Yeah but Kalan, your derogatory expletive aimed at me is really disgusting and despicable as well as highly unlikely, whereas my descriptor of you as a "Bozo" is benign, sort of warm and fuzzy, as well as clever. Now I dont want to hurt your feelings, cuz your probably a real sensitive feller. But, this sort of unimaginative and frankly embarassing type of spouting off speaks to your lack of judgment my friend.....and it does not inspire confidence.

You are the opposite of clever. Bye now
Re: Top 5 Favorite Fighters of All Time
Ezzard should have quit when he started to slide down the pole... Tunney did it the right way and quit while he was on top and still getting better... No need to have 121 fights ... and bitterly continue when you can no longer swing.ClivePatrickLyons wrote: ↑23 Apr 2018, 00:36BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA Are you seriousLoma

so where is Ezzard Charles

Charles won 9 straight Heavyweight Championship Fights... Take your ball and go home at 75-5-1... I often wonder where EC would be ranked if he didn't fight Walcott for the 3rd time and just quit cuz he wasn't feeling good.
Re: Top 5 Favorite Fighters of All Time
So even though you acknowledge that Ezzard Charles was great in his prime you still hold it against him that he lost fights when past it?
