Announced today. Will take place in USA.

Awful defence! Why's it in the US?

Strange one. Carmona lost 3 on the spin then beat some random and now he gets a title shot at home? Unless it's part of a show where one of the other champions are fighting with view to a unification?

This is why. Hearn is working closely with Arum. Building a US profile for Kal..

Utter shite fight. Its funny how he turned down the Edwards fight which was just as crap but at least we knew who he was for this. He ducked Inoue for this.
Re: Kal Yafai vs. David Carmona - 26 May 2018
It's not like Yafai has been fighting a murderer's row since winning the alphabet bet, but Carmona is particularly a putrid opponent for a title fight, given his recent losses and the fact that he lost badly to Narvaez five years ago and hasn't improved.

I'm struggling to think of a worse title defence. He lost 3 on the bounce, including a 2nd round ko to a 13-4 schmuck. Then gets a win over a 20-10-5 no hoper.

It's an easy exposure fight.. Fighting on ESPN and the US on the same card as a potential future opponent.. It's been done plenty of times, however I do agree, could have been a better opponent. How did this guy even get a ranking.tigermoth87 wrote: ↑19 Apr 2018, 21:44 I'm struggling to think of a worse title defence. He lost 3 on the bounce, including a 2nd round ko to a 13-4 schmuck. On paper it looks like Carmona has no chance but if you watch his fights he shows small flashes of excellence. If he comes on his A game and Yafai has a bad night, Carmona could win.

Ancajas vs. Sultan, Yafai vs. Carmona - ESPN Double on May 26
Two of the world’s most dynamic 115-pound talents — on a collision course to a potential title unification bout — will take center stage at the Save Mart Center on the first Top Rank on ESPN world championship card on ESPN+, Saturday, May 26 at 9:30 p.m. ET.
Filipino standout Jerwin ‘Pretty Boy’ Ancajas will defend the International Boxing Federation (IBF) junior bantamweight world title in the main event against countryman Jonas Sultan. It marks the first world title bout featuring two Filipino fighters in 93 years, when Pancho Villa defended the world flyweight title against Clever Sencio on May 2, 1925.
In the co-feature, Great Britain's Kal Yafai will make the third defense of his World Boxing Association (WBA) super flyweight title against David Carmona. Soon-to-be announced undercard bouts, including appearances by welterweight contender Jose Benavidez and Central Valley products Bryan Lua and Isidro Ochoa, will be shown on ESPN+ starting at 6:30 p.m. ET.

yafai was acting like a plank talking to edwards "look at my car outside" etc. Taking the Degale route to making himself popular.

If he is planning on having his next few fights in the US then it's not a bad way to act, that kind of arrogant bad boy act always seems to go down better over there than it does here.TheLeprechaun wrote: ↑30 Apr 2018, 18:00 yafai was acting like a plank talking to edwards "look at my car outside" etc. Taking the Degale route to making himself popular.

Yeh. Nothing wrong with building a name there. Looks like they're obviously using this card to set up a another card.. possible rematch in UK.. many options.keirw wrote: ↑30 Apr 2018, 19:27If he is planning on having his next few fights in the US then it's not a bad way to act, that kind of arrogant bad boy act always seems to go down better over there than it does here.TheLeprechaun wrote: ↑30 Apr 2018, 18:00 yafai was acting like a plank talking to edwards "look at my car outside" etc. Taking the Degale route to making himself popular.

I used to work across the street from this arena.
Very weird place to have this fight.

Fresno is a weird place.
I've often asked my missus if she wants to move there (high paying job v fairly cheap rent) and she's a firm NO even though there's loads of Thai/Lao people there.
I do have a couple of Thai exes there though so that could be a factor
