In a contest to set an alternate in the 'The Jose Sulaiman World Invitational' welterweight tournament, rising prospect Sergey Lubkovich (8-0, 6 KOs) took a major step up in class by winning a majority decision against veteran Karim Mayfield (21-5-1, 11 KOs).

There were five judges as part of the tournament, and not every score was announced. It was very confusing and even play by play veteran Steve Farhood was confused on what was going on with the scores. Among the scores were 98-91 for Lubkovich, 97-94 for Mayflied, 95-94 for Lubkovich.

Mayfield really made it tough from the start, fighting in an awkward manner and being aggressive. Mayfield was dictating the tempo, but neither boxer was landing anything of note.

It was a close and tight contest, all the way to the final bell. It was a very ugly fight, a lot of holding on the inside. Lubkovich lost a point for holding during the bout.

In the first quarterfinal bout of 'The Jose Sulaiman World Invitational' welterweight tournament, Paddy Gallagher (13-4-0, 8 KO’s) lost a ten round decision to Brad Solomon (28-1-0, 9 KO’s). There were scores of 97-93 for Solomon, 96-93 for Gallagher, 97-94 for Solomon, 95-94 and 95-94 for Solomon (five judges for the tournament).

In the first round, Solomon was controlling things and then got dropped literally in the closing seconds after a digging hook to the body. In the second round, Gallagher was landing some solid shots to shake Solomon up.

By third, Solomon began to make adjustments and the contest became a lot closer with both boxers have their moments as the contest played out.

In the second quarterfinal bout of 'The Jose Sulaiman World Invitational' welterweight tournament, Fredrick Lawson (27-1-0, 21 KO’s) won a very competitive fight, with a ten round unanimous decision over Baishanbo Nasiyiwula (13-2-1, 6 KO’s). The scores were 99-91, 98-94, 98-92, 97-93, 97-93 (there were five judges for the tournament).

In the third quarterfinal bout of 'The Jose Sulaiman World Invitational' welterweight tournament, Chris Van Heerden (26-2-1, 12 KO’s) won a solid ten round unanimous decision over Timo Schwarzkopf (18-2-0, 10 KO’s). The scores were 98-92 three times, and 97-93 twice (five judges used in the tournament).

Van Heerden controlled the action with few issue in the first six rounds, but then he was rocked pretty bad in the seventh. He was able to recover and got himself out of danger. Van Heered was shaken up again in the eight and once again was able to use his legs to move around until he recovered.

In the fourth quarterfinal bout of 'The Jose Sulaiman World Invitational' welterweight tournament, Olympic gold medal winner Felix Diaz (19-3-0, 9 KO’s), who is the tournament's number one seed, saw himself get knocked off by replacement Francisco Santana (27-6-1, 12 KO’s) - who won a ten round decision.

The scores were 95-95 for draw, 96-94, 98-92, 98-92, 98-92. (five judges used in the tournament).

Santana dominated much of the first round with activity, but Diaz came back in the second when he started putting his punches together.

Once Diaz found his groove, he was landing often with hard, accurate punches to the head and body of Santana. Santana was still applying a lot of pressure and pushing the pace and forcing Diaz to work very hard.

Santana really came on in the sixth round and appeared to stun Diaz, who did return fire with some good counters.

In the seventh round, Santana was really rocked but Diaz was unable to put him down with a flurry of shots. Santana was able to recover and made things very close with his pressure and constant activity in the remaining three rounds.

Aye wouldn't argue too hard with the wide scores in Santana's favour, he wanted it unlike Diaz who looked bored from the start
