Wlad Klit Vs Bruno what if?

Post by Max Molyneux »

Wlad reminds me quite a bit of Bruno.

Both work off their long armed jabs and their straights are piston like, but I'd say Bruno had a better jab.

Both can fold when hit on the chin hard enough, except Bruno wouldn't eat the canvas like Wlad does and was more out on his feet. Bruno's chin was a little better I;d say.

Both guys stamina could let them down because of trying to over do it hence why Manny was telling Wlad to stay calm.

Bruno would only hold when he was tired, Wlad holds whenever they get too close.

Bruno had a big left hook, Wlad just works off straights more until there hurt.

Bruno fought a better era of HW's, Wlad's fighting in this current weaker one.

I'd lean towards Bruno more but I'd say 50/50 as well but I'd say Bruno was more skilled.

Bruno by KO, Wlad freezes and panics worse the Bruno, and his skinny legs and weak chin can't handle lesser punchers than Bruno who was 1 of the hardest of his era, so when Bruno lands (and he will) goodnight Wladdy. If only Bruno came now instead if in the 80s

Hmm, surprised everyone is so certain. I think it's a hard one to call. Bruno had a decent beard, but no survival instinct, Wlad has a lesser beard and an equally shite survival instinct, but is the more fluid fighter with the quicker hands.

So here's the opposing view: Vlad has a far more varied punch repertoire and moves much better. As an offensive fighter his a class above Bruno. As a defensive fighter Bruno is probably slightly better.

However, unless Bruno pulls a "Corrie" I consider him pretty chanceless.

Brunos right was probably twice as hard as Corries left. Could he land it? Well TOS, Sanders and even Steve Pannel landed straight shots that put Wlad down. So Bruno would land his big shots and Wlad can't take big shots so Bruno wins.

Brunos fluidity was enough to outbox Lewis, Witherspoon and Smith and give Tyson some pain into the bargain. Offensive skill wise Wlad is slightly superior, but he could well freeze against a man of his own size who hits like a mual, but Bruno could probably freeze too. At least Bruno didn't completely shit himself and pass out before his opponent hit him.

Sanders is way faster than Bruno though, that was the big problem for Wlad, he just couldn't get out of the way of the shots, and when he got hurt did a classic bruno, standing with hands by his sides eating massive shots.

It would be easier for Wlad to see Bruno's humdingers coming and block them, though the jab would be harder to stop.

Vitali reminded me more of Bruno than Vlad, in terms of both looking mechanic and being akward. Vitali was bigger and stronger than Bruno though.

for once i agree with ya.

bruno's jab would have bothered wlad and sooner or later i see the big right hand causing havoc on klitschko's dodgy chin.

bruno KO5.

And Vlad's jab - more power, longer reach - wouldn't have bothered Bruno?

Bruno had the longer reach, not Wlad. I'll bet more of that reach was arm length with Bruno too, afro-carribeans tend to have longer limbs in proportion to body size.

bruno was doing an alright job with lewis and he's better than wlad. i'm not convinced wlad would have taken that 3rd rd right hand as well as lewis did.

bruno catches up with him and u all know it. :D

I like Bruno's chance in this one, Frank had a bit better chin than Vlad, I think Frank would KO Vlad in the first 6 rounds. If it went longer, Vlad would win on late stoppage

The Bruno who fought Lewis on that rainy night in Cardiff (before the roof) was a formidable fighter. In the end, Lewis sucked it up and pulled it out, but Frank learned from it and came back even better under George Francis.
Frank would probably do a Corrie Sanders on Wlad.

PS: Mickey Duff slagged Bruno in his autobiography - said Bruno never gritted his teeth to win, never came from behind to win. I saw Frank grit his teeth to beat Rudi Pika in a thrilling ABA heavyweight final in 1980, and also hang in there to beat McCall.

He had a fair point though. Bruno had zero survival instincts, until that fight with McCall, when he finally learned to hold on when tired or hurt, he grimaced and grappled his way through that last couple of rounds although he had little or nothing left in the tank.

He would have undoubtedly been sparked a couple of years before but had finally learned his lesson.

Bruno crapped himself against Tyson in the 2nd fight and was also pysched out by Witherspoon. I don't know if you watched Bruno in the fights against the boxers you named. He was losing against Witherspoon by 2/3 rds and got a beating, it was close against Smith I think he may have been winning but it was close and against Lewis two judges had the fight even and one somehow had him 5 rds up! So Bruno didn't outbox any of these guys and lost every rd to Tyson twice!

Having said that although I think Wlad is better technically I think Bruno has the bigger punch. Neither have great chins or survival skills so its a 50/50 for me. In a trilogy it would probably be 2-1 to someone. I think Wlad can outbox Bruno and maybe stop him/outpoint him but I can also see Bruno KOing Wlad. With both boxers graced with great stamina I'd say it was a 50/50 fight that wouldn't go the distance. But I'd go for Bruno more often than Wlad.

nice post. Bruno was too slow to give Wladi problems and I don´t think that Bruno had a monster chin like a Brewster. I would go for a win for Wladi here, mid round stoppage.

Yeah I could see that happening too. Bruno, aside from Tyson 2 ( when I think it's likely he was already in the early stages of a mental breakdown )
was mentaly stronger than Wlad.
He'd have a good chance of putting the fear of God into him early and maybe blowing him away with a fast & hard start.

Of course, if Wlad landed it could be lights out for Frank as well.

No one, even Holyfield, outboxed LL like Bruno did. I actually backed Bruno to win on points and fornicate me I thouight I'd pulled it off until boom.
Bollox, if onloy big Frank learnt to take a count he would have been a much better fighter but going down seemed to be beneath him. Too proud for his own good.

He was a very, very underestimated fighter but that said a thorough professional and a better prepared fighter you wouldn't find on God's earth.

Vlad would have got caught and bottled it against Big Frank whose long Jab was one of the best ever when he got it moving. Someone at Ringside against Lewis likened his Jab to "Brilliamnt, went in and out with the rythm of a Porn-Stars Cock" Hillarious!

Have to disagree on a few things. Bruno didn't outbox Lewis. And what do you mean by using Holyfield as an example? How did he outbox Lewis? Look at the scores Bruno/Lewis. Two judges had it even so it wasn't exactly a boxing lesson was it? How one judge had Bruno 4 up is beyond me! I can't believe how many people say Bruno outboxed Lewis. He done well and better than most people expected and thats it! No way was he dominating.

And if you backed Bruno to win on points, firstly you must love throwing your money away and secondly you obviously don't know either boxers strengths. Bruno was notorious for running out of steam. Lewis could go the distance easily. And Bruno, once caught had no survival skills. Lewis showed in a few fights he could take a punch. Unless it was the blockbusters Rahman and McCall hit him with but Bruno would have been KOed by them punches as well.

Bruno shit himself against Tyson, but at least Tyson had to knock him out, Wlad simply fainted against the lesser Brewster, I think we can say Wlad is the guy who handles the pressure worse, at least Bruno puts up a fight in losing efforts.
